The 'GPD Win 2' could be an interesting device for Linux gaming on the go

Quoting: RTherenI wonder if SteamOS would run on that thing
I run ubuntu 17.10 with steam on the GPD WIN, which was a much bigger challenge due to the bad linux support from intel for their CE stuff. Although this is not a big of CE as the CE5315 was, which is even less of a PC, and has even worse support.
Hans de Goede fixed a lot of stuff.
For the GPD WIN I need to run the latest and greatest kernel for things to work. I also needed to downgrade the bios on the win using windows, which I wiped after it started complaining about an illegal version of windows 10.
As the M3-7Y30 is better supported, steamos might work almost out of the box.

Don't be fooled by the M.2, it is M.2 2242 (not 2280), of which the biggest size is 256GB for at least 200 euro :-).

Anyway: twice the memory, SSD instead of a slow eMMC (I would have settled with UFS though), a normal CPU instead of an atom (don't count the GHz, atoms are much slower with comparible clocks).
A reasonable heat management instead of the piss poor one of the GPD win..
A Galaxy Note 8 will still be faster and has a much better heat management, but it doesn't run a normal linux environment with vulken and gles.
I wonder how good qemu (or exagear) would work with vulkan pass through on a note 8 :-).

Opus Magnum is an exceptional puzzle game available for Linux

Wait... They are doing curation at GoG? I thought all that matters was no DRM and it has to be old. I mean, there is a load of crap at GoG, just like on Steam. And Opus Magnum is no crap. It reminds me of SpaceChem. And yes, TIS-100 is cool. I'd just wish it was a bit more intelligent like a full blown transputer emulator. Who doesn't remember the T800 and T414... Man... If I read the wikipedia article it feels as such a loss that I never was able to afford a T800.
Just like missing out on the intel 8089... But I digress..

The Talos Principle updated with Vulkan improvements, OpenGL fixes and more, plus some benchmarks

Quoting: rkfg(...) but I use The Jaw Metric. If my jaw drops after looking at the screenshots, it's AAA.
This and "WTFs/min" should be web-standards!
You can't have any WTF's/min if you don't have that code review...

Quoting: LeopardBut because of the high Windows 7 usage ; devs cannot move forward to Dx12 with ditching other api's. But on Vulkan , they can.

It is not limited to Win10 , despite Dx12 is.
I am really glad with the influx of chinese games in steam right now...
That has put the installed base of Win10 quite a bit back...
So vulkan is now a very very good target.
You need DX12 if you want to do Xbox, but I've heard that Dx12 for xbox is totally different from Dx12 for win10.

Need to relax? Guppy is a simple game about trying to survive as a fish

If you are a guppy, isn't so big you can't remember where you have been?

Turns out Linux market share on Steam did not go back up in December

Quoting: rat2000Isn't the methodology the survey that we participate at random times? I think it just checks then the OS Steam is running on and that's it.
According to the last survey timestamps I've had a survey a few times, but I don't even know how it looks like. Although I vaguely remember something during the winex/cedega period.

My surveydate on my steam machine was 2017-07-05, which of course is a lie...

Drawful 2 is another party game from Jackbox Games that has a Linux beta

Oh nice... I loved you don't know jack... I had it on my Ouya(!) and it is I think the only game I like to play with other people that happen to be in the same room.
It was a hit and miss due to the android jackbox controller client not being able to find the game. But these days multicast should just work.

ARK: Survival Evolved works again on Linux, water still broken on some maps
19 Dec 2017 at 1:44 pm UTC

Quoting: m0nt3It is slightly better one mesa now. As long as you dont look at the water it renders correctly, the water render correctly on "The Island" however it will give off a large white blob.
The lastest patch has a fix for those issues according to the release log...
Haven't tried it since...
Edit: sorry, I read white flash... I have no idea how it works on mesa... I have to upgrade my desktop pc for that.

Speculation: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive might be getting a PUBG-like mode

Quoting: abelthorneAnd the survival aspect overall: unlike a classic deathmatch game like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament, you don't respawn in PUBG; when you die, it's over. So, there's more tension, more stress, more strategy, more skill involved. And more luck, unfortunately.
Are you kidding? Unreal Tournament was all about Last-man-standing (to me).
To be clear: I never liked deathmatch, as that was about who got the most kills. Last man standing needs brains and stealth, and a good hideout 8-D. LMS+Low Grav... No instagib.
If you see me, my tag is DirtyCamper 8-D.

Quoting: GuestI've seen the name about, but have no idea what this pubg thing is. That's probably a comment about complete lack of interest if it's not available on GNU/Linux.
PUBG is the reason why linux only accounts for 0.2% of the platforms in use on steam.
Chinese people playing PUBG on windows 7 to be exact.
