Rise of Industry, a strategic tycoon game is now out in Early Access
13 Feb 2018 at 8:48 pm UTC

Game is not really worth $25 after sale IMHO, not in this stage.

1. The tech tree is terrible and offers a little way of specialization. Yeah, you can specialize in "industry" and so on, but since a lot of recipes need products from other parts (i.e., to make orange juice, you need carton boxes, to make carton boxes, you have to have full fledged lumber industry). And since you can't buy product from town factories, this significantly limit the number of recipes and factories you can produce. I.e., going for food industry with the idea, that one will build a few farms and then create higher-level product, is futile, because you just don't have tech to make those recipes. And then, you can't even sell them in towns due to weird way how town demand is made.

2. Town factories are weird. They ignore any teching and do what they want. Soon, towns are covered by their town factories. Why player needs to be there anyway?

3. No way to check how much money something brings. I want to see how much this product X makes for me after all the manufacturing process. I can't see that. I want to see how much does factory X make. I can't see that either.

Graphics is good, game runs smoothly and a lot of ideas are good. So its mostly problem with UI and design. The game looks like hybrid between industry giant and capitalism. But I feel it needs to look how both games handled all these problems to understand why it worked in those games. Or even look at Trade Empires, which had very clear way of showing demand and all these things. Seriously, I hope someone will make a bit more involved remake of Trade Empires, maybe with an actual empires in the background. Would be fun to see that Egyptians are winning because this guy is making the weapon industry...

Dawn of War III likely to get no more major updates as it hasn't sold well

Yeah, good old conspiracy theories about magazines getting paid for producing free advertising.
Bullshit.

Its not a conspiracy theory, its a fact. Many people talked about it. If journalist won't write positive review, he might no longer get the pre-release copy to review. Which means that he might not be the first or one of the first to review it (since he will have to review it after release), which means that people waiting for said game will not buy that magazine for that review.

Who would thought that removing RTS mechanics and adding MOBA mechanics to RTS game makes shitty RTS?

Who would imagine that players like base building and resource management? Well, not devs...

In fact, Relic didn't created a good (traditional) RTS for some years already. Thats why choosing them for AoE4 is a weird thing. Hopefully they won't try to innovate. Because when they innovate, they produce a shitty thing.

Real-time combat is not strange, is quite standard given BG and so, NW and so, Tyranny and plethora of other games. Real-time with pause (which is in some TB-like RTS as well) makes fights much faster, while not taking much from depth.

Killing goblin on high level would take a lot of time since combat needs to switch to TB. Doing the same in RT with pause takes almost no time, since you can just run to the goblin and kill him in RT. No need to initialize special combat. This makes the whole experience more unified.

Problem with PoE is retarded stats and no exps with number of boring enemies (at least at start, shades are everywhere), multitude of stun/charm enemies and slow down in combat. This significantly reduce your possibilities and playstyles, without getting anything in reward.

They learned a lot from it and tried to make it better in Tyranny, which while is an improvement, it far from perfect (or even what I would call "good", it is serviceable, Tyranny have more problem with imbalance in forced encounters where you can have serious difficulty spikes, and inability to save at certain points).

They just have problem creating a good RPG system.

Quoting: KelsSo are the base games for PoE, CK II and Stellaris worth it? I haven't got a lot of budget for DLC so if I decide to get this (I haven't got any of those games right now) I'll be sticking with the basics for the foreseeable future.
You can have fun with CKII for a while, but currently you really need to have at least several DLCs. But I haven't played CK for a while, so maybe it is different from Stellaris and EU, where without DLCs, it is quite bland. Stellaris is currently quite bland, I would wait till they release Cherryh update, maybe it will finally be better? But some changes are really stupid.

As for PoE, I would say no. PoE sucks. It is not very RPGish. You don't have freedom. Everything is locked down.

Magicka is a blast though! Easily one of the most entertaining co-op games I've played.
Magicka 1 is blast. Magicka 2, is, well, uh... something is missing there.

It would be good if it was strategy, like Settlers, Cultures and so on. It takes too much time (unless you collaborate) to do these things yourself:/

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
"Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!"
Quoth the Raven "Nevermore I am buying game that is just 'supposed' to come to linux. Next time I will wait for full release. And sale."

It´s supposed to be really good though.
Its not. It mediocre game that thinks too much about itself. It is trying to be funny in a smug way, it has poor story, world building and dialogues. It is also quite linear game in similar way like Gothic (all enemies are preset and as even small level difference is quite significant for combat, a lot of areas are basically locked down).

The only + on this game is its combat system, which is great, dynamic and use a lot of skill combos by utilizing environment: oil can be lit on fire, pool of water or wet enemies can be frozen or are more conductive for lightning. Poison or poisonous gas is also explosive. Since you have a wide array of skill or items that can place all these things, you have quite a big freedom how to combat enemies and funnel AI into chokepoint using fire surface (or extinguish enemy fire with rain spell) and so on.

So it depends on why you play RPGs, if for their combat, you will like it. If for freedom, story and dialogues, its meh.

Also, this game tends to not explain any character building to you or all of its mechanics. Crafting is also a bit weird and some weapons or weapon combinations are inherently bad because you can't craft them and they are rare in loot or shops.
