Just so people are aware, this may be some foreshadowing as Paladins will be getting an update in about a week, so it's very possible the "required" .so is being prepared by Evil Mojo.

Epic's opinion of Linux has always been that they support it, its comments like these just try to downplay this because it's easier to be negative toward the company than even giving them a little credit where its due.

Also, unless i'm missing something here, isn't the base source code for UE4's code the exact same as it would be for Windows? If anything, that makes it more up to date than the precompiled versions you'd use on Windows/ MacOS otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, Epic really should do precompiled versions of UE4 and 5 for the popular Linux flavors too.

Mediatonic were bought out by Epic at I believe at the end of last year. How is that shady exactly? Because they made a business deal you didn't like? Because that's not what shady means. Shady means it was done on the down low away from prying eyes, which this deal wasn't.

Them buying out Mediatonic and being EGS exclusive was the next step, and anyone who paid attention to the buyout news shouldn't be surprised by this. They did this with Psyonix and Rocket League, so it stood to reason Fall Guys was going to Epics' store too. I don't like it either, but I can't say i'm surprised, let alone feign it for internet points.

Hey there. Thanks for the correction. I've revisited the Heroic Launcher (Bear in mind that it is brand new to me) and I note that the Stores are squirreled away in a separate tag menu i.e. Yes, they are available but no they aren't "in your face" when you want to access to your game library.

When I launch Epic client on Windows, I get presented immediately with a store front and typically there are video adverts for the various games. Noting that I load up the Windows Epic client very rarely.

The store has slideshow ads for the games it sells (because that's literally what a storefront does, and Steam also does this), but as far as I recall, it doesn't autoplay videos until you click on, say, God of War. And saying that the storefront is "in your face" because it launches to the store when you open EGS is a bit of a odd complaint to be honest, as you can just use the taskbar menu to launch games you want. Steam does the exact same thing, hell, it gives you adverts when you boot steam up, which have to be toggled either off or to redirect to the library respectively.

AFAIK, there's no EGS toggle to go straight to library, so >:/ get on that Epic.

Saying "you will be faced with a ban" is not antagonistic in of itself because, as Liam wrote, this is literally how ANY anti-cheat supported game reacts, and has done since Wine came onto the scene, and isn't new behaviour. It'd be antagonistic if Bungie had said "We will never support linux you weebs, and you'll face a ban for even trying on your cruddy operating system". That would be antagonistic. What we got was boilerplate PR speak, and nothing more.

What we're currently seeing, and probably will continue to see for the foreseeable future, is just news sites making a bigger deal out of this than they should be because the Steam Deck is the new hot thing, and being outraged at Bungie's response about not playing a game like that on the Deck is gonna get some clicks. Glad Liam didn't fall for that trap, so mad respect.

Surprised Hitman 2 isn't on that list; hell Hitman 3, considering both run under Proton pretty well.
