Quoting: CreakI think that a good question to ask as well is how different it is from Windows situation? It's still possible to disassemble any DLL or EXE file, modify it, recompile it, and here goes your cheating solution.Yes, I guess on Windows it is kind of doable to have a list of all drivers with their dll's and corresponding checksums, signatures or similar. But on Linux it is much more common to have a different kernel, and even more common to run e.g. Mesa from source. (Nvidia driver won't have that issue, but restrict Anti-Cheat to NVidia wouldn't be a cool thing)
Quoting: CreakSo how BattlEye and EAC can prevent that, do they require everyone to sign every file? If so, why not doing so on Linux as well? I mean, although restrictive, I would be fine with "if you want to play this game online, you need your official distributions drivers".Yes, this could be a consequence. But dunno if this is how this kind of software is supposed to work.

Nice to read that. I'm not into multiplayer games, certainly into the type of games where this is needed, but still very cool and I hope that this will get more users to switch to Linux.
I was wondering though, to my knowledge (I'm not at home in this domain) this kind of anti-cheat software mostly ensure that no one tampered with the game files, related libraries and game state in memory . If one wanted to cheat on Linux, wouldn't it be far easier to keep the game, libraries and Steam (Play) related files as is, but directly target the GPU drivers (kernel modules, mesa etc) and tinker there to lets say make things transparent in a game? Is there even a chance to detect something like this with anti-cheat software?

Quoting: BrisseOkay Joshua and Phillip, you realize you are f****ng heroes, right? I cannot thank you enough. ^_^I concur. Lets hope both still get enough sleep ;)
Easy Anti-Cheat is actually still supported for Linux, a statement from Epic Games

Quoting: liamdaweThanks for the article and also congrats for becoming a public person ;)Quoting: Creak@liamdawe The mere fact that you apologize for "jumping the gun" is a proof to me that you want to build a transparent and honest community, and I praise you for that. Indeed you now have way more influence than a few years back, so now you need to be careful with that new responsibility ;)Sadly I'm already seeing people using it to give me grief but oh well, live and learn.
Keep up the good work!
Easy Anti-Cheat are apparently "pausing" their Linux support, which could be a big problem (updated)

Quoting: liamdaweNothing personal at all don't know where you're getting that idea. I didn't even hint at it.Thanks for clarifying. I thought that I had read a tiny bit of disappointment that your earlier question had been initially ignored.
Quoting: liamdaweEdit: And honestly, it's better I get in early than let everyone get their info from YouTubers doing titles on their videos like "Epic, This Is INSANE… | Attacking Valve’s Project PROTON, KILLING Rust On Linux & Damaging Gaming" and yes that's an actual video title [External Link].Yeah, sure, I prefer your articles anytime over something like this. I get that timing is not that easy in your business.

Quoting: liamdaweThis sounds like your motivation to publish that soon was at least partially a tiny bit of a personal payback. I guess granting them a few business days to respond would have been a tiny bit more sensible. ;)Quoting: LeerdeckSo the only source is a comment from Garry Newman. Saw this article posted on /games with all the extra drama shitshow in the comments. I mean you could have wait for a actual response from EAC for confirmation before people lose their shit in the comment sections and post crazy conspiracy theories...It took EAC a long time to reply to me last time, I am hoping with this circling around they might be quicker and/or reassess Linux support if they actually were pausing it. There's many good reasons for getting info out early, I don't expect everyone to understand this right away.

Quoting: liamdaweBy now, I would hope people would have a little decorum and not get pitchforks out against people, as it doesn't help us.I love your optimism ;). I'm not that sure people will remember "innocent until proven guilty". May be on this site, but I have my doubts about others...

DXVK 1.1.1 is out with major features, acting as the re-release of 1.1 for Vulkan-based D3D11/10 in Wine

Quoting: TriasSo, do I understand correctly that we need a 418.52.05-beta driver, and those on 418.56 need to wait a bit despite having a higher version number? Maybe it's good to mention this in the article...Don't worry, I'm on 418.56 and DXVK 1.1.1 works just fine here. As far as I understand having VK_EXT_host_query_reset support will mostly give you some extra FPS in Unreal 4 game. Since I like to play Assetto Corsa Competizione, which is an Unreal 4 title, I'm eager to get the extra FPS. That said, even without VK_EXT_host_query_reset ACC already runs very well. There might be some games (Quake Champions according to the release notes) that may run slower without having this extension, but the games I own still run very well or even better with this newer version.

Quoting: GuestGood to see this re-release of DXVK 1.1, thanks :-) As a user of mesa-git on Arch I will benefit directly from this new version. But I wonder if Proton will integrate DXVK 1.1.1 then soon as well, I do hope so.You can pretty easily do that youself, just compile DXVK and copy the dll's into Proton (e.g. 64bit dll's into ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton 4.2/dist/lib64/wine/dxvk/ and 32bit dll's into ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton 4.2/dist/lib/wine/dxvk/).

Lets hope it wont take too long until VK_EXT_host_query_reset has found its way into a non-beta NVidia driver version. Unfortunately Negativo17 repositories for Fedora 30 offers only the stable drivers (for good reasons ;)) and I don't want to mess with my system with the NVidia installer.
