Epic Games are killing off a bunch of classics like Unreal Tournament

I'm sure you have other reasons, but using this one specifically is honestly a bit weird.

Quoting: BlackBloodRumIronically, it's the same reason I outright refuse to use Epic Store, they heavily peddle their EAC DRM, while on the other hand I will happily buy regularly from Steam, because they support my platform or GOG because they don't peddle restrictive DRM.EAC is an Anti-cheat, not DRM. Moreover, they're not "heavily peddling" it, and it's certainly not in every game they sell on EGS as you seem to be implying. Hell, it's not even in every game they make or have a hand in making. Certain Steam games also have EAC too, so this is even more of a strange reason to single out EGS.
I'm sure you have other reasons, but using this one specifically is honestly a bit weird.

2. That's....not a reason. I'm not even quite sure what that even means.
3. Don't talk to people on a forum like how you're doing now. I'm not a paid shill, nor am I illiterate or hard of reading, or defending an anti-consumer practice. I was providing you information; Information you merrily disregarded because it didn't fit your own opinion, and you decided to treat me like an idiot. That's no way to talk to people because you disagree with them.
4. This comment was made almost a month later because, ironically, my PC died.

Quoting: Guest1. Unless the games your playing through steam are DRM free, you need to be online at least once every two weeks. Denuvo isn't doing anything different.Quoting: DribbleondoI had no internet for several months and was able to play all steam games except ones that had denuvo.Quoting: GuestThe tokens Denuvo relies on are refreshed every two weeks (on Steam at least), and absolutely allow for an "offline mode" in the vein you seem to be talking about. It's the exact same system as Steam's offline mode. The only thing stopping you is your hatred for Denuvo, not Denuvo itself.Quoting: Arcadius-8606You are right. I have two games in steam I can't play offline: Deus Ex MD, and Doom Eternal. Both games have denuvo, and there is no effective offline mode. I won't buy a denuvo game again. Either I'll get a version without denuvo (when developer removes it, or by other means), or I'll just ignore a game at all. This is insane. If buying a game doesn't grant me a permission to play it, why bothering buying it at all lol.Quoting: Guest2. You are too optimistic about the world where we have always-online DRM for singleplayer games.Yeah but the great thing about that is that you can say fuck you to that game and company and support the DRM FREE ones. It's not that hard to avoid this stuff.
Like I want to game but it's on my terms with my money. I get what I want 100% of the time.
Also, Deus Ex Mankind Divided has no Denuvo on its "native" Linux port. So...

Two weeks is not enough. Infinite offline is the only enough option.
Stop defending anti-consumer practice, or are you paid denuvo shill?
I just repeat it again in simple words:
1. I paid for a game.
2. I can't play it for DRM reasons.
Is it understandable? Clear enough? Can you get the scope of the situation?
2. That's....not a reason. I'm not even quite sure what that even means.

AMD becomes a 'Diamond' sponsor of OBS Studio

Quoting: ripper81358Good news. However it would be great if AMD could do something to make the Radeon GPU'S work better when used for videoencoding via VAAPI with OBS.There's a plugin called obs-Gstreamer [External Link] that makes it much easier to deal with, but as you say, it's still well behind in terms of any other encoder.
While it is obvious that AMD is clearly behind in encodingperformance and quality when compared to Nvidia GPU'S even on Windows, the performance on linux with VAAPI is really weak.
Valve finally clears up Steam game release dates, also adjusts pricing

So they're already doing it, they just need to do it to bigger release games.

Quoting: M@GOidWell, Steam became a success and did much to reduce piracy in countries where it was endemic (like here in Brazil), because it was a cheap way to buy games. You can bet your furry ass that game piracy will increase a lot in the coming months, in places where the price increased in the high double-digits.Certain indie games on EGS are actually lower in price, Hades comes to mind, but it's usually only by less than a (currently useless) english pound; it's £18.99 on EGS vs £19.49 on Steam. This WILL vary by country.
Also, now is time to Epic to put their wallets where their mouths are, and start offering lower prices than Steam, after all, they said in court the market needs competition... But we all know how this gonna end.
So they're already doing it, they just need to do it to bigger release games.

Getting mods to work isn't really all that different. People have had issues in the past, in part due to libcurl4 incompatibilities ruining any chance of getting it to work, but it's fine now. Native modding doesn't work on Steam Deck due to Flatpaks' sandboxing, and my attempts to override it have not been fruitful.
Right now, the Native Port does have a bit of a problem with Mesa drivers being built against LLVM14/15 (which is to say, modern Fedora and Arch), but general Ubuntu and Mint installs won't be affected unless they use bleeding edge PPA's. Cpnversly, newer Proton builds cause a memory leak when running the game and (re)starting levels which sounds rather nasty.
Just some food for thought from a dual booter of the game since 2016.

Quoting: udekmp69The native port is fine, but it uses OpenGL, which works for you if your GPU doesn't have Vulkan support I suppose. I use Proton because DXVK seems to get a lot better performance. I also heard getting mods for this game is a lot easier thru Proton than the native port. Both are playable though and it's just down to preference.Oh, there is a comparison video, huh. That's very interesting. I can actually relate to the results shown there as being pretty accurate. OpenGL does bottleneck the game, though that's hardly the games' fault. It runs basically the same when compared to Proton or even Native Windows, so it's up to personal preference really.
I just searched to see if there were any videos on youtube with native v. proton, and here's a good comparison from 2020 - https://youtu.be/jDf00eS4XJ0 [External Link]

Quoting: soulsourceFun Fact; Spyro Reignited's ability codebase is done entirely through blueprints.Quoting: salomFinally! Why? If you want to do anything reasonable with Unreal, you'll need to set up a build environment for C++ scripting anyhow (yes, there is Blueprint, but as soon as your project grows beyond "game jam" size, Blueprint scripts become so large and convoluted, that they are
I promised my self back in 2018 to never (compile, use or learn) UnrealEngine until they give us proper Linux support and a native buildhardimpossible to read/maintain). After using Unreal for a few days, you'll find yourself in the situation that you'll want to modify the engine because your project gets blocked by a bug in it. That's then the point where you uninstall the precompiled engine, compile it from source, and ask yourself why you thought it was a good idea to waste time on the precompiled build in the first place.
(Edit: Please take this with a grain of salt. I'm currently working with Unreal professionally, and had enough opportunities to get frustrated by it.)
