Valve released a stable Steam Client update yesterday, some nice fixes in for Linux and Steam Play

What would you like to see improved next in the Steam Client?
I doubt it'll ever happen, but it would nice if Steam could be wrapped with proper window decorations. I use right-click on menu-bar to lower windows (send them to the back) and of course, since Steam uses it's own decorations, that doesn't work. Small issue, but annoying.

As for Steamplay, I'm holding out hope that they'll fix the EAC issues. That would be a bit of a game changer (ha!) for me, as I have a few titles that are basically borked as a result.

Quoting: Raxe88I once was about to buy this game and my inner patient gamer didn't make the call. I'm happy to be able to play now. There's tons of negative reviews about the game being a grindfest and antisolo but I'll try anyways. I hope this fits the itch of a grindy online RPG game.
It is a grindfest and it really is horribly anti-solo. But I enjoyed it for around 30+ hours in the beta phase - the grind is kind of fun to be honest, and you can do much of your early grinding solo. You'll need a team for dungeons though, almost always. And later material collection in red/black zones, again, you'll need a team or guild backing you up.

Not my scene. I had my fun, then archived it forever. Now it's free to play, you should dip your toe, risk free, and make up your own mind!

Game launcher Lutris has another release out, adding a little spit and polish

Quoting: GuestArgh, still needs gnomedesktop as a dependency. As much as I want to try lutris, until that's no longer the case then I simply can't use it. Ah well, still a nice project anyway.
But it's just the library, not the whole desktop, I think? Like a single .so file?

Lutris takes all the pain away for me. It's the only reason I can now play Overwatch like a native app.

Well, almost native... a couple of versions ago, I used to click the Overwatch shortcut that Lutris created for me in my Application launcher and it launched like native. But with the latest couple of versions, when I click that, it still launches... but also launches Lutris uselessly in the back ground and then it complains if I try to close it.

...and after writing all that, I went to check the status of the bug report here [External Link] - yep, it's fixed. :)

Superb!

A quick look over ProtonDB reports for Steam Play in March 2019

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI think that PROTONDB must add a new Steamplay rating:
DIAMOND, for true "click and play" out of the box experiences, and leave PLATINUM for games that needs "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1" or something like that in the game launch options for to play properly..

GOLD status should be for when you have to, manually, install a library or modify some files inside the prefix for to play properly.
I actually think that Valve will just end up building a database of switches for each game into Proton itself. That way, if you have a certain card/config, it'll know to do a certain switch. Should be seamless, and of course, you can still override with the existing launch parameter if required.

I expect they will soon get Proton to the point where everything is either borked, or platinum. And then they keep working on the borked titles.

Quoting: scaineI guess you didn't read where I said:
I did, and I say again that even if it's a small tweak, it requires that you have outside knowledge for this. the "Platinum" should be just for install and play like native games, and not just because a game runs as good as.
We'll agree to differ then.

Quoting: BielFPs
Quoting: scainebut I honestly think there's a too big a jump between gold and platinum.

It shoudn't, that's a problem with users feedback. Most of then just put gold/platinum status without testing all the resources of a game. That's why we have silver/bronze too.
And again. We're not seeing eye to eye here. My point is that the feedback system is pretty broken. It was broken on WineHQ and it's pretty broken here too. The common fault is "people", I think...

Quoting: scaineThe graph in the article shows us just under 2300 reports from Nvidia users in March, with just under 1800 reports from AMD and Intel users.
I was being sarcastic, even though if you check any AAA games, you will mostly see Nvidia users. You have to search more if you want to see Mesa users feedback.[/quote]...not my experience, which is why I'd like a filter by GPU. Maybe we play different AAA games. Who knows.

Quoting: scaineI mean, Subnautica is still Silver on the site, but is at least a gold. And with a simple "-forcegl", it's a Platinum
This one I think it should be gold if require a tweak, even if it's a small one. Imagine that most people don't even know this command without search in the internet first. Platinum should be only for games working by just launching it, and gold if just require a little tweak like your example.
I guess you didn't read where I said:
Quoting: scaine(yeah, yeah, I know what "Platinum" means, but you get my point... it's a trivial fix).
I was being facetious, but I honestly think there's a too big a jump between gold and platinum. If all you have to do is add a -forcegl flag to the startup, that's a far cry from some gold games which require all sorts of protontricks commands to get them working.

Quoting: scaineSo I'd really like to say "Only show me Proton 4.2 reports, and only for Nvidia". And if I can get a "Only Ubuntu", so much the better.
Isn't only Nvidia already? :)

The vast majority of reports there are from Nvidia users.
Not really "vast majority". The graph in the article shows us just under 2300 reports from Nvidia users in March, with just under 1800 reports from AMD and Intel users.

Quoting: BielFPsIs there some option for filter versions in the site? Like I want to see feedback from the latest version with just mesa drivers, but didn't found any option for that.
I asked for exactly that on the Discord, but no sign of that enhancement just yet. Hopefully something that comes soon, because so much of ProtonDB is muddy already, since earlier Proton version reports drag down the score of certain games that work perfectly now.

I mean, Subnautica is still Silver on the site, but is at least a gold. And with a simple "-forcegl", it's a Platinum (yeah, yeah, I know what "Platinum" means, but you get my point... it's a trivial fix).

So I'd really like to say "Only show me Proton 4.2 reports, and only for Nvidia". And if I can get a "Only Ubuntu", so much the better.

One day!

Like an iso-3D Oxygen Not Included! Well worth tracking, but still a year away at least, unless you do the early access stuff. I'll wishlist it, and hope it turns out nicely.
