Doom (2016) could have been on Linux, id Software made a Linux version sound easy to do

Quoting: bubexelFor the same reason that games like quake 3, doom 3, quake 2 and others that already have their own linux client aren't on steam for linux. They do games multiplatform in mind but they dont want release it on linux just for unknown reason.

I have to add also the move on quakelive that was fully compatible on linux and they removed it after a update.
Its not an unkown reason they say they just dont see the market for it because linux guys will just play it thru wine.

Verily!
Quoting: sbolokanov…and Linux support was a bit more serious.
Verily! x2
Quoting: sbolokanovAnd above all, the fiasco with Witcher 3 didn't happen.
Strange. I thought W3 was a success. Not up to the scale of "Fallout 4", but a success nonetheless.
I think he is referring to the promise of witcher 3 for linux that turned out to utter bollocks as they stopped working on it because their feefees got hurt because witcher 2 was unplayable at launch and they got called on it.

Get ready to control a clan of Vikings in 'Northgard' as it's releasing for Linux tomorrow

Personally if you have issues with Lutris I have found Matthew aka Stryder to be more than happy to help with fixes providing you give him the error reports and use the submit bug reports. Like he always said if it doesnt get reported he doesnt know its a bug.

There are so many companies that still have their name, but not much otherwise. What are the companies names worth after being officially bought by EA. What changes when the investors behind a name change?

Just slapping a name on it and state "It's good!" isn't cutting it for me. The good old "We are working closely with (insert gaming veteran)!" is also more often than not just marketing.

I think I wait how this turns out after it is released.
Yeah this times a thousand the Atari name being prime example it not actually Atari that company died in the 80's infrogrames are wearing its corpse because Atari has an associated lineage. Same with Nordic nobody knew who they were until they bought some ip and changed their company name to Thq Nordic now they bought Koch media meaning they now own Deep silver. A name means nothing because rights can be bought for a name or brand.

Rise of the Tomb Raider announced for Linux, port from Feral Interactive
2 Mar 2018 at 3:10 pm UTC

Quoting: sbolokanovShockingly (as to me, too) I can say that I will not buy this game (or any future Steam game for that matter).
Unless of course we can play it without Steam. But I don't see this happening on Feral's side.

After the usual update of gcc/glibc and Steam stopping running (no 32bit support), I can say that I'm off with this.

This has two pluses:
1. I will not have to put up with 32bit anymore. Yay!
2. This has to be separated really:
a) Will stop feeding money to Steam/Valve.
b) Since I have a no GOG policy too, I won't spend money for games at all! WOW
c) all this leads to this - will save some money and feed AMD for their new policy.
I've been thinking about this for some time now. … NVIDIA, as they say.
AMD dont make games nor do they have a gaming store and buying amd hardware is pointless if you want to do nothing but facebook literally any processor from the last 10 plus years will do.

Feral Interactive are teasing another Linux port, so that's two titles not yet announced

Quoting: ellie_feral
Quoting: chepatiI wish Feral would stop these teases and instead would plainly announce what games they've acquired the rights to port. The sooner, the better. In fact, if possible *before* the windows release date. This will make sure that linux gamers who want to play a particular game can hold off on the purchase until the game is released on linux. I have 4-5 games that I had no inkling would ever get a linux port and bought them on windows. Had I known, I would have waited and given Feral my money.

Feral, if you're reading this, please reconsider your PR strategy.
We announce titles as early as feasibly possible. Until it's time to announce them, we can have Feral Radar clues or we can have good old-fashioned tumbleweeds.
Genuinely curious is the lack of a reveal because its baked into the contract with the original publisher/dev or it is you dont want to annouce it in case the problems with porting are so severe you cant overcome them. The radar thing is not to everyone tastes but i guess its better to know that you guys are actively working to get linux contracts is nothing but good news for linux gamers.

Ion Maiden, a new 3D Realms FPS has launched in Early Access with Linux support

Quoting: Smoke39Really sad to see people dismissing this as nothing more than nostalgia pandering. Most "retro" shooters these days are either linear sequences of arenas or rogue-likes, and most modern shooters are dull roller coasters more interested in spectacle than gameplay. If Ion Maiden can reproduce the intricate level design of Duke 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood, it'll be something special, irrespective of its visual aesthetic. Dusk is the only other game I know of that's even trying to do something similar.

It's cool if it's not your style of game, but I don't think it's fair to dismiss an entire style of FPS that's currently woefully underrepresented just because this particular one has pixels.
I partially agree with you but personally I prefer my shooters the way they are now story driven i know they mostly are hardly original with their stories exceptions being the darkness etc. But yeah to each his own these type of game are not for me bc well i was there when these types of games were new playing doom and quake back in the day on my brothers 486, they were fun then but i find them really dull now.
