OpenRazer 3.0.0 expands with many new Razer devices supported on Linux

Quoting: NezchanOpenRazer doesn't seem to pick up my Deathadder v2 at all, so Polychromatic has nothing to work with. Bit of a disappointment, really.
It should work after the plugdev fix I mentioned, Nezchan. I was in the same boat - OpenRGB only saw my motherboard's fan, while Polychromatic failed to load. After plugdev and a reboot, it all sprang to life. Now I can use either/or OpenRGB/Polychromatic with my Deathadder v2.

You're on Ubuntu-Mate, while I'm on Pop_OS 20.04, so hopefully there's enough crossover that this can work for you.

GNOME 40 is out now with the redesigned Activities Overview

Desktop Icons [External Link] is a quick fix for that particular oversight.

Quoting: RandomizedKirbyTree47I'm not going to use Gnome Shell, but I look forward to seeing gtk4 ports of Gnome apps I do use. And Cinnamon eventually too.
I'm using an extension called Dash to Panel [External Link] and it more or less turns Gnome Shell into Cinnamon, albeit without desktop applets. I also had to add User Themes [External Link], of course, since it's pretty ugly out of the box. But, if you ever decide to jump ship from Mint, give it a try. I'm really impressed with Pop.

Exciting to see updates, but I wish they (gnome devs) would do something about the state of gnome extensions to be honest. I can't count the number of times I've hit "install" on an extension only to see "error" as the immediate outcome. Sometimes it's a simple dependency, sometimes it's something else that needs tweaked/edited first, sometimes it's a specific version of gnome-shell that's required, and sometimes the extension is just broken and unmaintained (but still available). That last one is even more annoying when the description says "gnome devs please remove this broken extension" - don't you get to delete your own extension once you've uploaded it??

It's just frustrating. All the more so when I realise that I needed over 10 extensions installed for this desktop to be vaguely usable.

Sadly, it's more likely that Gnome 4, with its increased reliance on GTK4, will break more extensions, making the situation even worse, rather than better.

There's no monkeying around in the new roller game Rolled Out!

That music gave me a mild seizure, but the game looks like it really captures the magic of Super Monkey Ball. I don't often complete Nintendo games, but I did complete that one. This looks brilliant!

Dungeon-crawler Tangledeep gets a new streamlined mode, try the devs new game too
24 Mar 2021 at 1:18 pm UTC

This is weird - I re-installed Tangledeep just three days ago out of the blue when I noticed that I'd only played an hour, but it's the kind of game I enjoy. There's a bit of a learning curve to the game, and it really, really needs better tutorials, but it's generally excellent. I might have to give the new Ronin mode a shot too, although I'm enjoying my mage/paladin mix right now!

Just tried this - superb. I originally missed the line about adding my user to the plugdev group. After that (and a reboot) and it works great. Quite impressed with Polychomatic too, particularly the dark tray icon support. Really nice to have a simple way to control my mouse colours - love it!

Quoting: scaineTrue, but Feral are only the developer here. The publishers of the games they port will be the ones to decide what kind of DRM is in place. I'm honestly surprised that Feral managed to get Denuvo removed on the titles they ported. That was great to see.
Feral acts as both the developer and the publisher for their ports. Check the Steam store page for any of their games and you'll see them listed alongside the original publisher. That's why I mentioned Steam's ability to have different publishers for different target platforms as a possible reason they stick to Steam.
Sure, but my point is that they're only publishing the ports, and to get the rights to that IP in order to port it, they'll be beholden to the original publishers wishes. I suspect that your point about being able to discern sales by platform is the more likely reason they stick to Steam - nothing to do with DRM, which (I suggest) would be the original publishers decision.

Quoting: scaineHonestly, it's weird that you painted in them in that light? Do you have history against them, some minor grudge?
But it’s strange that you never read about Feral love for DRM, it seems to be common knowledge in most Linux-centric gaming communities.
It might just be conjecture based on the fact that they never sold their games outside of Steam. DRM might be a reason, but other plausible ones are publishing agreements with the IP owners, Steam being able to account for different publishers for different target platforms, and Steam reaching the largest audience by far.

Unless they tell us, we can only guess. But it does suck for those Linux gamers who avoid Steam. You might not be interested in the games, but I bought and enjoyed several of them.
Being on Steam does not require them to use Steam's DRM. Actually planty of games do not use Steam's DRM. They can be started fine with no steam client running.

Microsoft reportedly have Discord in their sights to acquire

Quoting: EhvisWhile I'm in no way trusting Microsoft on what they would try to do with regard to privacy. I'm not actually sure I would trust Discord itself any more than that as it is now. There is a reason why I only run this thing in complete isolation. It doesn't even have access to snoop on my running processes. And otherwise I regard it as a public discussion forum.
The lack of isolation and its built-in process snooping is one of the key reasons I gave up on the fat-client experience. But while I'm sure they'd love to snoop processes on non-Windows machines, I suspect that this move is more to get rid of competition from Teams. And my god Teams is so bad, this is the only way it'll succeed (speaking as an 8 hours a day Teams user at my work).

They tried to buy Slack before. I wonder if they'll try again?

I closed my GitHub account the moment that deal went through and I'll do the same if this happens to Discord. It's a shame, as I like the Discord experience, even though I gave up on their client (I only run it in the web now), but as an old, jaded long time techie, I won't have anything to do with Microsoft. Nothing they do absolves them of the hurt they bring to this industry day in and day out with their legal strong-arming, proprietary lock in, aggressive acquisitions and baffling licensing. They can "love Linux" all they want, I'll have nothing to do with them.
