I'm using it for some in game automation.. I can't stand doing repetitive actions over and over, like moving water one molecule at a time from one glass to another.. I'll let the computer do it much faster than I can :P

Quoting: TkelethI made a very fast click macro for one of my mouse buttons, and after using it to kill a few guys, the yellow dudes become invincible. lol 10/10 would review on steamI've been working on something like this with a program called autokey [External Link]. It's GPL-3.0 and is written in Python 3 so very easy to get started.

Quoting: lucifertdarkThat's what I like about the ultralight. It's so easy to fly even I can do it.Quoting: Mountain ManDefinitely plane crash not program crash, that's why I won't be buying this one, I spent hours & hours poring over the manual, familiarising myself with the controls only to crash the plane, so I'm not going to be a pilot.Quoting: lucifertdarkI had one of the older versions before Steam was a thing, never could get past crashing on take-off so I'll probably give this a miss & NPC passengers around the world heave a sigh of relief.Do you mean a program crash, or you would crash the airplane?
If it's the latter, I'll say again, X-Plane is not an arcade game, it is a flight simulator intended for real-world pilots and flight simulator enthusiasts who enjoy a realistic experience. The software now includes some basic tutorials for "newbies", but my advice has always been that the real X-Plane manual is a pilot training handbook and operating handbook specific to the aircraft you want to fly. Basically, you're going to have to spend some time learning to fly a real airplane in order to get the most out of X-Plane.

Mine was an issue with another game.. I'll have a chance to look at it when I get home later.. hopefully it's resolved or just reselecting the beta..
It wasn't actually downloaded on that computer, I just noticed in my library that there was a message that it was no longer compatible.

Quoting: lucifertdarkI found out what it was in the end, & it's not a major problem, it's a cockup by Croteam, the Serious Sam BFE DLC was added as a separate item in the library & they've attempted to change it back to a proper DLC & it's removed it entirely from my library, not a major problem as I said, they'll get it fixed eventually.Thank you, sir. Looks like it's affecting several titles.

Almost forgot to post this here after I saw Liam's post:
Free Install of AppGameKit for Raspberry Pi 1,2,3 and zero (presumably zero w as well)
I tried to find any gotchas or horrible parts of the agreement and did't notice anything.. seems legit. I know it's always up on Steam.
If you don't have a pi and would really like to try this let me know, their sales forecasts seem to be off in my area and are always available.
I've never tried AGK; I'm currently working on a side project in Godot... not as easy as I originally thought
I didn't see this posted anywhere else, and couldn't even navigate to it on their page.. had to always get back through Google.
I have a young cousin who wants to learn to code and what I want to know is the level of support I'd have to provide.. plus I don't want them to get frustrated and quit.

Yeah, I've seen where some people have worked on planes for over a year. Idk why they don't use GitHub for version control/modifications from forks.. it seems like version control is "save as _v1, _v2..." The little one I fly around DFW in is amazing - I plan on going back to the dev who built it and leaving a tip on his pp page, it's a nice build.

Quoting: GuestI had completely forgot that was an audio thing. I've noticed that Rising World uses it, I think.. it has threads allocated to it. But its also a Java game so it has a thread for all the things.Quoting: ShmerlUsing some modern codec like Opus, allows efficient audio decoding. It's not an issue really, and surely not a reason to use uncompressed audio. They are changing to FMOD:

However I don't think all default planes have been switched yet and the documentation is still being put together for 3rd parties to use.

good catch, surely there is a reason. Maybe to keep build times down during beta with so many platforms and they haven't switched over or had a chance to test it. I want to check at some point how much space is used for the wavs. It still doesn't hold a candle to the disc space required for Hitman (70GB) or DiRT Rally (43 GB). I'm a little scared to do so.. but I really want to nuke the Windows branches they ship with those. Thanks for reminding me. I remember seeing those folders and thinking, tF?
To the point re: the community, here's a funny one I found about the sound (player, bc). The top post may or may not answer your question but the feedback that guy gives is awesome. Also, if compressed, wouldn't it eat more cycles to play the audio? Some people were struggling to get above 30fps.. it may be for players on ChromeOS :p

PS - did anyone notice the new music you received for Hitman? I'm not familiar with how Steam distributes music.. will they delete a random game if I copy to a USB for the car? Oh wait.. Not going to get into it tonight, but I have a random game missing too *poof* no longer mine. I better see an email apology saying it was a bad and early April Fools joke, explanation that their entire QC dept up and quit, or something. Reddit / the windows side is freaking out too b/c it's not everyone.

Ok.. starting countdown. I had to post on X-Plane as I've been doing the beta
any bets on sumo.. i have a good feeling.. (brb!)
Edit: if you choose answer c.. it will run, but not in 2160p, and will lock all but one core and all but one hyper-thread **twice** on the main menu... you were correct! This is where Linus jumps in and writes the email for you :)
I about had to switch tty. Now I feel like a jerk saying to just drop down to another workspace. Right, no. It locked hard. Like were talking a 40? car err threat pileup. It wasn't pretty. I realized that my mouse was still active and was able to drop the resolution down, get a terminal and kill it.
Did it die gracefully you ask? No. Took down Steam like a pile of toothpicks. Someone convince me this is worth messing with. Supposed to be a relaxing game, no gdb required :(
The overlay was going crazy, so I'm going to recompile/update sc (running the git version) so I have the new patches, then disable the overlay and try again. One more core dump and it's going straight to /dev/null.

