Firaxis Games New IP "Civilization: Beyond Earth" Will Come To Linux - CONFIRMED
12 Apr 2014 at 4:30 pm UTC

I thought Civ 5 was the one coming to Linux. If that's not, then I have my doubts on this. Until Firaxis says it themselves, I will restrain myself from getting happy and hyped up on it :)

CryEngine SDK on SteamDB Is Now The CryEngine 3 Free SDK
8 Apr 2014 at 9:38 pm UTC

CryEngine 3? So, that means that not only are they bringing CryEngine 4 (or simply labelled CryEngine now) to Linux, but they are bringing CryEngine 3 as well?

Doesn't this mean CryEngine 3 games can now be ported to Linux? (Star Citizen, Sniper 2, Crysis 3?)

Esenthel Game Engine New Version & Now Subscription Based, With Source Access

Any list of noteworthy games made with Esenthel (That's really hard to say/type)? Anything that actually runs on Linux right now?

Shadowrun Online Will Not See Day 1 Linux Support, Could Be Another Sore Spot Brewing

Getting tired of Unity and their engine crap.
It's not the fault of Unity3D! I've personally used Unity, and besides a few differences in how it handles textures between the OS's, it really is just click to Export. These developers are the ones waiting till the last minute to click that button and then do QA for Linux.

Don't bite the hand that feeds. They may not have a native Linux editor, but we sure as hell wouldn't have the library of games we have now if not for Unity3D. Give them time. If CryEngine and Unreal decide to bring their editors to linux natively (and not an empty promise), then I'm sure the folks at Unity3D will feel the pressure and do the same.

Interview With Stefan Achatz Developer Of ROCCAT Gaming Hardware Drivers For Linux
28 Mar 2014 at 5:22 am UTC

It's a shame I can't really get my hands on Roccat gear here locally. The only Roccat gear I got my hands on when I discovered Roccat was ok with Linux, was the Roccat Kave. Best sounding gaming headphones out of all the ones I've tried (Razer, SteelSeries,SonicGear,TurtleBeach).

The Kave has worked in all my Ubuntu installations to date. Never an issue with sound quality (plus the Linux drivers seem to give me heavier bass compared to the Windows ones, I don't know why). Only one issue, the headphones are way too heavy. After playing a couple of hours, it gives me a strong headache and a very sore head.

Keep up the good work Stefan Achatz, and thanks Roccat for the Linux love!

Maratis Another Open-Source Game Engine
23 Mar 2014 at 2:38 pm UTC

Found this a while back when using Ubuntu 13.04, couldn't get it running right. I could get the demo up, but that took a day. The documentation is seriously scarce and it's up to guess work where to put things. Moreover, I couldn't even manage to import my 3D model from Blender.

Maybe the newer version is better, but if it's as difficult to use as when I last tried it I can't regard Maratis as good as Unity 3D or even Leadwerks.

The Wine Development Release 1.7.15 Is Now Available
23 Mar 2014 at 5:54 am UTC

'fixed' also means someone bothered to revisit old bugs, checked it with recent wine version and found it working.
Many bugs that are probably fixed are just rotting for years in Bugzilla (users report them and never retest/revisit).
Also many bugs are invalid from start (use of outdated/broken wine versions, wineprefix/installation messed up...).
Hey mate, how would I go about helping retest/revisit the bugs? Would I need to be the one who issued the bug report? I've used Wine for a while now, but I only know how to post comments and test data on WineHQ's AppDB.

NVIDIA, AMD, Intel Explain How OpenGL Can Unlock 15x Performance Gains, With Slides
21 Mar 2014 at 2:08 pm UTC

What nVidia GPU have you got?
I have an Nvidia GTX 680 running the Nvidia 334 drivers on Ubuntu 13.10 currently :)

The Intel drivers are fantastic, their hardware is the bottleneck.
I agree with you on the hardware being a bottleneck, but the drivers aren't that good yet. I just recently tried running Portal 2 on my Intel HD4600 2 days ago, and can barely keep 20 fps at 1920x1080 with everything else set to maximum low or off. Yet, in Dota 2 with the same settings I can reach 120 fps. There isn't a proper consistency in the Intel driver yet (at least not on Ubuntu in my test runs). Still leaves a lot left to be desired in terms of performance.

STFU unless you OWN/currently use them.
I'm pretty certain we're all speaking from personal experience with our own hardware here. Don't rush to assumptions too fast.
