I dunno, I'm pretty damned happy with Steam, and the performance I get from the games I own; I'm not a framerate chaser, as long as the game is playable (I'm looking at you, Shadow of Mordor) at a decent rate.
I do like TBS over most action games, I'll admit, and my favorite games this year have been Torchlight II (notwithstanding), Pillars of Eternity, Age of Wonders 3, Pandora:First Contact, and Empire:Total War. I know they all weren't released this year.

Quoting: JuliusHave been playing this the last couple of days. The performance is very good indeed.OK you sold me. Buying!
It feels much more "old-school" than Legend of Grimrock, in the sense that you really have to do micro-micro management of the combat already at medium difficulty levels and that there are quite frustrating difficulty spikes with the boss enemies (but you can lower difficulty the in the menu).
And while it is relatively light on story, it's kind of tongue in cheek and has a dry humor to it :)
Feral about AMD driver support

There is a reason why I have always bought nVidia cards, and AMD/ATI's Linux "support," which is why I don't buy their cards, is still problematical. I remember when Painkiller came out, which worked for me the first day. ATI users had to wait about 5 weeks for a driver which would work. It should be said that the game developer did work with ATI to fix the problem, but still...
Linux is holding exactly where we thought it would in the Steam Hardware Survey

And, I might add, that, although Mac users are 3.64X the number of Linux users, 3.64% isn't exactly a huge number of Steam users either compared to Windows users.

Well! Some pithy comments here; I think that most are warranted. Yes, I realize that a raft of games will never, ever be ported to Linux. I have 500+ Linux games in my library  , and roughly 50% are pretty lousy (or great, but excessively difficult for my aging fingers and reflexes ;) ), but the other roughly 50% are terrific and playable :woot: (see above).
Feral and Aspyr seem pretty happy with the response and sales from Linux users, and so do a lot of indie developers. Yeah, there will always be gripers :><: about the miniscule Linux representation among Steam users, and the corresponding small amount of sales, but there are so many devs who are happy to put out Linux ports  (because, as Garry did say, it's the right thing to do) and the corresponding small number of sales  .
The Humble Bundles did prove that Linux users are hungry for games, and that fact, besides sales, should keep them pushing out games for our beloved platform. It's still a great time to be a Linux gamer, and I thank Gabe Newell (and Canonical, for pushing Linux gaming as hard as they have) for the current, well, bright state of affairs :woot: .

Vulcan:Nethack/Slash'Em  is also FOSS, and is in most repos, and the Steam version has been updated and improved, with better graphics :woot:. A few hundred :S: purchasers allowed the devs to throw themselves into the project, a Good Thing.

I'd be interested in actual sales figures for Steam Linux games, given the well-known Humble Bundle average amounts paid by OS, which consistently showed Linux users in the lead. I always figured that as a major impetus toward developers looking harder at Linux, leading to Steam for Linux.
We may be few, but we do buy a lot of games...

For an example of a FOSS game engine, check out Arx Liberatis, which uses the data files from Arx Fatalis (available from GOG.com, and works like a champ. You're very unlikely to see a version of OpenMW which doesn't use Bethesda's data files.
