Guys, I am having trouble with the term indie and AAA.
Of indie I know they are not sponsored by a big publisher. Does that mean that AAA is sponsored by a big publisher? As I cannot really see any other difference. And since AAA and indie seems like mutually exclusive in about any argumentation the only difference is where the money comes from.
So you know what: I don't care about AAA or indie. It's certainly not about eye candy or playability.

I love Rutger. Ever since I've seen "turks fruit" and "soldaat van oranje" and "spetters". Never seen "floris" though. I wasn't born then.

Steam Link is evolving.
Valve has always been very vocal about that they want to let others integrate steam link into their hardware. It was not about the link, it was about the ability to have a relatively open streaming platform.

Quoting: MohandevirPersonally, I use that:

It comes at the cost of automated updates and driver meddling but I find it a lot easier to hack and more versatile than SteamOS. Just my personal preference.
I have both a steam machine with original steamos, and several debian systems.
Steamos as a platform is targeted at end user on the couch, as there is no such thing as a desktop.
Well, there is, if you start editing the .xsessionrc. Other than that, steamos is pure to run steam big picture.
Kinda like chromeos is only to run chrome, except that steamos is open and chromeos is pretty much locked down.

It’s now 2017, and Valve hasn’t released a proper new game or IP in a very long time.
Really? No "IP".... what about the Oculus Rift (Orignally a copy of the Steam Sight), htc vive (we know that), steam controller (in house). The force behind vulkan?
/me shouldn't have read the article.

Quoting: eloI do see your point of view though - and on a huge popular server I'd go mad myself, but the GoL server is chill so far for the most part :)
I was just walking around in the server, me, being my naked me. And suddenly I saw a creep with a bow and arrow...
I run...
Kept that creep looking... Never seen a naked guy before ;-).
(Yeah, this is the first time in a long time I played online :-) ).

Valve is one of those tiny companies you can actually irc with one of the (many) developers online. They are serious, and they care.
Even the link has special care of the main link developers.
Valve is about the only company that has a real personal touch with developers and "endusers". I am a big fan of Samsung, but I have yet to find a way to reach developers to file bug reports.
(Samsung is also big in a lot of opensource projects)

Quoting: elmapul" It keeps Microsoft from going full retard with the Windows Store UWP program."
you're missing the point here...
The moment Valve announced the steamos programm, is the moment Microsoft started to take a look at DX again, and finally updating it.
There was a 1:1 relation between Valve's announcement and Microsoft starting to work on their OS again.
I do think Valve is capable of kicking out SteamOS iff something better and open comes along, as they have clearly shown they are a tech company with a core focus of better gaming.
They threw out the man years of augmented reality research, and sold it to the head researcher for $100, who could then continue it in her own company.
I do not think something better than SteamOS comes along... SteamOS with wayland is still SteamOS.

Quoting: Beamboom... But do the controller really receive frequent updates? Then I wonder if something is wrong for me cause I've not seen a single update since I got it just before Xmas last year?
The controller firmware is pretty stable... I think the last update for the controllers themselves was april or june 2016.
Now the middleware to make those controllers function... Either in the steam client or the steam link. They change about every month.

Quoting: Asugot my first survey on my linux! hooray! Gaben always finds me when I'm on my mac lol...
There is a bug report on github of someone getting it on linux and making steam crash.
I was very inclined to reply it was a hoax ;-).

I don't like multiplayer games, which is the main reason I postponed buying rust (as I have several sandbox games that I like, including Ark ;-) ).
But I am a sucker for eye candy too... So I think I will be testing ideal payment on big picture using this.
But currently Ark (for now) and later on FCE (when the mass storage limiter enters) suck up all my time.
