The Wine team have released VKD3D version 1.1 of their Direct3D 12 to Vulkan translation library
6 Oct 2018 at 3:39 pm UTC

The pages were deleted in favor of categories, citing WP:INDISCRIMINATE as a reason, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_games_with_Vulkan_support [External Link] for more info.

But honestly, those lists weren't in great shape in the first place. I used to update the Vulkan list, trying to find reliable sources, but after I stopped there was little to no quality control afterwards – some game with only announced Vulkan renderer or open source ports of old games got removed before, but then some stayed or got added afterwards. Similar story to DX12 games.

Aside from Wikipedia, you can search PCGamingWiki by properties: Vulkan [External Link], Direct3D [External Link] – they are far from being complete, but you the info is easy to add to appropriate pages.

Planetary Annihilation development set to continue with the creation of a new company
18 Aug 2018 at 1:12 am UTC

Quoting: Colombocan anyone give me background to what was going there? Why they had to make a new company?
I don't know what the background is, but the Uber Entertainment had a rough time when they decided to close off their Uberent framework due to GDPR, which resulted in two games being closed – their SuperMNC and 3rd party Loadout, so it might be somewhat related.

Still, good to know that Planetary Annihilation is going on just fine.

Mesa 17.3.0 released to further advance open source graphics drivers

Quoting: Lolo01I've dropped my GTX970 for a RX570. I've got improved performances in some games with less powerful GPU.
I bet all my games will run better in a few months.
Haha, I wasn't so brave, but just today I changed my GTX960 4G for RX580 8G (got the 960 as a replacement for dying 650Ti for a wife, also on Linux). It really boost my (already high in the first place) confidence of a good decision by taking an AMD card instead of going for (cheaper, miners… :() NVIDIA :). Plus if the Freesync lands in the kernel drivers sooner than later (which I think is the case), it will be a really nice bonus if I ever want to upgrade my monitor :P.

Steam now has a form of platform-specific wishlisting, to help developers see demand

Remember that if you are worried about friends buying you a gift that's Windows only, it is possible to not accept it and it should be returned. But I know, it's flawed and I see another flaws people mentioned here. It's a good sign, but I really hope it will be improved! Right now I set my preferences to Linux only (had all the platforms before), and re-added a few key games there anyway, glad Valve are at least trying!

Quoting: De1m0sI did not knew, there's a 2.21 staging; on their news page, 2.19 is the last version.
Is there a change-log somewhere from this version?
For some reason, they didn't update their site for the two last releases of wine-staging, but you can see the latest releases marked on their github [External Link] where you can also check what each commit did [External Link] (no overall changelog though)

Valve has added 11 new currencies to the Steam Store
14 Nov 2017 at 1:22 pm UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: hardpenguinSome games are not available for purchase at all in new currency regions due to the change. I hope this will be fixed soon!
Yes. The problem is that the developers have to set the prices themselves. While it will hopefully get ironed out, it will prove troublesome for games that no longer get active care from developer/publisher.

Wine 2.21 is out with Direct 3D indirect draws support, also fixes for The Witcher 3 and NieR:Automata
11 Nov 2017 at 8:25 pm UTC

Quoting: wojtek88How does the NieR: Automata perform like? In Wine DB I can see it's silver. Does anyone managed to play the game?
Didn't look at the report and I don't even have Nier, but anything over garbage should mean that it's at least playable at least after workaround (though not everything may work/be tested and glitches and heavy performance issues can exist)

A new Steam Client Beta fixes Linux desktop and menu shortcuts, adds pre-compiled GPU shaders for Vulkan
8 Nov 2017 at 8:47 pm UTC

Quoting: linuxjacquesHave the fixed the "remember password" bug yet?

It's been like six months and I've stopped checking.
Here's me again thinking it's on my side lol. Steam sometimes remember my credential, sometimes not and sometimes forgets my entire username, but I also recently had some problems with my filesystem corrupting files, so I thought it was due to that. Glad to know it might not be that, though.

Quoting: CAPTNCAPSCan we have them fix Steam cancelling System shutdown?
Super annoying to have to click shutdown twice, because clicking the first time only closes Steam >_>
And I was wondering what was wrong with my wife's OS that we had to click the XFCE's shutdown button twice to shut the system down while I didn't had this issue (I'm typing "shutdown now" to close or "reboot" to reboot the system, as Pependos does. Thanks for letting us know the culprit!

Now, one can probably only dream about a 64-bit client as well, I guess? Today steam-native stopped working for my wife after update due to lack of another 32-bit library (lib32-libvdpau) missing – I guess the package wouldn't be needed if the client were 64-bit as it wasn't installed lol. That and obvious other 64-bit advantages such as not needing multilib for non-wine users and some potential performance benefits.

Also, it would be nice if they finally change the skinning engine to use native skin – while acceptable for normal desktop environment, on my i3 tiling manager, Steam is the only application that still have the minimize/maximize/close buttons that are out of reach if Steam screen is only taking half the space and it doesn't have a keybinding to close either, making me need to maximize it before closing lol.
