Some information on why Wine is not going to be using DXVK
25 Jan 2019 at 11:58 pm UTC

Hang on so literally two emails got sent out for whatever reason doesnt get a fast response and that is we are not going to use one of the best performance tools for windows/linx gaming in ten years. There a number of reasons why that could be he may feel that he cant discuss his source code without valves permission as they are his employer two he feels his project is the only way to go and its his baby he doesnt anyone "helping" with it. Or he could actually be being rude and not give two fucks about the wine development team. Since am not a mind reader nor personally know anybody involved and I think I am going to say its probably a misunderstanding based on miscommunication.

DXVK development will continue and third party clients such as lutris will still enable you to install dxvk on wine configs so whether wine and dxvk are playing nicely or not is really irrelvent.

Lutris 0.5 beta 2 is out to further refine the experience and it's looking great

Quoting: LiotheVaguely mentioning "other open platforms" was them unwilling to commit to anything.
But as mentioned in the article, if Linux isn't even on the roadmap, what other platforms are there?
Most likely The switch which is funny because that runs a bespoke version of linux as its os

Valve really does have Linux on lockdown doesnt it, look Lutris adding support for gog means i am more likely to pickup more games from gog. It would appear nobody is willing to bet on linux with the exception of Valve who are only investing in linux as a long term stratergy in case MS tries to lock down the next version of windows (well even more then now). I appear to be that guy that is actually concerned everyone else seem to be on the valve are the saviours of linux gaming. My biggest concern is valve looks at its balance sheet and goes well our investment is linux isnt panning out and gabe just going okay kill it.

Quoting: FutureSutureWhat the actual heck? There goes my purchase of the game at full price. This was my most anticipated game (and not just Metroidvania) by far. I am a massive fan of the genre so this is a major disappointment. Good thing I stay the heck away from Kickstarter and other crowdfunding websites like it.
The thing is the warning was there because the two 8 bit style prequels they released arent supported on linux either they play fine through lutris or steamplay but no native support.

Quoting: jensI guess I wont be popular with my opinion, but I hope that Steam Play/Proton will take that much steam that wrapping Wine/Steam on windows via Lutris will soon no longer be relevant. The reason for my opinion here is that I still think that gaming on Linux will only improve in the long term when Linux hits a significantly higher market share than the current 1%. Playing windows games outside of Proton does not increases Linux visibility.

This is just my opinion, by all means everyone is free to use Linux as one wishes. Note also that I don't talk about making Lutris irrelevant, I know that it wraps more than just Wine.
Nothing is going to grow the linux market place without killer apps there has to be an exclusive that you cannot get on windows/xbox/ps4/switch and it has to stay exclusive to linux nobody is going to switch to linux to play a game they already play perfectly fine on windows they just arent. The mainstream users have no clue that google MS and amazon collect their data and sells it on to marketers no fucking idea and they are happy in their ignorance.I had to spend over an hour once providing tech support to a lady at my old work place because we switched to debian for low end users because of licencing costs. What massive project was she trying to do she had been given a deb file to install and she said am double clicking and the wizard thing is not coming up so i can click next. In the end after throughly losing my patience because i thought she was trolling me. I drove to her site did it for her and she muttered windows was better every two minutes and it's this stupid minux system. That is not a mistype that is what she said. That is the level of user that runs games on windows and you are not going to get them to come to linux when they have to actually learn to do things in terminal to get your system running smoothly.

MMM So no refunds just more of this come on guys dont you own a good platform type of mentality that some developers have. We are not out of 2018 yet and this just more bad news in a year of terrible cancellations and delays for previously promised linux games. Should be used to it by now, maybe time to become a console peasant esh doesnt appeal but better than going back to dual booting.
