Egosoft to launch X4: Foundations on November 30th, hopefully with a Linux beta build

Quoting: ArehandoroI was always interested in X3 but never gave the leap to try, mainly afraid of its vast content. Perhaps X4 could be the one this time.
What the X titles truly need is a guided campaign indeed so that we familiarize oursleves with their mechanics.
The games are great and all but they are bit too hands free in their approach.

Quoting: GuestToo bad the system requirements are pretty steep.... It requires a supercomputer to run. A Haswell quad core, 8gb ram, and an Nvidia GTX 970 (!!!!) as MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.... Seriously? A freaking 970 is considered "minimum"? And to think it is Vulkan-only... Imagine if it was D3D11/OpenGL....
Just like other titles in the X series it's gonna be a long time seller then their engine will be kept and improved over time , just like totalwar games those titles are playing long haul both in terms of gameplay and in terms of sales , so those requirements don't surprise me too much.

When X-Rebirth got released it asked for a GT600 ... in november 2013 ... (so for GPU's that were barely a year old )

Quoting: melkemindI had no idea it was releasing so soon. This should be interesting.
Egosoft are kind of the great specialist of the surprise ninja smoke bomb. So I'm surprised as well that X4 will come so soon after their announcement but on the other hand they probably have been working on it since X-Rebirth released and was massively paned for all kinds of departures.

Lots of people liked the new direction good ideas , and dislike a lot of things (like being stuck on a single ship) .

I didn't play it myself but I have a friend who enjoys those titles and Rebirth was not a "divisive" sequel much more a "Hey I like the new things you're trying to do , but I hate that you want to take away the old toys in exchange."

TL : DR with the feedback on X-Rebirth being less than stellar they probably have been hammerin' this new game since December 2013 .. soo it's not that soon actually ;)

Life is Strange 2 confirmed to be coming to Linux in 2019 from Feral Interactive

Quoting: Comandante Ñoñardohmm.. If that is accurate, then January 2019 (in the last days of the Steam Xmas sales) will be a good release date...
More after than that isn't OK...
I mean, with Deus Ex MD, they did a good job with the release date: Just one month after the windows release..It seems, then, They worked simultaneously with the windows version devs.
Given the game is Unreal Engine 4 it probably will be a quick release after they're done with releasing all episodes.

Yup That's the one I don't want to see anything else after seeing the teaser I will just wait and hope for it to be ported on Linux as well .

For Vampyr I don't even dream about it happening given that now Focus is owned by the guy who founded Cyanide. And as far as linux gamers are concerned we can all go eat a big bag of dicks ( his words not mine )

Okay legit tiny little question.

Does one need to plug in a flight stick for those or are they playable with just keyboard and mouse ?

I doubt that it will work with regular controller as well so I won't even ask.

I'd like to get into one of those but I'm always worried that I'll have to retort to a flight stick in order to fully enjoy them.

Quoting: rkfgTwo WEEKS? That's insane! That probably means they already have the game completed and just release the episodes one by one so it feels like series. [LiS 1 had 2 months between episodes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Is_Strange [External Link]). Same for BtS [External Link].
I just double checked actually one month between each episode.
Episode two will be out on October 20th .
Then third saturday of november for episode 3
Then third saturday of December for episode 4

Also you need to bear in mind that the entire team B that was in charge of developing Vampyr for Focus Home Interactive , is now free and will probably constitute massive reinforcements.
Dontnod with the succcess of the first life is strange manage to triple in size and have a team A , B and C now .
So they went from 200 employees working on the game proprer to around 600 (again working on the game projects directly so not counting marketing team and administrative folk , just coders and artists )

Team C is busy with their mystery title that we have only been teased about.

But team B is done with Vampyr so they probs don't sit idly by and probs give a hand to team A.

A full two weeks between episode if they manage to keep to schedule.

Linux hardware vendor System76 has begun teasing their new 'open-source computer'

Quoting: slaapliedjeIf RISC-V can ride the open source hardware wave, and fix CPU vulnerabilities that x86 and most others with speculative execution have, then there is a decent chance for adoption.
Ironicaly I'd like for RISC-V to take back a bit more the route of dedicated processors but I doubt we will ever see a turn back to that and speculative execution and other shenanigans will probably stay with us for long.
General purposes processors just make more sense economically (not ecologically though) but right now they're just at the phase of trhowing some prototyping boards to see what people will do with them.
I hope RISC-V finds it's niche somewhere and starts growing but blame it on my age me being french or whatev's I'm just not seeing the platform taking off quickly.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI have only ever been in one very small part of Lille for a couple of hours while I waited for a train connection--was going from Arras, where being Canadian I'd been checking out the Vimy WW I memorial, to Oxford. That little bit seemed really nice though, wouldn't mind going back to check it out a bit more. I'm more up for patisseries and chocolate than drinking though.
Well when it comes to chocolate being a native Lille my Belgian fleming brothers and sisters are legit right next door , so we have a solid offer to browse through that's for sure :P
