Ah, I nice showcase of how much better vulkan is according to Epic:

Actually they don't show anything really, but they do say some important stuff, like with vulkan you can keep everything in the gpu.

I have it, but then I realized I need friends to play it with.
And the first 2 or 3 years it would not even start on my pc.
So I've taken a plunge and walked through it. And that's it.
The time has come that I can choose not to buy multiplayer-only games.

My T760 is hardware capable of conforming to mali, but without drivers no mali. Maybe that's the reason the gear vr sucks on this note 4 compared to the S8+.
But yeah: https://www.khronos.org/conformance/adopters/conformant-products [External Link]
those are a lot of vulkan conformant products, but since GLES is already lowlevel, UE4 will probably use GLES.

Quoting: Ardjethe T-Mali series should be vulkan capable, but I fear it's just a lack of drivers.Meeh... it's a definitive should, but android never got that vulkan upgrade.
To be clear: all samsung t-mali based phones from 2014 are/should be vulkan capable due to having the correct drivers.

Quoting: LeopardBecause not every users gpu's are Vulkan capable. For example ; even some cards on Amd supports OpenGL 4.x but they're not compatible with Vulkan. Being only Vulkan games means they will be outcasted. That's not really true. You are confusing vulkan capable with having drivers conforming to the vulkan API. Vulkan is lowlevel, the driver should give enough handles to be able to use the hardware. the T-Mali series should be vulkan capable, but I fear it's just a lack of drivers.

But every company will tackle the support in their own way with OpenGL.
So what's fast on bugfree on NVidia will be terrible, slow and buggy on AMD and vv, using the same API.
OpenGL is too high end, needs a lot of state trackers, and all you want is do some things very fast.
It's like wasm... It's a reduced use of javascript of which is known that it will result in certain intermediary code, making it a kind of assembly. But it's just a hack on the lack of a low level VM in the browser. So it doesn't always work on all browsers, and the real web assembly is still lagging in functionality because you have no access to the page.
So what I am trying to say, is that while opengl might be nice to program in for small programs, but gles v2 and higher and vulkan have not been developed for nothing.
gles v2 describes a low level engine, you are responsible for maintaining the high level parts. So in that respect, vulkan and gles have a lot in commmon.
You can probably still create an opengl wrapper around vulkan. But what game makers are trying to do is create a vulkan wrapper around opengl for the speed.

Quoting: GuestThose "half assed implementation of OpenGL" (drivers and/or engines) is the reason why we need Vulkan. It actually isn't half assed.

which I would expected to be so much higher than Liam. But all in all, it doesn't sound like liam has a fulltime income from patreon, even though he seems like doing nothing else.
Liam does have a very positive outcome it seems, unless more people posted icculus' tweet.

Valve limit key requests from developers if it isn't "worth the cost"

So Valve is free up to certain reasonable limits. You may use them, even for sales outside of the steam store, but if you try to abuse them they now say enough is enough.
Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
Fair use is fair use, especially to all other developers using the steam platform.
On another note: free games are not a form of abuse. A form of abuse is to abuse steam for updates, and sell your game in other ways, without ever giving Valve a fair share.
So yes a free game does cost Valve, but it's in the spirit of Valve to allow that.
So all in all, I think Valve is still one of the best and trustworthy open platforms to release games.

ARK: Survival Evolved updated with the latest 'Unreal Rendering code', still terrible on Linux

These days keyboard input is a mess on any OS.
Ever tried french or belgian keyboard layouts on whatever os? Especially if you are used to en_US. And what about dead keys? Repeated keys?
Now add to that, that on linux it's the same, only you have different layers to choose from.
Raw key codes? Decoded key codes? where are you going to get them? Which code table are you goint to use?
So yes, keyboard input is a mess.
On linux it might be even more of a mess though.

Quoting: rkfgIt's ridiculous how many games have this and other keyboard input or Unicode issues, even those with a long Linux support history.Keyboard input issues started the moment USB was meant to have a keycode database inside the device, and nobody used it.

I just want to know where I can find the cache...

Quoting: evergreenYesterday I played about 3 hours with my son on Ark. We have both (me on pc and my son on his laptop, both latest Nvidia 384.59 drivers) no problems, except the annoying grey water and me some red light shadows on the right screen side.Ok, I can try because I have 381.22 (official steamos ;-) ).
But I have to say the graphic has been improved, not so much as on windows, but I saw a nicer Sky and better textures on long distances. It's worth to try it.
