Quoting: mirothis would totally be acceptable for older/legacy titles, but I really think too many will jump on that train that it runs with proton and that there is no need to compile it for linux.
we'll see.
Definitely a concern. But then "native" builds didn't always get great performance either. I'm most concerned that this encourages devs to simply do DX again and is the death of Vulkan.

Too early to see how it goes. Let's wait for performance and reliability reports first, eh?

A lot of reviews call this game a "2D version of From the Depths". So today, I learned that there's a game called From the Depths [Steam [External Link]], which looks pretty awesome and has a Linux build!!

I've wishlisted this and might well end up buying both games. I LOVE building games and I'm currently trying to wean myself off Robocraft and avoid buying Terratech.

So many awesome games out there...

This just looks like a big pile of fun, not taking itself too seriously. I think I'll be picking this up.

This looks great. But as a top-down ARPG it will suffer from my internal "is it as good as Victor Vran?" meter... and so far the answer to that has been no every time!

This definitely looks like one to keep an eye on!

One of the last games I ever Kickstarted. They sent me my key months (years?) ago but I've resisted playing so far. Looking forward to release!

Quoting: TheRiddickFrom what I understand there is no combat in this game?
No. There's a somewhat Heavy-Rain-like aspect of puzzles and some dialogur and some walking/exploring, but it's very, very story driven. So far (thankfully) there hasn't even been any QTEs. It's not that kind of game.

Quoting: GuestIs it possible to switch to a first person view? I hate this kind of offset third person camera, makes it hard to move/target things, on top of course of the character hiding a quarter of the screen.
Sadly, no. Not that I have found. And yes, the targeting is a bit negatively impacted by exactly that problem. It's not gotten in the way too much though. As a style choice, I get why they went over-the-shoulder, but like you, I prefer first-person for all such games.

I'm about three hours into it now - superb presentation, very story-driven. Object interaction is a little bit hit-or-miss, but voice acting is top-drawer and the atmosphere is off the charts. Enjoying it immensely.

Kingdom Rush Origins to release on Steam in the next few months, looks like Linux will be supported

For those who think these games are hard, just to point out that they're hard as nails on mobile as a motive to make you buy and spend gems on balance-breaking (but no doubt profitable) one off upgrades like freeze gems or tnt.

On Linux, they are perfectly balanced and much, much more fairly scaled in difficulty. Note though that the second game, Frontiers, does require a little bit of grind to maximise your hero level. Some maps are just too difficult without a high level hero.
