Valve have released some interesting statistics about controller use

I rewired my Duke controller to work on PC years ago and have been using that for basically everything. When I think about it the Duke controller might've been a contributor to why I moved to Linux. The unofficial drivers needed to get the Duke controller working on Windows never really got updated to work officially on anything above XP which became a problem when I upgraded to Vista. I got an Ubuntu 8 LiveCD at a local computer store and the controller just worked with no setup and I was a little shocked.

Maybe I'll pick up that Duke controller remake that Hyperkin has released for the Xbox One, maybe I'll just chop off my hands and get smaller ones so that I can use a 360 controller comfortably.

I haven't really been paying much attention to all the political nonsense lately, I stopped years ago when I realized it was stressing me out and effecting my health. I suppose there could be some kinda political agenda hidden in that Code of Conduct, but I certainly didn't notice it.

An interview with the developer of DXVK, part of what makes Valve's Steam Play tick

He makes a great point at the end which is bizarrely not as obvious to some people (I'm including myself) as it really should be. Ultimately it increases the amount of games on the platform and that is not a bad thing.

The Nvidia driver requirement doesn't seem all that strict. The decade old laptop I have hooked up to my TV ran this beta just fine despite running on version 340.106

What are you playing this weekend?

I have a pet rat named Tux (I named him that since he has the same color scheme as a penguin), I'll be playing with him this weekend. I give him an hour of play everyday, but I'm gonna do a little extra today and tomorrow since he's been seeming a little down lately. All the local pet stores don't sell rats anymore so I haven't been able to get him a friend.

Steam Play's Proton beta has been updated with a performance improvement and fixes

Had some pretty bad stuttering with my entire library before, this release really seems to have helped with that quite a bit.
I've went and replaced the wine binary links in /usr/bin/ to point toward the wine binaries included in steam's proton. It just seems to have better game compatibility and better fullscreen support than vanilla wine at the moment, at least for my system.

Some thoughts on Valve’s new Steam Play feature and what it means for Linux gaming

In the long term I think this'll probably mean more native ports, or at the least games specifically designed to work well in proton.

There could be a point in the future where Linux is popular enough that developers will have to ask themselves why they are still even developing games only for Windows when a large portion of their users are playing the game inside a glitchy Windows wrapper and having an inferior experience as a result.

Valve officially confirm a new version of 'Steam Play' which includes a modified version of Wine

Crap, you can enable the compatibility tools on your entire library. I don't expect everything to work, but it's neat to see the games in my linux library triple.

Gonna finish Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. Already binged The First Encounter, just so happy that I finally figured out how to get the source code for the game to compile.

Shockolate is a new cross-platform source port of System Shock 1

Oh no, it has 32 bit dependencies which have dependencies that refuse to install alongside their 64 bit equivalents. Guess I'm sticking to playing this game over wine as I don't want to open that can of worms and break my Debian environment again.
