Hearthlands Is Exactly The Type Of City-builder A Lazy Sunday Needs For Linux Gamers
23 Aug 2015 at 4:33 pm UTC

It definitely is a City Bilders style game. But it adds some new interesting aspects. There are goblin villages, trolls, ghost mines that all interact with you on your local map. On the larger map there is a dragon, an evil empire and other kingdoms that all either want your gold or want you to support them in some way. It really feels like a living world that responds to your economy. It's a great game and only getting better!

SteamOS/Linux Version Of Gauntlet Cancelled
24 Jul 2015 at 9:50 pm UTC

I think it's interesting that linux users say "don't preorder!" when really, preorder numbers may have had an impact on their decision to continue with the development.

Oh well, I played it on Windows it was actually pretty awesome (I love local coop) but I do hope that eventually (maybe if SteamOS hits it off) they'll decide to come back to a linux version. They had to have started at least some work on it...

LEGO Minifigures Online Released For Linux, Some Thoughts

I don't know if you've played other lego games but they are all really easy. It's more about playing the world than providing a challenge. This actually ends up being what kids want (I've found). Challenging games are for older kids who won't even be interested in a LEGO game.

GOL Cast: Crawling In The Mud In Verdun

Take away the WW1 setting and I'd still love this game for the awesome squad system (proximity buffs, squad-only voice chat, squad-leveling, specializations). I've always wanted a WW1 shooter but I've always wanted a squad-oriented shooter more. Verdun has both!

ARK: Survival Evolved, A Beautiful Unreal Engine Survival Game Is Heading Our Way

The dinosaur mounts are so cool! Made me wish this game was all about Dinotopia (take away some of the advanced guns and this game could pull it off).

Savage Lands Early Access Survival Game Adds Linux Support, I Take A Look

The game doesn't look ugly to me. The water is beautiful, the winter effects are really well done and realistic. You're supposed to find one of the abandoned villages, gather supplies and prepare to leave the starting lands. Out in the world there are more fantasy creatures to run into.

It's actually a really well done survival game that isn't as aimless or genre-less as Rust. The flint is in the rocks, you have to build a hammer and mine for it. If you don't want to do that though there is flint (and other starting resources) strewn about the beaches. Just walk up and down the beaches and you'll get more goods than you need.

I would suggest just reading one of the starting guides on Steam and then giving it another go, it's really an awesome game!

Multiplayer is a blast too!

Also runs great for me on a GTX 560 Ti - 448

Interstellar Marines FPS Big Update Due This Month, New Online Modes
16 Apr 2015 at 7:19 pm UTC

Quoting: HadBabitsInterstellar Marines has potential, but the title reflects the games lack of imagination and identity. I'm not saying it has to have in depth lore and story, but they could at least add a bit more personality. Look at TF2, Fistful of Frags, or Chivalry. Admittedly, TF2 has some story going on in the background, but in the game there's no story in any of these, but they each have there own look and feel. This game in comparison looks like they were trying to emulate Halo's ODST marines and ran out of ideas after that :/ But hopefully they'll surprise me before the full release!
They're going for Hard Sci-Fi. The game is beautiful, the immersion is really great (esp. the helmet), the robots are creepy and quite fun in the Co-Op mode and the plans for hell week and the whole back story that you are training to be an interstellar marine. Seriously, I see more story and imagination in this game than all of the games you listed combined.

Also, this game has been in development for years and back in the day they had some really sweet mutant shark renders so hopefully they get those in the game soon too!

Steam Hardware Survey For March 2015

Using linux as my main gaming platform again for a couple months now with no survey and then the other day, I decided to give a few games a go through steam on Wine and literally the first time I opened Steam on Wine, I get the survey! What are the chances!

It got me thinking, I noticed there were some references to Wine in the results they were collecting. They should have a separate OS listing for Wine. It'd be interesting to see how many Windows results are actually OSX or Linux users running Steam through Wine.
