Dying Light Is Now Confirmed For Linux, Bring It On Techland
25 Jan 2015 at 5:09 pm UTC

Quoting: linuxslackerat $72 US or $97 US with season pass in Australia i wont be forking out for this. would like to buy it but with the "Australia" tax its just too much(even without its quite a pricy game) hopefully one day game makers wont rip people off for where they live
$72 AUD is about £38. It's £39.99 in the Steam store in the UK. Sooooo... not sure where you're coming from there.

In fact, while it doesn't include AUD, the Steam DB page notes that the game is in fact cheaper everywhere outside of the U.S. by a small margin.

Maybe I'm not understanding your reference to the Australian tax. Do you have to pay something extra in addition to the $72AUD base price?

[EDIT, or are you saying the converted price is roughly $72 US dollars?? That would be a crazy mark up though!]

Dying Light From Techland Has A Little Hint About Linux Support

Yep, what valczir said - while Dead Island was a hack-n-slash, Dying Light is slightly more of a survival horror. Scavenge for food/supplies during the day, endure the night as best you can. The difference between the zombies throughout the night and day cycle is huge, as are the numbers.

Was looking forward to this one when it was announced back in 2013. Since then, I've ditched Windows and assumed that I'd closed the door on ever buying and playing this. Would LOVE to see it come to Linux.

Instabuy.

The Banner Saga RPG Looks Close To A Linux Version
20 Jan 2015 at 7:10 pm UTC

I'd given up hope on this, especially after learning that it was based on Adobe Air. It was one of my first pledges on Kickstarter and I'd pretty much assumed that my $25 was a waste. So it's nice to see some form of progress, even though I agree with BTRE that both their priorities and their communication have been abysmal.

Banner Saga is a stain on an otherwise pretty pleasing start to my Kickstarter adventures:

And funnily enough, it seems that things took a turn for the worse there too, since I haven't heard anything about Carmageddon either!

I've spent a lot of hours in Borderlands 2 (and TPS), but the game that affected me most was the Talos Principle. Also, gutted that Tales of Maj'Eyal didn't make the shortlist - it annoys me when people reference Dungeons of Dredmor or FTL as the pinnacle of rogue-like (assuming they can spell rogue...) and yet these same people haven't played ToME. It is the standard by which all others should be measured.

Steam Hardware Survey For December 2014
11 Jan 2015 at 12:33 am UTC

It's always frustrating, this survey. I'd get it every three or four months on Windows, but I've been gaming on Linux solely since the initial release, about two years, and I've seen it once. And I'm on nearly every day, as I was when I played on Windows.

Perhaps they've changed it overall and Windows users don't see it as much either? We'll never get a clear answer however.

Valve's Newest Controller Design Looks Solid

Really pleased that they added that analogue thumb stick. Driving games would have been a nightmare without one.

I guess we just need a driving game to launch now! :)

Two Worlds II Confirmed For A Linux Release This Month

Quoting: torhamI consider this to be DRM because you need to ask for 3rd party authorization before you can use the software fully.
Nah, fair enough. Can't argue with that. I don't like the way the game is portrayed either, but I think I was defending GoG's position slightly because I don't care about multiplayer.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceIf GOG gets the Linux version I'd shell out the money for a DRM free copy.
There is no DRM free version, even the GOG version includes DRM.
Just not sure how you can say that twice in the same thread? GoG is pretty clear that this game is DRM free -
http://www.gog.com/game/two_worlds_2_epic_edition [External Link]

They do hide the fact that there's a registration for multi-player, which isn't great. According to that game page:

Multiplayer notice: In order to access the multiplayer portion of the game, you must first enter your unique cd-key. This CD key can be found in your account page.
And it's also not ideal that you can patch the GoG version with a third-party update which re-adds DRM. But to claim that "there is no DRM version" is incorrect.

Still. I'll probably avoid it out of principle. This isn't a publisher who has any respect for DRM-free gaming.

Done. Nice deal - Secrets of Raetikon has been on my wishlist for a bit and if you don't already own, it's worth paying £2 for Pixeljunk Shooter alone. Incredible deal!
