Surely no coincidence with the decrease of Chinese users ;)
Yeah, noticed that. Still, even with that decline the total Steam numbers seem to be rising anyway, so some of that rise has to be new Linux users.
Yes, sure. My post wasn't meant that sarcastic.
It seems that the big jumps in both directions are cause by Chinese users joining or leaving Windows. Though in-between Linux usage is relatively pretty much the same the past years, meaning new Linux users are joining Steam similar as new Windows users. Granted, only 1 of 50 new users seems to be a new Linux user (assuming 2%), but still...

Psyonix are ending support for Rocket League on both Linux and macOS (updated)

I'm not a RL player, but this announcement is really sad since there aren't much cross platform multi player games out there :(

Given their reason for doing so, this would have been a nice use case for https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/pull/1264 [External Link]
Though I guess some time will pass until this really is a serious option for bigger studios, if ever.

PS: just to be sure, I don't mean the discussion about DXVK's maintainability, but the actual PR which kind of offers DX support on Linux.

The first DXVK release of 2020 is here with plenty of D3D9 improvements

The number of threads used for pipeline compilation was tweaked this time too, hopefully reducing the performance impact on those with 6/8 core CPUs while also allowing CPUs with more than 12 cores to scale it up a bit. You can customize it with the dxvk.numCompilerThreads option.
Is this also available as a launch option?
It needs to go into the configuration file, though you can refer to a configuration file from the Steam launch options.

That said, DXVK has very sane defaults. In almost all situations you are better off without any configuration settings. Please also keep in mind that `numCompilerThreads` is not the magic performance switch people might expect from the name.
Still, they tweaked for high core number.
Mine is just 4; so i guessi i'll have additional overhead if i don't tweak manually.
I wonder if dxvk has no way to query how much cores the system have.
Where do you get that impression from? Please see the commit message https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/commit/cd00719122da89a8e654970b4aedd699d4fda8c6 [External Link]
DXVK detects the number of available cores and calculates the number of threads it wants to use (if not overwritten by above setting). The calculation has been tweaked a bit to use more cores when available and also give some air to CPU's with less cores.
Please bear in mind that this affect pipeline compilation from entries in the state cache only. This won't magically make your games much faster. Sticking with the default is really the best choice.

People should be thankful.
Reminds me of the worst German tabloid, "BILD". When I stumble upon a page there, it says you cannot read the page with an add blocker, and I always think, phew, that was close...!
Thanks a lot , that made my evening :D:D

Some of our most anticipated games for Linux in 2020

Nice overview. I have Commandos 2 HD Remaster and Starmancer on my radar.
(Furthermore, cough, I hope that Read Dead Redemption 2 becomes playable using Steam Play)

My top 5 Linux games released in 2019, those that truly won me over

Shadow of the Tomb Raider - my most anticipated game in 2019. It didn't disappoint.
Oxygen Not included.
Civilization VI: Gathering Storm (actually just a DLC)

(I haven't found time for "Life is Strange 2" and "Transport Fever 2", so can't yet comment on these)

Other games I played this year longer than just a few minutes were either older or fall into the Proton/Steam Play category.

The complete season of Life is Strange 2 is now available on Linux

In my library now, very cool. Thanks.
I could even withstand the steam winter-sale (if any for this edition, I haven't looked) and ordered from Feral's store ;)
