Trying to explain this to my family is going to be fun. I get labelled a conspiracy theorist enough as it is.

I am going to nuke my only windows 11 install from my laptop.

According to UK Media, the UK Watchdog is now investigating this as a potential security threat.

I have removed the game from my wish list as will not support a studio who refuses to keep to their promises.

I have noticed a lot of publishers drop support for Linux and mac since the rise of Valves Proton (PDX as prime example). As much as I love what Proton has done for Linux gaming, I am now getting worried with the big decline in official Linux support through native builds.

I think the Linux gaming community needs to make a push for official support using Proton as an option. I don't like relying on Proton simply because the publisher can simply wash their hands and claim no support was guaranteed unless on windows. I have no problem using Proton but I want official support should a problem arise.

EA SPORTS WRC is adding EA anticheat, breaking another game on Steam Deck / Linux

So another one bites the dust.

This is why I don't buy live service and multiplayer games, Especially from the likes of EA and Ubisoft.

I am glad I have enough great titles to get me through the imminent games industry crash.

Manjaro 24.0 released with KDE Plasma 6, GNOME 46, Linux kernel 6.9
15 May 2024 at 5:48 pm UTC

After breaking my desktop install yesterday I decided to Update my laptop install to plasma 6 using the TTY method as described in the tutorial section on Manjaro website.(Search for (HOW TO) Install Updates from TTY) for instructions. Its located in the tutorials section.

Update went without a hitch.

Ghost of Tsushima single-player only on Steam Deck due to PlayStation Network features

With Sony's recent behaviour their entire library is now barred from my shopping cart.

If they revoke the PSN requirement and lift the ban affecting 180 countries for all thier games then I will be happy to reconsider doing business but until that happens they are on the ban list for all PC and PS5 purchases. I will not tolerate bullying tactics from any corporation.

This update really did give me a headache. Last night I saw an update available so opened terminal and initiated. 30 mins later the update gave me a black screen and completely destroyed my install. Despite my best efforts I was unable to recover my install. I had no backup solution so will now need to look into this going forward. I had to basically dump my home folder to another partition to recover my data.

I have updates break things but NEVER had an update nuke an entire install before and the devs on the manjaro forums were not polite to those who complained. It was suggested to read the forums and use TTY to update on every update, REALLY Manjaro!.

I have finally updated to plasma 6 but have found it to be causing system instability and its defiantly unstable by comparison and despite being a manjaro user for over 5 years.

After this experience I am now considering other distros.

EA want to put adverts in your video games to squeeze you for every penny

I am done with this nonsense.

After the last week or so with Sony, Micosoft, Ubisoft and now EA playing shenanigans I have purged my wishlist of all games from these clowns. To summarise this last week,

Sony and their PSN requirement and then banning and removing 180 countries from access to their titles on steam.

Microsoft buying up and then shutting studios, not to mention Gamepass which has caused significant financial damage to numerous studios.

Ubisoft killing games to force players to upgrade and pay again for the next instalment. AKA The Crew.

And now EA want to shove adverts down our throats.

I am Done and voting with my wallet. I will now support the indies who actually care about what they create and put out.

I am convinced at this point that a major crash within the games industry is just around the corner.

NVIDIA switching to open kernel modules by default in future driver update for Turing+

Correct me if I am wrong but does this mean that Nvidia will officially be moving to open drivers for all future cards?

If so what about HDMI 2.1 support? Because AMD recently confirmed that the HDMI forum will NOT licence out 2.1 support via the AMD open driver. I don't want to spend out for a monitor when my £2.5k QN95A TV supports VRR 120Hz 4k along with my £1k 7900xtx.

I am just curious because I cannot use Freesync, VRR due to AMD not supporting HDMI 2.1 via the open driver.

I may just switch back to Nvidia with the launch of the 5000 series of cards if this is the case and sell my 7900xtx.

HELLDIVERS 2 sees over 130K bad reviews on Steam as Sony double down
5 May 2024 at 9:46 am UTC Likes: 4

I have been reviewing my purchasing habits as I have been burned a few times just recently. I have realised that I have become too comfortable buying digital games to then get screwed over by the publisher because they decide to change the terms and conditions after purchase and after the 2 hour refund window has passed.

Recent examples,

Requiring 3rd party accounts (HD2)
DRM and Anti-cheat (EA)
Dropping Steam Workshop support for propriety solutions (PDX)
Games getting outright deleted from existence.(Ubi)

Luckily I hadn't yet purchased HD2 so I have now removed this from my wish list. I am now evaluating whether to continue PC gaming after being on the platform for over 30 years as I am just getting fed up with being treated like an ATM.

I have just acquired an Xbox 360 to take a break from steam for a while and revisit some old classics before the 360 Store is shut down.

The big hit medieval strategy game Manor Lords works well on Linux

If anyone likes Settlers 2 and 3 then you will like this game. Population and resource management is very important and each decision can have serious consequences. The game has a overall blend of say 85% city building and 15% combat warfare (total war like) but very basic by comparison.

The game is in early access though so bear that in mind. There is no Linux support but steam proton works fine. Would definitely recommend if you enjoy these types of games. I used to love playing settlers 2 back in the day.
