Lots Of Big Games Confirmed For SteamOS, Torchlight II Now Out, Payday 2, Mordor And More Coming Too
8 Mar 2015 at 9:08 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweI've personally played Evolve quite a lot on my PS4, and I really do like it. Playing it as the Monster is really quite intense.

Can't wait to play it on Linux myself.
I'm glad the game sounds like a lot of fun. I honestly hope it doesn't take forever before it's ported. I'm sorry I'm sounding so pessimistic. I just put my expectations for the L4D developers a bit too high, expecting them to have prioritized us a little better.

Lots Of Big Games Confirmed For SteamOS, Torchlight II Now Out, Payday 2, Mordor And More Coming Too

The addition of Evolve is kind of depressing. They waited until the game tanked in sales before they decided they needed to port it. When it does come out, there may not be enough players for us to play the game properly.

To put it in perspective, I've been watching Steam stats and Dying Light has been 10k peak and above almost consistently. Despite all the hype around Evolve, shortly after it released (it's newer than Dying Light) it's player count has continued to dwindle.

It's now sitting at a mere 4k peak, that's 6k down from last week. If the game comes out in several months from now, it may not even have 1k players on a consistent basis anymore.

In all honesty, I'm glad Valve wasn't behind this game.

Quoting: rick01457So, can anyone with a bit of experience tell me should I get 'Cheek 2 Cheek' or the mildly educational 'Hurt me plenty'?
That gave me a good chuckle :D
One 'like' for you, good sir.

Unreal Engine Is Now Free, Including Access To The Source Code

Argh! As I am trying to master GameMaker and actually produce more than a prototype for a game in the first time in my life, both Unity and Unreal are making this impossible.

Unity 5.0 around the corner with better Linux support, and now Unreal Engine becoming free as well like Unity. I'm finding it hard to stay disciplined and stick to one development set of tools.

This is really great news all the way around :D

An interview with Gallium Nine project developer Axel Davy
21 Feb 2015 at 10:47 am UTC

A quick question, if one wanted to get involved in Gallium Nine's development, how would one go about doing so?

What kind of knowledge would one require to effectively contribute to Gallium Nine? Ok, after reading through the website this information is provided there. My bad, sorry.

Quoting: FutureSutureThat is one imaginative trailer to say the least! Better than those trashy trailers for AAA games you see all the time for sure.
In all honesty, before seeing the trailer, I was skeptical at your fondness for it. After watching it, you're spot on! That trailer is fantastic.

Dying Light Major Patch Released, Still Abysmal On Linux
15 Feb 2015 at 7:45 am UTC

Linux gamers still seem to be unable to play co-up
This is not entirely correct. I'm running Ubuntu, I've hosted many co-op games and my Arch friend is able to join. My Windows friend is also able to join. People drop in and out with no problems so far. My Windows friend is also able to host, and both my Ubuntu setup and my friends Arch setup can join. Plus, chat is fixed now (player names are still bugged).

If you have access to your router, and you find you and your Linux buddy cannot connect to each other, both of you have to restart your routers (if you're from a nation with dynamic IPs provided by ISPs). It should work afterwards.

Exactly as EKRboi has said, don't switch between Windows and Linux during gameplay. You'll lose parts of your save file. I did it and regretted it. Btw, the game actually doesn't look right in my Windows 8.1 install. Lights pierce through walls most often, doesn't happen with the Linux port on my side.

Techland See Sense On Dying Light Modding & There's Hope For The Linux Version

Quoting: FeistSounds nice!

Sadly, they'll probably be too late in patching to benefit me much. I'm currently 35 hours into the game and although I considered waiting for improvements via patches, I was simply having far to much fun to stop. On the brighter side, I haven't suffered a single crash and/or freeze during my playtime and not a single "progress-stopping" bug yet either. (not counting the inability to secure certain safe-zones)

So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll hurry, or I just might reach the "end-credits" before the next patch. ;-)
I have to agree! 31 hours in, despite my graphics hardware being 2 generations behind. I've encountered a couple of crashes and low fps, but nothing stopping me from enjoying Dying Light's gameplay. The mechanics and level design are superb. The enemies you face are smart and the hurdles you go through are amplified in fun when playing with a friend.

In short, I am really glad I purchased Dying Light and I have to say thank you to Techland for supporting us day one with this release! (Heck, the fact we get to enjoy these release day issues show how far we've come on this platform)

An Update On The Open Source Xoreos Project For Neverwinter Nights 2

That is amazing work. May I ask how you procured the knowledge to reach this level? Were you a computer science student?

To be able to re-implement an engine like this, with how far you've already reached, it really baffles my mind how you grasp it all. Keep up the good work :)
