AMD Radeon RX 6600 launches today aimed at high-refresh rates and 1080p

I would just like to say the best of luck to anyone trying to get a new GPU as I know how difficult it has been to replace my GTX 1070.

I only just recently got a 6800xt for £1100 so around £400 to £500 above MSRP:sad:. I will say however that I am extremely happy with my new GPU and highly recommend getting one of these cards if the price is acceptable for your circumstances. Don't expect GPU prices to stabilise until 2023 and with Xmas on the horizon its only going to get worse. If you need a new GPU now then get one if you can.

Note to buyers that HDMI 2.1 features are not supported on Linux on AMD GPU's E.G FSR, FREESYNC so you must use HDMI 2.0 for FREESYNC or use the closed source driver.

"Microsoft 'will be enabling VBS on most new PCs over this next year' and that can tank PC gaming performance by around 25%"

In the article SOTTR show a 30fps drop in performance with VBS Enabled. I have not seen any mention of this news anywhere and only saw it mentioned in the LMG Linux challenge thread on reddit.
This does seem interesting. What's VBS?
It Stands for = "Virtualization Based Security" and is planned to ship on all soon to be released OEM windows 11 machines going forward.

"Virtualization Based Security (VBS), a setting introduced into Windows 10 which uses hardware and software virtualisation to enhance the security of your system"

Proton Experimental expands NVIDIA DLSS support on Linux to DirectX 11 titles

Have been really looking forward to experiencing DLSS having been stuck with a GTX 1070 for 5 years, however I just could not justify £1400 for a RTX 3080 so I bit the bullet on a RX 6800XT as I could not wait any longer and boy am I impressed. I have yet to try FSR (AMD implementation of DLSS) but so far getting between 60 and 120 fps at 4k in most titles so have not yet had the need to try it. I can however use FSR with my 1070 to help extend its life in my backup machine.

My only annoyance that I only just found out about is that AMD cards do NOT support HDMI 2.1 due to HDMI driver being closed source. Hopefully AMD can release a closed driver as an add on, maybe? as I have a 55" TV that I cannot enable Freesync or VRR on. Anyone looking for a new GPU should be fully aware of this limitation and choose Nvidia if this feature is a must.

Steam Play Proton 6.3-7 is out now, Proton Experimental gets DLSS for DX12 games on Linux

Does this benefit AMD cards in any way or is it Nvidia only????

I have been holding out for prices to drop in order to get a 30 series NVIDIA GPU however I have just pulled the trigger on a AMD Radeon RX 6800XT for a whopping £1100.00  because my GTX1070 GPU is dying and NVIDIA cards are just to expensive or not available.

I hope I don't regret buying as I plan to game at 4k and was relying on DLSS to enable that. I am concerned as I haven't used a Radeon card for 10 to 15 years so am unfamiliar with their feature set.

This may end up my last GPU and exit from PC Gaming if this price gouging continues.

Ubisoft are keeping an eye on the Steam Deck, will release on it if it's big enough

There is only one way to ensure that Ubi and other big publishers bring over their games and that is to support Valve and Linux by doing the following:-

Buy the Steam Deck.

I am doing my part, I have pre-registered for the top tier unit with a Q2 2022 order/delivery estimate. Cannot wait to get my hands on one. I have heard on the web that over 100k units have already been ordered. If this is true then this is an brilliant start.

The system is determined in the weeks after the sale, so you're counted as a Windows player.
It was my understanding that if a game is purchased on Steam through the Linux client then it automatically qualifies as a Linux sale ????

or

Within 2 weeks of Sale the total playtime will determine which platform the game was purchased on. Eg. Linux 20 hours, Windows 2 hours so would be a Linux Sale.

As for the enhanced edition I wont be playing anytime soon as I am unable to buy any GPU's at Scan, Overclockers, ETC as all out of stock and not even listing prices. Its been this way for months now and have basically given up and will now be boycotting all these stores going forward for all future products as foul play is clearly going on with these retailers.

Valheim is now one of the most successful survival games on Steam with two million sold

Brought this game yesterday. have not played it yet due to time constraints.

This kind of style game does not usually appeal to me but took a punt on it anyway due to overwhelming hype and a cheap asking price, but most importantly it supports linux.

hopefully the linux sales numbers are good.
