BATTLETECH for Linux updated, releases Flashpoint expansion – some thoughts
30 Nov 2018 at 9:19 am UTC

Quoting: JBtW can we go back to talking about Battletech, PPCs & LRMs and blowing Mechs :P

Anyone want to play?
You mean "they vs. it" stuff or other SJW toplics? :P

Sorry I've lost my interest in the game long ago. No time for late-to-the-party betas of dubious quality. :(

Quoting: BTREAs for GOG, it wouldn't be the first time that they took their time to provide Linux builds or patches of games as they typically test things themselves before pushing on their storefront.
Nice joke! No, really nice one. I still remember their level of "testing" during "Pathfinder: Kingmaker" and "Pillars of Eternity II" launches.

BATTLETECH for Linux updated, releases Flashpoint expansion – some thoughts

From the Kickstarter page:

Linux Beta update: The Linux Beta along with fixes and updates has been integrated with the main game version and is available on Steam, GOG, and Humble!

Linux known issues:
--The game must have write access to the installation directory. If you get infinite loading screens on launch or when starting a new game make sure the directory is writable: sudo chmod -R 777 BattleTech_Data
--Non-English Linux systems may experience infinite loading screens. Please opt-in to the Localized Beta (below) or use the launch option work-around: LC_ALL=C
We've been fed a BETA instead of the proper release despite HBS promising us everything should be ready by the deadline.

Oh, and the game is still listed as unavailable for Linux on GOG (which is understandable considering they shoved our way v1.21β). :)

Way to go, HBS!

An update on INSOMNIA: The Ark for Linux, still coming but no ETA

Quoting: liamdaweIt sounds like GOG want them to improve the game first, before listing it on their store.
They could have chosen any other DRM-free store (itch.io, Humble Store). It is not like GOG owns "DRM-free" brand.

So, in this case I assume they just don't care about those preferring DRM-free.

Currently the game is outdated and the DLC is not available on GOG.

As usual. :|

The RPG 'Underworld Ascendant' will be on Linux 1-2 months after release

WOW!
What a bunch of "We want DRM-free but if not GOG then we want Steam!" freaks. They sure are quick to abandon their "DRM-free facade" and show true colors (namely, being "GOG fanatics").

Somehow, I'm feeling ashamed for their behavior. :'(

Book of Demons no longer getting a native Linux port, developer plans on 'supporting' Steam Play (updated)

Quoting: NeverthelessI'd say proton could be harmful to some native versions, but all in all we're dead in the water without it.
Are you serious?

So, eight years of native ports (too many to list here) were "dead in the water"? Be they few in numbers, it doesn't matter, you can't argue that we lived without "Proton" up until now and slowly progressed.

And now "Proton", or rather, PROTON emerged and we all must enable "All Hail Gabe!!!" mode praising our savior?!

I'd say, without proton we had big publishers going "We are so big, we can't afford wasting resources on Linux for additional $100 of income, you know, rate of investment… yadda yadda…" while small-time and novice developers sometimes considered Linux versions. Now we have the above (please, prove me wrong, name a single AAA developer who switched her/his stance) plus "Just Use Proton"™ from small-time ones.

MISSION -FSCK***- ACCOMPLISHED!!!

This War of Mine to get a second story DLC with The Last Broadcast, releasing next month (UPDATED)
31 Oct 2018 at 4:09 pm UTC

At the moment we don't have resources to support Linux. And we can't confirm anything in this matter, sadly.
Well, that settles it! I was unsure whether to get the DLC (on GOG, where it still has Linux icon) or not. Now my course of actions seems clear. :D

Quoting: abelthorneWe're talking about Return of the Obra Dinn, the new game by Lucas Pope (who made Papers Please), that sub just gave as an example of a recent game which doesn't have Linux support. It was just a small side discussion unrelated to the game in the article (One Hour One Life).
Oh! Sorry, my bad. Didn't even play Papers Please, so that name of yours' haven't ring any bells. :D

Unleashed, an open-world sandbox style RPG released with Linux support

Quoting: GustyGhostThis is surprisingly common for some reason. Too many devs treat itch.io as a trash bin for their production iterations.
Perhaps, if a dev is placing his/her work in a "trash bin", then he/she is developing just that, a trash. :P

On the matter of the game itself. Seriously, judging by the video, it looks mediocre generic bland RPGmakeresque piece of … work. Come on! No combat animations? Different sprites and portraits looking like they were been drawn by different artists in different styles. And that dialogue system… Honestly, dialogues in "The Battle for Wesnoth" look nicer (and Wesnoth's sprites had been drawn by different artists).
