Quoting: Quote from scaineAnother steam-hater, eh? And why not. I was like that once.
Then I started using linux and realised that you didn't have to visit each driver-site to download their updates, one at a time as you did in Windows. You didn't have to visit each shareware site you downloaded each utility from to update to the latest version. You didn't have to visit getfirefox.com or whatever every couple of of weeks to see if there was new version. You just "apt-get upgrade" and off it went. Amazing.
Steam's like that for games. So now I have Desura, Steam and absolutely not a single locally installed game. Excellent.
+1

Quoting: Quote from n30p1r4t3I don't really see the benefit of this give the low spec of the Pi (don't get me wrong it's great). Unless this applies to all ARM processors, I don't expect much to change.
Most people use it to tinker, like building Robots [External Link] and such. Some use it as a Media Center [External Link] and others play Quake 3 [External Link]. But yeah, I wouldn't expect it to run Serious Sam 3 :P
Yeah and I have one to do just that; tinker. But gaming? Doesn't make much sense.

Quoting: Quote from DrMcCoyWow, this is the ugliest and stupidest thing I've ever seen and heard.
And I'm even not that hostile to gamepads in general; I've got a Logitech Dual Action I like to use for certain games...
Anything new can look stupid and ugly. I won't know what to think until I feel it in my hands.

You cant judge a book by its cover, eh?

I will definitely get one regardless of me buying a steam box.

How Does Left 4 Dead 2 Perform On Ubuntu 13.04 Compared To Windows 8?

Quoting: Quote from n30p1r4t3The only thing: When I (and it appears in the video I think) start l4d2 on that mission the entire time the helicopter is above it's very choppy. It happens in windows, but only slightly compared to Linux.

It's also weird that the FPS are higher in Linux when that happens. So it seems FPS isn't everything in the Linux performance equation.
Both videos are choppy despite fps being way over 24. I believe that the screen recording tool makes everything choppy.
Happens regardless of V-sync or Screen recording. I was talking about my experiences.

Valve Has Announced The SteamOS Built On Linux UPDATED

Quoting: Turn me
Quoting: QuoteThe SteamOS will probably be a minimal Ubuntu that launches Steam Linux in Big Picture, so the new functionalities would be added to Steam Linux, not to SteamOS specifically IMO.
Frankly, Steam hasn't been putting much work into Linux.  To me it seems a convenient reason for them to not work on it.
They're a gaming company. How much work do you expect them to do on the kernel? I believe their influence on companies like AMD and Nvidia to beef up their drivers is enough.

And someone's legitimate concerns can be interpreted as illegitimate ones. I agree that this poses no threat at all.