Thanks for covering this, Liam -- I think a couple of us have had the beta for a while now but it's a standalone game. I'll have to look through my email but I think the developer said that the Steam version was a different build, which makes sense if they have to meet whatever outdated libraries the Steam run time is using vs. what Arch is shipping ATM.
My one-liner review: Kick everything up to turbo on your CPU and GPU. Required should be i7, 1070/80 even if they say lower. will get you around 50ish max fps on 1920x1080p. 2160p didn't seem to improve much so i just run the 1080p.
This is movie quality graphics and FAA quality physics. Someone told me the last part who would know and I didn't believe them until I played. It was like being a kid again discovering MS Flight Sim for the first time... I digress and went over one line :| sorry
If you feel like your Linux life is not complete without a realistic flight sim.. give yourself about 40Gb (I'm at 32 on this folder) of space. I noticed a few frames drop moving it onto a second Nvme drive.. if that gives any indication as the the level of buffers and throughput this requires. With that said, for my settings, it's always go big or .. well you get it. I don't want a $60 game only to run at half throttle (pun intended :p) So my 50fps is at everything maxed out, I'm sure it could be pushed higher but I can't see any tearing or stuttering.
http://developer.x-plane.com/ [External Link] The dev blog and news - good source of information and has other links from there. I laughed just now when I read the latest title.. they definitely have a sense of humor too.
http://forums.x-plane.org [External Link] This is the one you really want to sign up for. The tutorials are from pilots or others who way further into how everything comes together than the in game tutorial. If the in game one is say a 6/10, the forums are 10/10. Also, once you've signed in you can load up on as many free planes as you like. (my favorite for buzzing my metro area is one of the ultralights..) I do recommend using the rating system as a sanity check - they are very picky so if you find a highly rated one you know it's good.
***If it doesn't launch the first time, run objdump -p $GAME.sh | grep -i need and see if you recognize any missing libraries. If you're comfortable with running ldd, run that as well, just and make sure everything on the left points to a library on the right, indicating the binary is linked. Don't worry if you see linux-vdso.so.1 at the top not linked, I forget why but some kernels this isn't linked for me, I think something about relocatable memory? Anyways, check that out if it doesn't launch, remedy the missing libraries in your $PATH and give it another go.

Quoting: Mountain ManI'm not sure what you mean by "ultralight planes", but there is a selection of general aviation aircraft, including the legendary Cessna 172 which is small and easy to fly. But this isn't a video game, it's a flight simulator, so you have to know something about real aircraft operation to get the most out of it. To that end, X-Plane 11 does, for the first time in the series, include some basic flying tutorials. They actually mean ultralight. These guys are flight fanatics. They had an email tutorial going too where we got weekly, I think, emails with various tips and tricks. So a few sites to bookmark if you own this or would like to explore the community before investing..

I'm also on Arch and agree; not a chance I'm downgrading the system because the game should have spent longer in beta.
That's like the gas station telling me to sell my car for one with lower fuel requirements if i say my car runs like crap using their premium blend.. :|

Quoting: PozzuoliFor sure. I haven't gone through my normal pre-flight checklist :) e.g. checking the launcher script.. making sure all the libraries are linked.. but I'll get something out there within the hour so they have a better idea.Quoting: saildataI actually have it ready to go tonight as well.Nice one! I did send them the log, but I don't think it was helpful (as per that thread). They suggested downgrading my Nvidia drivers, but that's not easy in Arch. Perhaps you could comment over in the Steam thread [External Link], so they know if affects more people? Cheers.

I was curious today about why the store would say that a game was overwhelmingly positive while https://steamdb.info [External Link] would show something like 60%, which I would call "mixed" on their scale. Especially if the ratings are all 5's and 1's.. kinda the definition of "mixed". I love the area of recommendation engines, work with them a lot in my job, and spent way too much time in grad school studying the various theories and formulations on the subject.
However, I don't think that Valve is dumb re: marking or sales, which would mean it's not by accident. I would bet that in 100 lines of Python or less you could outperform their current model. (Negative, mixed, positive, etc.)
So I tested my theory that they are inflating the overall summary by scoring a few with IBM's Watson public API [External Link] specifically looking at the review sentiment correlation to Steam's rating for five different reviews for one game. Sorry for anyone who cries foul stats.. this was a lunch break exercise :)
I am now more certain than not that they are doing something along the lines of ignoring/throwing out negative phrases/chunks in a review and just scoring the strength of any positive tokens they can find. Sound biased? Um.. yeah. I agree.
Also, I want to note that the community site noted above was 5/5 in my testing (relative strength.. e.g. were they close enough for the summary to make sense). For example, one I tested showed an overarching theme of fear and anger, (e.g. not "positive") but was a "positive review". Just in case -- I have absolutely zero affiliation with the site --
TLDR: take the Steam ratings with a grain of BS. The steamdb.info rating seems to be a much more accurate model, given the small sample tested and my observations quite a while.. and obviously a good mix of trusted community curated reviews is the golden standard.

Quoting: AtexAlso adding to the not being able to see that you are in game issue is that the bug most likely causes faulty hour tracking. I bought the game some time ago and was annoyed by some of the bugs it had in common with insurgency which weren't fixed for ages and I asked for a refund but I couldn't get it because steam support said my playtime was 10+ hours while my profile was saying 2 minutes and my actual playtime was around 90 minutes (probably had added playtime on their side until I shut down my computer/steam).Steam seems to round using a different numeric system for a lot of things...
This left me with a pretty bad image of NWI. Not sure if they have still even fixed the issue.
