Do people think it is worth getting Arma 3 which is available quite cheaply in the current Humble Bundle. It isn't quite my type of game (I prefer DOOM style much more). If I got it, would I be able to use it to play DayZ on Linux (probably not, but thought I'd ask)? Also, it isn't really supporting Linux gaming if I buy it "for Windows" is it.

It seems barely any difference in price to the regular GTX 1080.

GTX 1080 in USA ~ $600
GTX 1080 ti in USA ~ $700

Yeah. I'd already bought it as well, a couple of years ago. It was already sitting in my GOG library. Played it, enjoyed it and finished it. Shared the "Free" link with a bunch of gamer friends.

One of the earliest RPG games I played on Linux. Before that, usually I was using Windows for RPG gaming.

Unfortunately, the GTX 970 is quite close to the low end of VR-compatible graphics cards.

Ideally you'd want GTX 1070 or better. (We use GTX 1080 with our Vive, Oculus at work).

Look: Opinion on VR is most likely very divided. People like me have given VR a decent try (Vive, Oculus, Pixel, PS4 Pro) on current consumer devices. I'm not talking about next-gen VR equipment - I'm talking about current-gen being s _ _ t.

If you think it is a fantastic, mind-blowing experience which completely changes the gaming landscape - Good for you. What games are you playing by the way? Do you rate any of those games better than traditional 'screen' games?

For me, not so much. It's definitely fun to try out. Certain games do feel much better in a VR environment.

I'm not a big fan of 3D cinema either. If a film is out on 2D and 3D, most of the time I find it more pleasant as a 2D experience, and quite often 3D spoils the viewing pleasure (because it hasn't been done well enough).

I would highly recommend trying out someone else's equipment, or trying a VR system at a trade show, friend's home, specialist store, etc - and evaluating VR for yourself. I've already done that and I don't particularly like it. It is quite expensive to get into, and if you find you don't like it, money down the toilet.

Go Croteam. But, seriously, .... only 1% of people are wasting money on VR kit so far. And I for one... I work in a Gaming Company and VR is s _ _ t. You wouldn't see me wasting money on VR gear for 2+ years. It is good to be "ahead of the game" and release stuff into this space before other people do, but "right now" it isn't a money-spinner.

I've been saying F.U. to Intel for many years. The last 2 years at my current job: 90% of the CPUs in the office have been AMD CPUs - Thanks to me. FX processors might not be as fast, single-core as Intel ones, but over-clock them, use all the cores, and BAM ... Intel is poor value for money.

Bargains are one of my favourite subjects. For me, achieving a bargain is "like winning a game". Heh.

One of the biggest bargains I've spotted is for "Planetary Annihilation". It's a Command & Conquer-like Real Time Strategy game. Gets a score of 62% average on Metacritic.
