Our Linux & SteamOS gamer survey results for January 2016

Here some more curious answers:
OS question: "sadly windows", "Windows. Linux sucks", "uninstalled Linux", "Too frequently distrohopping to say", "n/a", "Nothing", "Windows, when there are more games i will switch to Linux", "Reverted back to Windows", "OSX", "Linux From Scratch" (all my respect!)
For the DE question: "what", "Command line", "Several", "No DE, I control my machine directly via opcodes", "explorer.exe", "Aero (Win7)", "on laptop i use unity in Ubuntu--because Ubuntu comes as default like this--but BEfore I very much liked Gnome 2, thats why I switched to Mint with Mate on board", "I don't own a primary Linux gaming PC.", "OSX"
For the retailer question: variants of "didn't buy any game" (I guess many don't know that an answer can be left empty), "Trading steam keys", "gift", "Linux gameing sucks!", "Support to open source projects", "Local electronics store", "I was broke last month...", "pregnant wife. The time wasn't there for new games." (this was on Oct/2014, late congratulations!), "Didn't buy any game last month duo to school" (good choice!)

Quoting: linuxgamerPlease don't post the numbers especially with 1/10 000th accuracy. With a sample size of ~1000 this makes absolutely no sense. It depends on how you read the data, under the assumption the respondent are the target population they do make sense. Please ignore them if meaningless to you.
Quoting: WorMzyWhile cool and all, I think these new graphs really show the utter stupidity of some people. I mean, some people have seriously submitted "Windows 7" as their current Linux distro? And despite having a dedicated Arch-based option, some idiots have still chosen "other" and entered variants of "Arch" and "ArchLinux"?Some questions were fixed after a few surveys to be more clear, for example the variants of "Arch" have almost completely disappeared (only 2) in the last year.
There is definitely some merit in removing the safety labels from products like bleach. Let the problem solve itself. :P

Quoting: GuestThe graphs are blank for me, except the first one.My bad, I wrote a comma where I shouldn't have so the lines in the svg file are not valid, Chromium seems to be less strict so I didn't notice the mistake. I've just fixed it and I'm working on another couple of minor improvements, I'll send The Boss the updated files some time tonight. Sorry again.
Infinite Bundle from Bundle Stars has 12 Linux games for next to nothing

Select "Games, Software...", select the game in question and select the "I want to permanently remove this game from my account".
A less drastic alternative is to hide the game in the library:
Right click on the game -> Set categories: check "Hide this game in my library"

Quoting: scaineGames can be deleted (for good!) from the steam support page: https://help.steampowered.com/ [External Link]Quoting: LukeNukemBundle Stars bundles...?I bought a couple - some are decent. How do you "remove" games from your steam account? Do you mean you deleted them?
Yeah I just recently removed *all* of previous BS games from my Steam account. Most (not all), are fucking horrible, unfortunately.
And that sucks for the devs...

Vulkan Really Is The Official Name Of The Next Generation OpenGL Initiative

I really don't think Vulkan can have many flaws considering how much of the relevant industry is behind it and how much effort they are putting in it (e.g. Source 2 ported to Vulkan, Vulkan Intel drivers, PowerVR demo...)

Quoting: ShmerlWill Vulkan allow it?Vulkan is based on Mantle (source AMD blog) so most likely the behaviour is the same. While specifications are not available the few examples around show that the functions to submit command buffers are exactly the same, signature included, except for 2 chars vkQueueSubmit instead of grQueueSubmit for obvious reasons.

They did a lot more work than I expected! At page 8 of the slides there is a screenshot of the Vulkan debugger developed by Valve and LunarG with some API calls. I wonder how close the names are to Mantle API although at low level the actual calls are probably very similar to each other.
The Vulkan working group is also interesting, it seems all relevant industry and more is onboard. Just discovered that Continental is also in the working group... they must be using graphics API for tires tassellation... (...stupid joke, I couldn't resist, sorry!)

Quoting: Segata SanshiroNoted and added "pin colour to answer" to the TODO list :)Quoting: NyamiouOn the third question, you should make it so that the "Yes" answer is at the bottom, because the "I don't have a Windows partition" and "No" are similar answer so it would be better if this was easier to add up those two. Also on question 8, between the different kind of CPU the colors are not always for the same thing (like green is sometimes for proprietary drivers and sometimes for open source drivers) that make it harder to instantly see the differences between the graphs.I'll pass on the suggestions to fedso, he's the graph guy :)
