My goodness! This is pleasant news for me and my brother. I've been playing Tropico 1 through Wine for some time now and my bro likes Tropico 4. Double plus good!

Hammerwatch hack and slash action adventure Now Out For Linux

Ahh my old nemesis Mono, we meet again. Seems my Arcane explosions failed to relieve you of your life on our last encounter. This time I'll wrap my hands around your soulless code and devour your life until you wither like leaves in the fall. And nevermore will you cause unhappiness to Tux.

P.S. It's a fun game regardless.

Starbound Has Had A Lot Of Updates Recently

Quoting: SuperuserHonestly, I think the game has great ideas behind it, but I've just HAD it with pixel graphics! I didn't grow up with them, I grew up on the N64 and PS1 and I feel no nostalgia whatsoever - all I see are ugly graphics. Isn't it time to move on already. It feels like game art is moving backwards rather than forwards at this point. :><:
I DID grow up with them, and I don't like reliving the experience. Don't get me wrong though, Pixels or not, some of these games are really fun and I do enjoy the fun ones. I think for a lot of the indie studios, pixel art happens when it just costs too much to hire graphics artists, and I respect that. I respect Indies for their games and most importantly, their Linux support.

I believe also, as these Indie devs grow their studios, the Graphics will get better. That's why we need to support them, more support means more Linux games and better graphics in the future when they get enough to hire graphic artists.

Edit: Doing it just to be following a trend even when an artist is on-hand -- yeah that bothers me sometimes. But I'm sure they have their reasons, especially if it's a smaller Indie Studio.

Will gog.com Ever Support Linux On Its Store?

This is probably buried too deep in the thread, but wanted to give a heads up about something. Portable Linux games [External Link] has quite a few Games they packaged that don't need to be installed. Some even have Wine linked in if it's not a native Game. Just thought I would share.

Quoting: Mike FrettIt's not like we are asking for ALL of the Games. They could start with a dozen or so of the popular titles and then do Linux ports of any future releases. Maybe even have a poll to vote on any future releases, right?. ;)

Neverwinter Nights would be a good 1st title I think.
Does that exist in its entirety on Linux? I bought it before making the full switch to Linux so that would most certainly be a good choice, GOG!
BioWare released a port around 2003. There are some installers [External Link] around but I've never been able to install it without errors on Linux. So I would definitely enjoy a working port.

Damn it Jim! He's not a writer! :P Dr. McCoy was my favorite Star Trek character. Things seem to be picking up again at the Humble Bundle eh, perhaps they're listening to us.

Deep SIlver's AAA games could come to linux

By the way n30p1r4t3, hope you wasn't offended by my reply, as I didn't aim it directly at you as much as being a general post. Even though we obviously disagree, hope we can still be friends :D Incidentally, to answer you n30p1r4t3, Skype was on Linux before Microsoft bought them, at this point it's just a continuation. If Skype had not already had code written for Linux, I seriously doubt Microsoft would have made a native version and since it's Proprietary Software, they can end it anytime they want. Also, Microsoft's contributions to the Linux Kernel were for their own benefit, their customers needed Hyper-V support. They were also forced to do so due to GPL violations [External Link].

No disrespect but I think recent indicators are strong that Secure Boot was self-serving [External Link], hackers cracking and using it to their benefit has been done already [External Link]. Their were also some Laptops that were bricked [External Link]. And some people have issues installing and running Linux even when it's disabled.

Now I personally wouldn't use Skype since it also has known back-doors [External Link] and even specific Malware [External Link] that mines bitcoins. But their aren't many other options for such a program on Linux. There are, Jitsi, Ekiga, Lin Phone; but both parties need the software installed. It's something that you would want to do and not something that you need to do.

As for the NSA, yes we are at risk no matter what and a larger risk for Companies wanting to protect their Source Code because the NSA admitted they intercepted US based servers of various entities and were in possession of their data. But Microsoft willingly [External Link] cooperated with the NSA to let them place a Back-door in the Software. This isn't some program that collects data coming through some servers, this is a Trojan built directly into the OS. Would you let a Hacker put a Trojan on your PC? It's the same thing, except the NSA doesn't want your Credit Card, they want to make sure we're good Government sheeple.

I should have mentioned also, my brother is a Linux only Gamer too. Any way, it's nice to see I'm not alone and hope to see more ports and native games [External Link] for us all. And I agree that Wine isn't a solution [External Link], it's actually more of a problem and hinders native development, I wouldn't mind at all if it didn't exist. I've also converted a dozen or so friends and family members to Linux exclusively in my spare time. Yes, some of them are Gamers, like my brother, but they made a choice to not use Microsoft anymore. It's all about choice in the end.

I guess I'll finish all this out by quoting one of the Microsoft Developers [External Link]: "For every developer that Microsoft can put to task, the community behind Linux can find dozens. That's the power of open source, and there's nothing that Microsoft or any other company can do to stop it". I should have posted a warning first, when I start on topics like this it's hard to end, I could probably write a book. :P It's all good though and I hope nobody was offended, seeing the place I said it was a site with Linux in the name. That would be weird.

Quoting: Mike FrettWhat in the world...am I the only Linux users in the world that uses Linux as my only OS?. :(
Some people have to use windows for work, word, etc. Also, Linux doesn't support all the games I want to play. So windows is a must.
I used Windows for 15 years. It's understandable for Work, but I don't feel a Game is worth losing my rights and privacy over. Call me crazy, I just don't think I could knowing use an OS with a backdoor built-in for the NSA or see myself giving money to a company who seeks to destroy Linux by funnelling money to people like SCO and forcing OEMs to place features in Hardware like 'Secure Boot' with sole intentions of impeding installations of alternative software.

Some people I know dual boot, yet spend 90% of their time in Windows. I think people like that should probably just use Windows since it's obvious they have no interest in Linux. I wonder what all those people will do when Microsoft goes belly-up and they lose their crutch, no company lasts forever. I have Games I want to play too, but I value the lives of the men and women who died for the rights that would be stripped from me if I used Windows for a Video Game.

It's not really my opinion, but as individuals we all have different views of the facts. Sometimes it leads us down the wrong path and one day we wake up with less freedoms because of our choices. Like I've always said though, I'll never understand people that use Windows. ^_^

Incidentally, we've heard this same rhetoric from THQ and Blizzard also and nothing has come from it. "I'll believe it when I see it" is a phrase that come to mind, otherwise I ignore them and their Games.
