Faster Zombies to Steam Deck: The History of Valve and Linux Gaming

Proton is great and will surely help Steam Deck from a shorter time perspective, but I really hope that this won't lead to no new native ports of AAA games. Native ports are (almost) always better, at least in my opinion.
Looks like Splitgate will be the next 'big thing' FPS supported on Linux

Regarding glitches, I have found only one: Water seems to have some weird memory corruption-like artifacts. I have already reported this on the game Discord.

Quoting: ripper81358I have tried the native linuxversion (beta) for a few days now. The game runs very well on my end. However at least on my system running an AMD Radeon RX 6700xt with the latest stable version of Mesa i encountered some technical bugs.I had exactly the same first two issues as you. However, in my case, it got fixed when clicking the reset to default settings button. But I still ended up setting the fullscreen mode to windowed fullscreen, because this works better for all games on my system, especially when alt + tabbing between the game and other windows.
1. The screenresolution setting is not working showing just an empty box with nothing to select.
2. Resolutionscaling was set to 50% at the first launch so i had to adjust it to 100% manually to get the rendering up to the native resolution of my screen.
3. Vsync does not work, at least not for my 1080p@144Hz display. Activating Vsync instantly cuts my FPS down to 60 while at the same time gives me bad screentearing. I ended up using the framelimiter option instead.
Other than that the game runs flawless on X11 and Wayland with very high performance and no visible graphical glitches.

Wolfenstein - Blade of Agony gets another big update in the 3.1 release

edit: This seems to be a changelog of the censored parts:

There was a concern on how some elements of WWII were shown in the game, especially from German news and gaming websites. It's a tough subject, especially with certain German laws and so they made steps to adjust parts of the game and this 3.1 release is the result of that. That's a shame. I hope it will still be possible to re-enable the censored parts.
edit: This seems to be a changelog of the censored parts:
- The "concentration camp" term is changed to a "prison camp" (only the term, not the map itself)
- All references to jewish prisoners in the former camp have been removed
- The historical correct but anti-semitic content in the World Exhibition in Paris has completely been replaced
- Every anti-semitic Nazi advertisement posters and drawings have been replaced
- The terms "holocaust" and "Final Solution" have been replaced

The best Linux distros for gaming in 2021

One of them is that the steam package is not autosynced from Debian because of custom Ubuntu changes. So, every time there is a new Ubuntu release, someone has to update this package manually (or keep it outdated). For example, in Ubuntu 20.10, the package is still on version 1.0.0.61-2 instead of the latest 1.0.0.68. This outdated version has multiple issues, for example missing dependency on bubblewrap (that, as far as I know, is required by Pressure Vessel to work properly) and xdg-desktop-portal (that is used by Proton since 5.13 to be able to open web URLs when running in a Pressure Vessel container). Or, for example, outdated udev rules missing some new devices. etc.
Other problem with the steam package is that because of how SRU [External Link]s are handled in Ubuntu, the package is usually only updated when a new Ubuntu release is out and updates are not backported into older Ubuntu releases (including LTS). Because SRUs for "feature updates" are usually not accepted in Ubuntu, only for bugfixes and minor updates (patches). Bigger updates or modified dependencies are also usually not accepted for SRUs. In other words, it's unlikely that, for example, the missing bubblewrap/xdg-desktop-portal steam package dependencies will be added in current Ubuntu releases, although they break Proton.

Quoting: EikeThis is the opposite I'm recommending everybody in the Steam forums (for any distribution). Because the distribution makers have the same package and more knowledge of their distribution than the user or even Valve. Is this claim based on anything?I was helping with the steam package update for Ubuntu 20.04. There are multiple problems with this package:

Just make sure to install Steam on Ubuntu from Valve website [External Link] and not distribution repository. The distro one is outdated and problematic, even on 20.10. It will hopefully be in a better shape in 22.04.

Quoting: fagnerlnIt's nice those improvements, but in my PC any Proton that uses pressure vessel (like 5.13) don't work in any game. It's sad.How did you install Steam? Ubuntu repository package?
