Close-combat FPS 'Return to Planet X' is now on Linux, it's actually not bad at all
20 Oct 2017 at 3:34 pm UTC

I wanted to say the assets looks a lot like alone in space. But then again, it's the same developer :-). I hope it has the same wall decorations :-).

Crazy cyberpunk horror game 'observer' is coming to Linux on October 24th

You mean the livestreaming of buying and installing observer?

The Linux version of Beyond Enemy Lines is being held up by Unreal Engine 4 bugs
19 Oct 2017 at 8:24 am UTC

Ah... The same key input bugs we probably have in Ark...
I didn't notice until they bound some keys to the keypad and other "special" areas, for things like taking a shit. I had to rebind that to a normal key, and bind that to a key on the steam controller.

Here's a way to fix the broken water in ARK: Survival Evolved on Linux
14 Oct 2017 at 9:30 am UTC

That Jat responded was a month ago and that loki42 did his magic was also more than 2 weeks ago.
If I knew that that many people needed to hear it outside the ark and steam forums I would have echo-ed it.
Personally I quit all steam forums about ark, except the linux bug track, and I only read ark forums a tiny bit. The original forums are a bit less salty. Endless tirades of "I bought this game in 2015 for less than $20 and I had at least 2000 hours fun with it, but because you have nerfed/bugged/bugsolved something I have to do things in another way and I now demand all my money back and I will sue your asses off", ok, slightly reworded, because I think that **** and ***** swear words. Oh, and don't forget that almost everybody is a better programmer :-).
I do want to try to install the windows version (using steamcmd), and try swapping assets... Not sure if that is possible.
And I need to free 200GB of diskspace for that...
If we get some limited/password beta test channel that gets a build that reports missing asset bugs and things like that, it might actually help them and us both out.

What have you been playing and what do you think?

Quoting: soulsourceWould you be so nice as to elaborate? I haven't bought ARK (yet), as the ugly water was kind of a show stopper to me. Is the water fixed by a developer's patch, or does one have to fix stuff manually?
The fix was of a guy that started replacing assets from the center into the island. It fixes all maps that use island assets, like ragnarok.
It really looks good again. And playing with assets might be a way to figure out what's going on.
If you haven't bought ark yet, you might have to hold off a bit longer yet, or only buy it during discount. It still is not $60 worth, although the game itself is great. Otoh: you can buy it, but be prepared that it still is not 100% good. If you do not have nvidia, certainly for now do not buy it.
To be clear: the only thing I want to prevent is you feeling cheated out of your money and become the next salty forum member ;-).
The game to me is great. The opaque water was bad, really bad, but I still continued, since I already loved the game. The water is water again with the for now hand fix, have to check to see if they fixed it upstream, which they promised.

I fear I only play ARK, which looks beautiful again since somebody found out how to fix the missing water asset.

I am waiting for the new fortresscraft release which should have an automation item I need to continue my game.

Funny: fortresscraft evolved and ark survival have always been my main time consumers. In both I play a world that I started in 2015.
In the mean time I did play saints row, but these 2 games demand creativity... building effort. I like that.

The latest Steam Hardware Survey shows Linux market-share has declined again
3 Oct 2017 at 8:28 am UTC

I bought a GPD WIN to run linux. As it comes pre-installed with windows (you need it to downgrade the BIOS to be able to use features like OTG which is not at all supported on windows), I gave it a try. Even installed steam.
My conclusion: even with a disconnected system like the gpd win it managed to fuck up the steam settings on my steam machine (I lost every steam controller setting that I did not export).
To install gta IV I had to jump through more hoops than wine on linux.
To install gta SA I even had to jump through even more hoops.
Then this constant nagging of that I have to activate it, and when I try that it says I need to buy a license...
I forgot what an easy life it is, living in a GNU world.
I do feel sorry that I even considered trying steam. But fortunately I did not get to participate in the steam hardware survey. If it did I would be rather sour, as I have not participated ever since I started using steam native on linux.
Anyway: off with that crap. I can't believe windows can actually be functional to some people.

According to netmarketshare Linux hit 6.91% market share last month, higher than Mac

To be clear: the stats are from sites that have embedded the stat counters of these sites.
It just might be that a few more linux friendly sites have just added these counters :-)

Quoting: pbAre Chromebooks even available in Europe? Maybe in some of the western countries, but certainly not where I live.
MediaMarkt NL has 15 chromebooks on their website, out of 313 laptops in total. But yeah, about as 'western' as you can get.
I've bought my last chromeos devices from chromeit.
My very first from amazon.uk, since I have a preference for arm, and arm is pretty fast without any heat production, unlike intel.
I now have 4 samsung chromebooks (exynos 5250 2x, 1x exynos 5430, and 1x rockchip) and one asus intel i3 chromebox. Anything with intel atom is just a waste of money and power.
I also have a GPD Win, on the verge of having windows 10 completely wiped (needed it to downgrade, played with it for a week, hit a wall, almost killed someone... A nice reminder of why I never ever want to do something with windows again).

Anyway: The nicest thing is that Mac is keeping stable, while windows lost big time.
What happened these last 2 months? Steam machine? What?

Edit: The august figures have already been checked, so those are already correct. They check the figures of last month in the beginning of the month.

Quoting: inlinuxdudeIt gives one hope that their Linux/SteamOS push may indeed not be over yet!
If you only subscribe to the bugtracking of steam on linux you know they are working hard...
And I mean very hard.
And you can find the valve people communicating on irc with linux vive developers.
Valve really is involved with linux. You just have to approach the developer side, not the consumer side.
I think just like Samsung, the R&D budget of valve >>> PR budget. Any cut they take from a sale, a part of it is going to linux development.
But to be clear: their goal is to get the ultimate free gaming platform. Not make it run on linux because it is cool. The fact that they choose linux is because you can develop and shape it's future. Make it work. Not like other platforms that you have to fix all your incompatibilities because some ass decided to close down some api's to hide bugs in other software they create.
(I am not going to mention UNC paths and word...)
