Life is Strange 2 releases for Linux on December 19

Quoting: GuestBuying games with Linux support and supporting Linux gaming is being a martyr? Buying Linux games is what Linux gamers do and should do, lol...but if you want to be a Windows gamer, have at it.

You're on the wrong website, though, because this is for Linux game news, not for Windows games. Go to pcgamer.com or something if you want Windows game news and don't care about Linux games.
Yeah, this is the correct attitude to get more people using Linux, excellent thinking! :)

Quoting: TheSHEEEPThis myth of the great downside of "unsupported" is just that, a myth.
It either works or doesn't. The case that it works but then something breaks it only for Proton is rare enough as to be irrelevant.
.. If you don't count in GTA V :)

There is something to say about support. For me personally I will wait for a Feral port if I know that is coming. I did so with Shadow of the Tom Raider and will do the same with Life is Strange 2.

Otherwise I fully agree with you, Proton works perfectly fine for me for everything else I want to play (with the exception of both RockStar games :)) and considering buying for Proton enters the books as Linux purchase, my conscience is clean.
Someone telling you, "Don't worry about the fact we're not giving you support for running this game on your OS, nor worry about the fact you just bought a Windows game and are helping out Windows gaming by doing so, because we're 'going it count it as a Linux sale', yeah, that's it!" and you buying it anyway because you're a gullible sheep is a good thing?

Wow, Microsoft's and Valve's propaganda has worked on some people here apparently, really sad to see. "Count as a Linux sale" is not at all what is happening when you're buying a Windows game and getting zero support for Linux in return. It's a hilarious lie, you're literally helping out Windows gaming and discouraging Linux gaming and support.

The fact you say your conscience is clean reveals it's not. Mine is actually clean because I support Linux gaming by supporting the actual developers who support Linux and help Linux gamers, not the ones who only support Microsoft Windows.
I'm happy for you that you want to play the martyr role until the bitter end, I prefer to live.

DXVK 1.5 released with D9VK merged in for D3D9 support, plus a statement on DXVK's future

Quoting: KuJoAt least if this comment is still valid on GitHub from December 10th. His statements he made to GOL now actually sound a little different.
I think people are just blowing what I said on Github (admittedly in frustration) WAY out of proportion.

Liam asked me to give the statement quoted in the article above today, just refer to that (and everyone, please stop annoying him via email about the whole thing).
Yeah, people and several news sites jumping way to fast to conclusions or even worth, just want to create a quick headline (hey phoronix :)).
Anyway, having DXVK in a state where it is actually feature complete is moment to celebrate, I don't get why people are getting worried that it is time for bug fixing only. My impressions is anyway that 95% of all reported issues are outside of the scope of DXVK and the remaining 5% are not worth the attention due to being weird corner cases.

Thanks a lot for all your hard work. The sames applies to Joshua and other supporters as well.
I humbly bow before your work! Please allow yourself some rest after all the countless hours.

NVIDIA presenting a talk at GTC 2020 about Linux drivers and possibly some open source news
7 Dec 2019 at 3:29 pm UTC Likes: 2

The outline of this upcoming session only says that it will contain an update on the "future plans and directions". This can be anything from "we announce an open rewrite of our Linux driver" to "we will keep the status quo because it works for us". While this talk will be certainly interesting I would be very careful to interpret to much into it before that talk has been held.

To be honest, sharing this outline as "sort of open-source driver announcement" like Phoronix did is just plain wrong in my opinion and will only lead to further freaking people out due believing in promises Nvidia never made. Other people blindly sharing this news on Reddit etc. will further emphasize this. I really don't like this kind of journalism.
Fortunately the headline and posting here at GoL is a bit more objective. Thanks!

Quoting: PatolaYou recommend playing a game for having no fun? Can you expand on this?
I'll quote my Steam review from almost 5 years ago:

This War of Mine is not a fun game. If you think games must be fun, walk away and pretend this doesn't exist.

TWM is a harrowing, depressing experience which puts you in a war torn city, with a small group of truly ordinary citizens. A math professor, a football player, a fireman, a thief, a gourmet chef...

One of the very first things you realize is you are not playing this to win. This is war and war is hell, there is no winning. You are simply trying to survive, to keep on going for one more day at a time, hoping for better times.

You start out in a heavily damaged house, with holes in the walls and barely any food or materials. Over time you try to improve your living conditions, by making beds, chairs, stoves etc. If you are lucky, maybe you can make some rain water collectors, or maybe even a moonshine distillery?

As the days pass and the war keeps raging on, resources become scarce and everyone, the military, militia and even ordinary citizens become more and more violent and depraved, all in the name of survival. Whereas you could trade a few gems for a ton of supplies in the early days, you could end up trading your shotgun for a few pieces of rat meat in the cold and unforgiving winter...

In a world where we are all too quick to dismiss the wars in the Middle East or Ukraine with "not my problem", turn down asylum seekers based on our prejudices of race, religion and ethnicity, This War of Mine provides us (especially the Western audience) with a fresh perspective and maybe even a lesson in humanity...
Thank you!

I completely agree. This game should be mandatory for everyone, especially in the time period we currently live in. Unfortunately people are very good at forgetting...

NVIDIA have released another Vulkan Beta Driver 435.27.07, just for Linux this time

Quoting: BeamboomI don't really understand all these title specific "fixes": The games are obviously all using the same graphics APIs, so isn't this essentially a bug on the application side?
I don't think the fix is specifically for the game. The way I see it is that Vulkan drivers are relatively new and so are the Vulkan compatibility tests. Both are still evolving through experience. Nvidia probably recognised quickly that DXVK provided a much bigger test bed than the slowly appearing native games, which is why several Nvidia devs are active in the issues list. Currently these games are probably hitting (valid) corner cases where the driver needs a slight adjustment or maybe even a clarification of the spec.
Yes, seems like a win for both parties. The same applies to AMD/Mesa drivers as well I guess. DXVK contributed massively for getting all Vulkan drivers to a next level.
