Warhammer 40,000: Gladius devs new game ZEPHON has a demo up

I just hope it doesn't end up with a tonne of paid DLC like Gladius did. Just have all the factions in there and the start.
As for the game , looks similar to Gladius with a re-skin ??

Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition gets a free starter edition

Quoting: ElectricPrismBoth AoE 3 and AoE 4 have a review rating of 83-86%.

Meanwhile AoE 2 is rated at 94%

Similar to Civilization V (96%) vs Civilization VI (85%)

Proof that low effort 3D versions aren't automatically better than 2D or old-school graphics.

I really don't understand what is so damn hard -- if Age of Empires verbatim copied the 2D sprite style in 3D and the exact mechanics 1:1 their game would score in the 92-98% easy.

All this "New Crap" just annoys me and other gamers too -- like "swear filters" taking the fun out of modern games.

Games of all things should not be influenced by "the church" of modernity (but that's a detail that I could write entire essays about).

Maybe by the time they make Age of Empires 5 they'll find a way to make it free-to-play and finally get the 3D right. In any case garnering more interest in the series is a smart move -- they should have done this with 2 -- then the masses would be in a swarm to play and buy more.

Edit: to clarify -- If swear filters or gore are things a person wants -- they should be "opt in" and not "opt out" -- Serious Sam 3 is the perfect example of this where they replace all blood sfx with hippie flowers and it's just so much fun -- because games are supposed to be games and not real life.
Age of Empires 3 was not that bad IMO.
The art was still colorful and vibrant.
Age of Empires 4 however - i could never get into. It looked bland and flat and lifeless. I got it as a gift and i feel bad for barely touching it.

As for the filters , i can't say. My friends and I usually play versus AI and i have to mute them since they spam the taunts non stop.

Command & Conquer - Combined Arms - the huge OpenRA mod adds more missions
6 Jul 2023 at 10:16 am UTC

Surprised no comments here. The mod is a great find , almost 4 sub-factions per each faction. And the AI seems a bit smarter than the OpenRA one. ( at least it captures the neutral oil refineries)
They incorporated a lot of units from later C&C franchises.
Cool game , noice find Liam.

Is it me , or does this look like a Tiberian Dawn mod.
I mean the water and terrain look almost identical.
Would the energy source emerging from the ground be "tiberium" ?

Liam has in the past nuked his system by compiling OBS and you suggest he use Gentoo? Pretty bold, if you ask me. :P
I have to hear that story :woot:
Somewhere I followed a wrong command, didn't pay enough attention, stuff got removed that shouldn't and it all died. It was a learning experience to be sure and I've rarely compiled anything since :P. Flathub all the way.
I think Linus from tech tips tried Pop OS , tried to install a new DE and managed to remove the display manager by mistake so no desktop showed up anymore.

Quoting: GuestI quite enjoyed Wheel of Time, and was reminded of it recently from the "tv" series adaptation (which I also enjoyed). Not yet read any of the books. Safe to say that I'll be snagging that one. I know it doesn't have a native version, but for games that old I'm not exactly expecting it. That's what I use wine for.
Had you read the books (it's the most epic saga I've ever read), you probably wouldn't have enjoyed the series. It's a horrible adaption, yet it seems like it might not come of as horrible without the reference. :D
So, don't read the books until you finished the series or just switch completely. But be aware it's a long saga (~20000 pages iirc) with very detailed descriptions.
Ha, I read the first book, asked my friends how many books there were (at the time 7 was the answer) and I responded with "He is going to die before he finishes the story..."
Did he finish it ?
I'd like to buy the books but i don't want anything incomplete.

Quoting: GuestWish someone would sell me James Bond 007: Nightfire and The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II.
I still have my Battle for Middle Earth collection that has the two of them. I think the last time I tried them in Wine, they failed, and I believe that in Win10 they are broken.
Well , not sure i won't get a ban from Liam , but i know for a fact there are torrents with whole collection working fine on Win 10.

Nice article.
I am surprised how much history and games were available back then. Kind of regret no switching over earlier , but then again i was a dumb impatient kid.

BTW - would you also consider trying Kohan : Immortal Sovereigns , a strategy game from 2001. Curios if it would run :)

EDIT : Fyi - internet archive has a copy of the Loki ISOs it seems
