A Linux beta of X4: Foundations is due in 'the next few days' (update: it's up)
26 Feb 2019 at 5:05 pm UTC

According to this post [External Link] the final version will be available on GOG, but the Beta will be solely on Steam.
Quoting: BeamboomWhy not? I mean, if it's worth it it's worth it, isn't it? So, if they held back the windows version until the Linux version were ready (now) you'd buy it, but since Windows received it first you want to, what, punish the devs?

A good game is a good game, and it's not like this was released a decade ago on Windows. :)
I personally am of different opinion. There is such a thing as hype. A decade-old game is barely interesting to anyone; by that time everyone interested had probably played it already. So, it is only natural that the game's price should drop (sorry, Nintendo, selling Famicom Mario, a three decade old game with vastly outdated graphics and sound, in a form of iNES format -- invented by "pirates" -- and emulated at full price is not OK :><: ).
Additionally, the devs are seem to agree with me. They already have had some sales (10…20%, AFAICR) prior to this date, so they are OK with the idea to sell the game cheaper.
It is not that I am punishing them, either. After all, we all have priorities. They decided to focus on Windows first, and that is fine, it is their call, after all, and it is not that they lied to anybody and have run with our money like "505 Games" / Igarashi did with "Bloodstained". Similarly, I have decided to give extra money to other developers.
Punishing -- is what I am doing with "Larian Studios" and their "Divinity" series or (to a lesser extent) with "Mimimi Productions" ("Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun"), effectively boycotting their games until 90% (75% for "Shadow Tactics") discount.
I'm bragging here, am I not? Darn! It was not my intention, but… well… my time has its own price, and I'm not suffering from shortage of games with such titles as "CrossCode", "Pillars of Eternity" (both games), "Dreamfall Chapters", "Deponia" series or… "The Witcher 2" being owned but not yet completed (or even played). Not to mention "Kerbal Space Program" :D. Yeah, I'm stocked full!
Quoting: PatolaIt's delayed, sure, but they prioritized it enough that it is out much earlier than on X: Rebirth comparatively, and even though at the same time they are heavily patching and expanding the game. I think they are showing enough love for Linux that warrants them the full price priviledge. :)
Quoting: einherjarUhhh, that's really a disappointing attitude, IMHO.
Sorry to disappoint you guys/girls, but I have my set of rules ("No Tux, No Bucks", "Never Pre-Order", "DRM-free or Bust", "Not a day-1 release == Not a Full Price Purchase") and will stick to them.
After all, they are fairly reasonable: to reward diligent and to punish delinquent.

P.S. I had given exactly $0 for Tommy "Linux Can Fuck Off For All I Care" Refenes's "Super Meat Boy" on the "Humble Indie Bundle" it was included and my conscience has not been torturing me since.

Good news!
As much as I liked "X: Rebirth", no way I'm gonna pay in full for a delayed release. I'm waiting for DRM-free Linux version on sale (most probably, on GOG) to get it.

BATTLETECH is having a free weekend on Steam, plus a look at other good Linux game deals

BATTLETECH… didn't find time to even download despite owning it on GOG. :( A delayed version is a delayed version; the hype (not to mention the summer vacation) is long gone, now I have other games to play already.

The number of Linux gamers on Steam continues to grow, according to Valve

"People using Linux" /= "Linux Gamers".
With Proton™ around developers can just forget about Linux and focus on making games for Windows instead. I mean, look up to the CDPR: they screwed Linux gamers over with "The Withcher III" and got away with it. There is even W3 fan-club out there screaming with joy about how smooth it runs with DXVK (and that now everyone should totally buy it).

As long as people are flushing their money into Windows games we are getting nowhere.
And Steam is only a temporary ally, IMO. Steam /= Linux gaming. We were doing just fine without it; we definitely will continue to be so after Valve goes bankrupt (I'm not a prophet, though, and can not foresee how this showdown with Epic will end).

P.S. Also, I should mention, the article features Tommy "Linux, Linux can fuck off for all I care" Refenes, so one shouldn't be surprised about his deragatory demeanor towards Linux.

What have you been playing recently and what do you think of it?

1) "Kerbal Space Program";
2) "ATOM RPG: Post-apocalyptic indie game";
3) eeew… "Vixen 357" with English patch?

Looks like Easy Anti-Cheat strikes again with Steam Play, Paladins is no longer playable on Linux

Quoting: KimyrielleLast time I checked, the number of big-budget games on Linux was not really stunning, and we seem to get LESS these days than 2-3 years back. Some genres are still missing completely (the number of good MMORPGs having a native client is still zero).

In all honesty, without WINE I probably would still play more in Windows, than Linux.
Well, last time I checked my libraries, I still had several dozens of bought but not yet played games. And last time I checked general (read: Windows) gaming news sites they were full of whining about how "lootboxes", "pay-to-play" (not even "-to-win", LOL), and overblown "open world" design have basically ruined modern (so called "AAA") gaming. ;) In general
( big-budget /= (good .OR. fun) )
:)

Don't even remember when I last time had Windows on my home PCs. :)

Who cares about yet another Windows game not running on Linux? As if it is the only one…

By now we are basically swimming in good native games, so why bother spending your time on some Windows title which developers don't even care about Linux?

P.S. And the "But… But… But it is sooooo popular with my classmates!!!" argument is just lame. As it was stated before, "Appeal to Popularity" is a common logic pitfall.

P.P.S. I know I'm also using a logic trick, basically "I personally do not care so every one else should not care" statement thinly veiled as a question. But it is no worse than "Many people care so you also should care" approach. :)

No Demo == No Pledge.

It is way past the point we could trust developers' words (khm… Bloodstained… khm…), IMO.

Quoting: qptain NemoIt's the principle of the thing. I bought a native Linux game.
Sorry, but no, you have not. It is a subscription, not a purchase.

And yes, "VALVE AND ITS AFFILIATES AND SERVICE PROVIDERS", as stated in the Steam Subscriber Agreement [External Link], provide services "AS IS" … "WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND".

Sad, but true. At least, in case of DRM-free stores you could keep your local copy. No such luck with Steam. :(
