The Linux-powered Atari VCS is getting upgraded to AMD Ryzen, shipping dates pushed back

Quoting: DuncI'd almost forgotten about this. That said, the Christmas period is the right time to release something like it, so I wouldn't have expected to see anything until Q4 or late Q3 anyway, and this does look like a reasonable upgrade; the main complaint about the original spec was that it just didn't look powerful enough.

Wait and see. As before.
If they change it now, I don't expect them to release this year.
The Smach Z team had to design the core board themselves due to rhomb.io.
They are at it since late 2017. They now have working small series which need another iteration to squash the defects that were emitted by some of the units.
So that's about 1.5 years from a total new design of a cpu board before the now expected delivery to the crowd funder.

And you are right, the main reason I did not fund the Atari at that time, was that it came with an old soc, while the Smach Z was announced with a new soc.

Quoting: tonRI hope VCS really been launched or Linux especially Linux gaming will get bad reputation.

Seriously, I didn't want "Linux" word being synonymous as the word "scam". No thanks to lots of not-so-convincing crowdfunding program.
Mostly due to crowds screaming Scam, or worse, crying wolf when there is a kitten.
There are a lot of fake crowdfundings, and it promises everything, and never starting anything. They are easily spotted though.
There are also a few crowdfunding programs that get severely damaged by the Scam crowd, a crowd of teenagers that needs to scream at everything that the leader of the herd says to scream at. Actually, this can be found not only at crowdfunding.
So, personally, I don't think it would hurt the Linux "brand", until the leader of the herd will point at Linux as a scam. And no point in telling that leader that 1/2 his household runs linux, because the herd only listens to the leader.
Actually, when you think about it, it's a very very interesting scientific study, mod/crowd psychology. Especially since the crowd is now connected by internet instead of being in a small space.
Sorry, psychology, how absurd it may sound, was my second interest after electronics (Computers were essentially non existent, as the one computer we had at school filled a small classroom). Electronics obviously has been largely replaced by computing, especially since it was obvious that I would never understand antennas, and computer science classes: I did that literally sleeping.

Nice, during the kickstarter I already had to many funds spend on the WIN2 (still needs a better cooling and better batteries), and the SMach Z. So maybe I can still step in and get a decent linux box.

Valve making steps to address 'off-topic review bombs' on Steam
17 Mar 2019 at 10:48 pm UTC Likes: 1

Finally some action against those fake reviews. Or those reviewers that have 0.5 hours on record... Why are they even allowed to review...
Since it is now up to the viewers, I want to have a filter that can filter out minimal playtime for instance. Or more statistics, like how many down and ups per week, so we can easily see if there was a shitstorm of people blindly echoing eachother not really knowing why they are doing it, just to be herding.
But personally, if a game has a negative score, I usually ignore it, and try to determine myself if I would like a game.
I have never regretted buying a game that has a bad score.

A Linux beta of X4: Foundations is due in 'the next few days' (update: it's up)

Quoting: peta77P.S. I don't understand why everyone (or at least many people) hated X-Rebirth... I'm relatively new to the X-Series and X-Rebirth gave me a wonderful introduction to the whole thing, being able to actually play it. X3 was kind of a small desaster in that respect (when being able to play a game needs to look for tutorials on the web and watch a couple of introductory videos, I don't think that's something to be called user-friendly)
Ah, thanks for that insight!
I own X2, X3 the limited edition version (signed by the porter, and a shirt tucked in in an X) since they came out. I rebought those versions on steam, and then could actually play them because egosoft redid the ports correctly. But it's such an immense universe, I have to page out a lot of other games for a year, just to be able to play and control these series :-(.
So I never have.
Should start with rebirth then :-).

Valve is getting back to focusing on gaming, with non-gaming videos being retired

I did buy a few series. I am waiting for their player to make it easy to see what you have watched, and what is the next episode. Currently I can't, so the series are collecting dust.
Currently all I can see is 20 times the same icon, and the beginning of the series title. So yeah, 20 times the same. Actually more times the same. No grouping or other obvious things.
If the library was not such a joke I would have bought a lot of series a long time ago.

Unique steampunk survival game Volcanoids has erupted into Early Access

Quoting: DMGWhat exactly is goal in this game?
To me, the goal of any openworld "survival" game is to extend my stay as long as possible.
For fortresscraft evolved thats 1500 hours on my first world that I started in 2015, and that I am still busy building in, with some hiatus spend on other (openworld) games and playing with my dj sets on linux.

X4: Foundations to come to Linux with one of the next major updates

Pfff, the X series seems so incredibly cool to play, so that's why I have all the linux versions.
Just to play them...
I really must sit down and try it some time...
The biggest space game I've ever playes was freespace 2. But that was awesome.
(not counting no man's sky as a space game)

Steam Play versus Linux Version, a little performance comparison and more thoughts

I think this actually supports what I was saying: stop linux opengl ports, but do a windows vulkan port instead on the common engines. And then export to linux.
So what I am saying: vulkan first, linux next.
Despite what I just said, I do welcome every linux port. I'd rather play a bad opengl port than native vulkan still using proton. But for the developers concentrating on vulkan might be better, especially since you can expect a lot of hate from some of the 31337 uberhacker linux users when the opengl port is sub par.
