Wednesday Madness, a quick look at some good Linux gaming deals

IMO the best deal on GOG right now is Renowned Explorers: International Society [External Link], 75% off (plus, the expansion More to Explore [External Link] is also on sale at 33% off).

I've only played it for an hour or so, but it's great so far.

The isometric typing adventure 'Epistory: Typing Chronicles' is now available DRM-free on GOG

Quoting: tijderI got this from Humble montly. The drm free version wasn't able to start up. I hope they support GOG version better then the humble bundle version...
That's just brilliant. So Humble do have a DRM-free build of the game but they just don't bother to sell it on their store [External Link]? Or is it just an error and you do really get a DRM-free build if you buy it there? Anyway, doesn't seem to matter that much if it doesn't work...

PS: I bought Epistory on GOG when it was released there and it worked flawlessly on my Arch box. Really good game, got me hooked until I finished it.

For some strange reason, I always assumed this game was turn-based. After realizing that it's real-time, I'm much more interested in it. :)

PS: Also available DRM-free at the Humble Store [External Link].

Little Invasion Tales, manage a growing community under attack from little cartoon aliens, confirmed for Linux
10 Sep 2016 at 10:35 am UTC

Quoting: liamdaweMy bad, I checked their official site, Steam and our site for an article on it so I thought that would have been enough.
Sadly, every day more and more devs and publishers only care to put the Steam widget on their games' official pages. I image they later complain about the lack of sales on other stores... :\

So yeah, in the future please at least check Humble and GOG when researching Linux availability. (Especially the latter, as they actively collaborate with GoL in the form of game keys, don't they?)

PS: Little Invasion Tales looks cool and cute, by the way. :)

It's from the same developer who made 'Redshirt', which is not available for Linux.

Linux gaming doesn't start and end on Steam, my friend.

Quoting: GuestI can confirm that many recent Unity games have issues on my system: crashes at startup or no working sound. Some also have no text (missing font?). And none of the devs I reported it to have fixed anything (whatever the reason is… but the result is I can’t play their games and had to have them refunded.)
OpenGL Core is broken in most versions of Unity 5. In my experience, running the games with -force-opengl, which forces OpenGL 2 (which Unity 4 uses on Linux), will usually enable you to run them. I haven't experienced crashes on Nvidia graphics, but I've experienced all sorts of other strange behaviors, like the screen being filled with mostly a single color or extreme flickering.
Dunno if it's the same bug or not, but I've been recently experiencing core dumps with Unity 5 games. It is apparently due to a bug in the engine that can't get PulseAudio to start properly. Manually starting it myself usually fixes the problem:

$ pulseaudio -k
$ pulseaudio -D

(The first line kills any PulseAudio instance that might be already running, and the second line just starts a new PulseAudio daemon)

Quoting: HadBabits2) So does that mean you download directly from the site?
Quoting: scaineSorry for the confused comment - you're exactly correct, that's exactly what I was getting at, HadBabits. Do these sales count as "Linux" and where is the DRM-free download from. Thanks!
I don't know about the nature of their Steam keys, but I can confirm the DRM-free games can be downloaded directly from your account page in GamesRepublic.

Excellent choice of games! I think I'll back a couple of them.

Also, I love the new "quick fact" bullet points, they provide essential information at a glance, in a far more efficient way than before. We should have implemented a long time ago... :P

Quoting: tuubiThe game doesn't seem to recognize my Logitech gamepad though. Anyone else having problems with gamepad support?
I only tested it with my XBOX-like gamepad clone + xboxdrv, and worked like a charm for me. You should ask Kevin about it, but I guess you'd better wait for Haque's Kickstarter to end! :P

PS: Thanks for your kind words, everyone. ^_^
