Expanded AMD HDMI 2.1 support is coming to Linux
4 May 2026 at 6:10 pm UTC Likes: 1

Was going to pull the trigger on a 5070ti today due to a special offer but now I will wait to see how this develops as I am in no immediate rush. I need another GPU for my AM4 machine but I want the full HDMI 2.1 Support. If AMD have finally come through then I will reconsider and get a 9070xt instead.

Will keep an eye on this.

The new Steam Controller from Valve is out now - some early thoughts

Finally managed to order after 40 mins. I literally tried to order at 6pm on the dot.

Valve need to come up with a better solution for when the Steam Machine goes live as the servers were hammered the second the buy now button went live. In the end I just decided to spam the buy now button.

Funny as it was almost as difficult to log in here as it was to place my order for a steam controller.

Netflix want to acquire Warner Bros. but they have to fight off Paramount

Really hope government and regulators put a stop to this.

This acquisition will kill Hollywood along with Cinema's and Physical media. The end result will be significant price increases and removal of choice.

Thankfully I already have a large physical media collection because if this acquisition goes through then a lot of classics are going to rewritten or disappear entirely.

I just pulled the trigger last week on the back of this news and spent £2k on a full new build before all hardware prices inevitably skyrocket. I managed to get a corsair 32GB (2X16) DDR5 CL30 kit for £200. This same kit was only £100 a week or so earlier and is now retailing for £389 as of this evening.

That reminds me, I need to update my system info. The system specs I built are below for those that are interested.

HVN HS 420 case
Artic Freezer 3 420 AIO with a set of Be Quiet Case fans.
9950X3D
ASUS Hero X870E
Corsair 32GB Ram kit.

AMD FSR Redstone arrives December 10 with a teaser

I am honestly not happy with AMD.

I own a 7900xtx and this news that FSR4 does not support 7000 series cards and the lack of HDMI 2.1 support is just yet another slap in the face. This is a great gaming card but the lack of support from AMD is beginning frustrate me.

It is such a shame because I really enjoy my gaming experience with this GPU but the lack of HDMI 2.1 support and now this has forced me to re evaluate whether I should go back to using a NVIDIA card.

Europa Universalis V from Paradox will only support Windows, no Linux or macOS this time

To be honest I am actually ok with it now that proton is well established.

As mentioned above by others, Linux runs practically any game through proton. The only issue now that needs addressing is the Anti-cheat DRM.

I suspect when Linux adoption passes the 10% mark we should start to see native Linux ports again. Lets get the Market-share up first. With W10 being killed of by MS we now have a good opportunity to grow.

Yes, I want native ports but I am happy with Proton as things stand.

I would not get too hyped for this as PDX are currently on a free fall. I have already abandoned Cities Skylines 2 as a write off. I do hope the fans of this series get what they asked for because us Cities fans got well and truly kicked in the teeth by CO and PDX. I will check out EU5 after 6-12 months post release but Its not really my cup of tea but I am willing to try it on a free weekend or a demo and go from there. If I enjoy it then I may pick the game up then.

I do own Stellaris, Surviving Mars, Cities Skylines 1,2 and Prison Architect. My next title from PDX would likely be Prison Architect 2 if the game is playable, polished and not stripped down to the bone for future DLC. If PDX don't deliver on this title then I am done with them for good.

I do hope this pans out well for the fans though, However I would not hold my breath.

As Epic Games continue ignoring Linux / Steam Deck for Fortnite they're putting it on Windows Arm

Would NOT use Epic even if they offered me a million quid.

Even if Epic games decided to fully support linux and offer 100's of free games I would still NOT use their service. Would never want to support such a toxic company and this article just proves my point. They would rather support a non existent platform out of spite just to stick it to Linux users.

I hope Valve are watching closely with Microsoft working towards an Xbox Handheld

Microsoft's strategy has indeed changed, They are pushing the "you will own nothing" subscription model and thus no longer care about hardware lock in as they want you to have access to their platform wherever you are at any time of the day.

From my understanding it would appear that MS has put out a contract to an OEM (Asus) to develop a handheld for them for release in the near future. This would be a similar approach to what valve did with steam machines. They are also reported to be developing their own handheld for release at a future date alongside a new console.

Its likely that this handheld will be a open platform but just more optimised and locked down compared to windows desktop. Valve has just too big a stranglehold on the market for MS to disrupt it with a single handheld. I would expect MS new handheld to have access via App or side load for the likes of Steam, EA, Ubisoft etc to be accessible on said device and in turn Microsoft will give access to Gamepass and Microsoft store on Steam and other platforms.

Sure I could be totally wrong on this but I am confident that this will be the situation from MS moving forward judging by their current behaviour with opening up their games catalogue.

As Linux users and gamers we need to be vigilant because MS will take the opportunity to abuse their position if given the chance but either way we will find out soon enough.

NOTE. Just my opinion and nothing should be taken as facts.

EA just open sourced Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Renegade and Generals

What on earth is EA smoking? I just slapped myself in the face to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

I welcome this news and would happily reward EA by purchasing a remaster of the remaining C&C titles. I look forward to see what the community comes up with. The future of the C&C franchise now appears to looks very bright.

I am still sceptical of EA. Surly they didn't just do this just to be kind? There must be money involved somewhere.

Has EA turned a new leaf? If so then I too would also like to see the Road Rash franchise revived.
