Roblox intentionally blocking Linux with Wine in their new update

I'll be sure to let my nine-year-old know where to direct his ire... (He's using Endless OS)

That said, actively blocking something because it's "not supported" is borderline malicious. Fair enough if they say you can't expect any support if an error crops up, but actively blocking it is just mean!

Ubuntu flavours to drop Flatpak by default and stick to Snaps

It's all a bit "meh" in my opinion.

If you don't like snaps, don't use a distro that use snaps. If you don't like flatpak, don't use a distro that use flatpak. If you don't like either, then you know what to do.

It's all about having the option to choose what you want to use yourself. In the end, we all win regardless

I was one of the beta testers for this game, back in 2018, and I'm really glad they're keeping the updates coming!

Retro x86-based machine emulator 86Box v3.2 brings Linux support

Regardless of your preference for application delivery method (I prefer flatpaks, for instance), 86box looks like a neat tool for retro enthusiasts like myself.

To test this, I dug out my old OS/2 Warp 3.2 diskettes, and so far it performs better for old systems than using DosBox, Qemu, and Virtualbox. DosBox is fine if all you want to do is play old dos games, but I like to dabble in a bit of OS/2, OpenStep, IRIX, System V Unix and the like. And for that, DosBox just doesn't cut the mustard...

NVIDIA releases a 12GB GeForce RTX 3080

Two easy questions I ask myself:

Do I want a new GPU? Yes. My 1060 is starting to show its age.

Do I want a new GPU that cost more than any of my previous PCs did in total? Nope.

And a third bonus question: Do I want another GPU where I'm relying on proprietary driver support? Nope...

Quoting: ZlopezI was actually surprised to get the Survey popup yesterday. So I immediately filled it and sent it. It was some time till I saw the survey last time.
I actually got it on *both* my machines last month, so that's one for Pop OS, and one for Elementary OS...

Valve answers the question: should developers do native Linux support or Proton?
13 Nov 2021 at 2:19 pm UTC Likes: 35

Having worked on multiple (okay, two) games released first on Windows, and then on Linux, we saw that while using Proton/Wine was great for testing (it gave way better crash reports than what we got in Windows), performance was just about doubled on modest hardware when we made a Linux native build (up from around 25 FPS to over 40).

I was in the market for upgrading my desktop this summer, since my previous upgrade was in early 2017, but I ended up getting a new laptop instead.

The only desktop GPU I was able to get, without paying scalper prices, was an Nvidia GT710 (and I've got one of those in storage already)... So a laptop upgrade it was, even though my previous laptop was from late 2018.

Hopefully, this will be a GPU people can actually buy. Personally, I want to replace my 1060 with something AMD, because open source drivers...

Get a look inside the Steam Deck in Valve's latest video

Mad props to Valve for creating a video that's basically "Please don't open the Steam Deck, but here's how you do it"

I've built computers for damn near 30 years. I build and maintain servers for a living. I deal with sensitive electronic equipment on a daily basis.

Once I get my hands on a Steam Deck, you better believe that thing is getting a bigger SSD...
