The Witcher 3 didn't come to Linux likely as a result of the user-backlash from The Witcher 2

I'd say damage to their reputation for not keeping their word is worse, than damage from some angry jerks who attacked initially poor Linux port.
And there is nothing wrong in attacking a bad product. If we're 2% of the market it still doesn't mean that we need to be treated like gatbage and yet be blamed for not accepting the poor port that we paid money for. It's really childish of them how they try to actually make us feel bad about ourselves.

Funny how developers actually blame us for their mistake, if you don't do your thing right, sure there's gonna be a lot of people complaining and being mad at you.

Their act is quite childish in my opinion, why would they listen to a group of trolls from our community and get insulted, money is what's their primary motive and if they take money and give people half-baked product, yeah, people will get pissed off because they din't get what they paid for.

It's not only our fault, feral has a few bad ports and people got pissed off and after time they actually got much much better instead of whining of how rude that linux community was for getting mad at us because we didn't do our job well...

And everything good to CDPR, they have norhing to do with that.

EVERSPACE seems to be having more issues with Unreal Engine again with Linux support

I believe it is hard for devs to compile a linux version of a game that was designed for windows in mind purely... That's where the devs screw up during the development.
As a general statement, yes, but in this case I disagree. Devs screw up choosing Unreal 4. Almost every game ported from that engine to Linux has problems and bugs and stuff doesn't work right and usually it ends in delays/the Linux version being canceled outright. In theory Unreal 4 supports Linux, but in practice all the work on it comes from just one guy who Epic isn't even paying.

A large number of indie games these days that promise Linux but fail to deliver were made in Unreal 4. The Other 99, Inner Chains, Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Epic needs to get its shit together and hire a small team to fix their engine on Linux.
Yeah that too :) but that's because UE4 has bad cross-plat support, Unity devs seem to have way less problems when developing games for cross-platform. But also the problem is that people just think that porting the game later is a valid option, while ignoring that if they set up the good fundamentals for writing a game using cross-plat dependencies and engines they could literally avoid this hardtime they're having with fixing things afterwards, which in most cases doesn't work out.

Feral Interactive are teasing a new Linux port, bring on the speculation

Quoting: chui2chI'm going to say it's Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. I want it to be Rise of the Tomb Raider, but there are steam db hints that it is Temple of Osiris(domesticated_qa_branch_b).
Feral team said many times that they cover the ports by not updating the steamdb especially for ones that they're teasing, so this means nothing. They could be literally porting 10 AAA and nobody would notice if they would want to cover that...

Quoting: morbiusIt's almost certainly Rise of The Tomb Raider. While I appreciate that you ported the first Tomb Raider, I don't really care about the sequel. Sorry if I sound spoiled, you guys are doing a great work, it's just lately that ports are not really getting my attention.

What I'd really like is something like Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Bayonetta, Dishonored, Brothers: Tale of Two Sons or Dragon's Dogma, although I get that those games are old and there is not much money in them anymore. I think most of us would prefer those rare 'must try' games rather than yet another shooter or RTS.
Yeah I see what you mean, I know that they can't just port any game that they like, they need the approval from the original developer but I still can't see why don't they bring LEGO titles to linux since they're already on Mac and WB and TellTale have ported a few games to linux... or some other cool titles that are easy job to port. But all the games that would be great to have are usually made by companies that don't even give a fuck about linux.

I see where you're coming from :'D I don't think it is this time though...

I'd like it to be AC title but seems very unlikely to me (eventhough Ubisoft does have a few games on linux)

probably Tomb Raider or Shadow of War which are a nice addition to the library as well :)

Leaving Lyndow removes Linux support from Steam due to masses of bug reports

LULz, bad developer I'd say... if he continued on his work for linux support he might have been able to learn whole a lot about cross-platform game development. Not a huge loss though :)

SteamOS has another new beta with a newer Kernel and updated Mesa
15 Jun 2017 at 11:34 pm UTC Likes: 8

Quoting: hardpenguinIt's really weird, seeing popular media outlets reporting Steam Machines ending up an enormous fiasco but also reading all those news of new Mesa developers continously being hired by Valve. And then Valve focusing on VR. Not sure what to think about it.

If nothing else, perhaps at some point all modern Radeon products will finally be a viable choice on Linux ;)
Quoting: operaReally nice to see that updates coming quicker now. And also good having included the important ones like Mesa. Good job, Valve!
I actually expected this :) With the day of MS announcing Windows 10 S, Windows on ARM they're bigger threat to Valve than Valve has ever imagined, practically the Steam community is the only thing that will be holding Steam together if MS decides to ditch the concurrence on Windows.

Gaben about few months ago in interview was like shuh, seems like Windows 10 is finally OK and MS stopped pushing their store and after a few months, BOOM, Windows 10 S. That's when they immidiately began working back on SteamOS intensively and released the MESA update with kernel update and such and I expect to see bigger and more updates in following years.

Now, the next thing, they disapointed a lot of people who actually bought steam machines over the past few years, while Linux gaming did see huge bump in titles, people who actually bought steam machines were disapointed because of Valve's poor and non-frequent updates.

So now they need to play carefully, they need to seek for audience in new customers and they need to put a lot more into it than they did the first time, it'll be interesting to watch what happens in years to come. They did set up a quite nice base (3k+ games), great controller support and improved drivers to begin with and now they just need to make another "console/pc hybrid" that will have guaranteed frequent and big updates and increasing library of AAA titles. Just what people would expect from regular consoles.

+: If Valve makes their own Wine implementation for all of the dx9 legacy games on Steam, making them easily installable without too much hassle and bring the proper controller and input supports, they would automatically increase their library A TON which would actually make linux threatning platform against Windows

GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin drops D3D12 in favour of Vulkan

This is yet another Win for Vulkan over DX12, it's small wins like this we need, more vulkan usage amongst developers = more games on Vulkan which will make majority of new games playable, if not natively through wine with equal performances to Windows :)

Great news!
