Exactly that's the point they aren't locked to steam os they could install windows but it's not designed to support the hardware. It's now different to Xbox or ps having their proprietary os it's just more capable than standard console os

Well it's the same thing with proton we are all relying on valve not getting bored and pulling the funding. But I think we are safe hell they funded proton when steam deck wasn't a thing and now there are more than a million units sold. All running Linux can't see valve getting bored of the extra cash rolling in.

But that's kinda the point of proton developers who had zero intentions of doing a Linux version do not have to pay a penny for a Linux version. it's all down to valve to fund fixing issues in proton. If a game gets borked after an update well buyer beware right you are playing on a unsupported platform.

Games are not all about graphics, look at battlebit remastered for instance.

It's a fun game but you can get away with those graphics on a indy game.priced at 14.99 that's great and fair price.

The problem with Indies is the reality is they want the resources to make more games. Ninja went to Microsoft first chance they got so did double fine as did arkane and so on. Hell bungie went independent then we t back to being publisher owned. The battle bit guys I understand have been approached by various publishers

Sorry can't remember who said Nintendo is not kicking up a stink well thing is with Nintendo most people going back to the Wii but a Nintendo as a second console. Because nobody makes games like them. Now I am not a fan because despite thier willingness to think outside the box when it comes to design in hardware. The fact they are now on the 13th version of mario kart which is in essence the same as the suoernintendon game just 30 years later get praise for innovation in games is a bit are you high or do you just have amnesia.

I do envy you for having a backlog I have long ago finished all the games I wanted to play now waiting for the next elder scrolls game and hoping the graphics card needed to play it won't require selling organs or my first born to buy but knowing Nvidia grees it's possible

It does rely on steam continued support for proton dxvk and vulkan as well as continued funding for Mesa. Now at the minute the steam deck has been a success thank god but much like Google valve has form for getting bored and dropping projects see steam controller steam link and steam boxes
