Combat reminds me of Spearhead Games (the excellent Stories [External Link] and Omensight [External Link] games), so I'm gonna follow this for sure. Interesting what people are saying about Crosscode though - I finished Stories in 6 hours, but played it about a year later all over again for another 6 - excellent game. Then 10 hours in Omensight - finished it, but frequently consider playing it again.
Meanwhile, I have 15 hours in Crosscode but gave up on it, and no urge to play again. I feel like I have a "maximum hours" regarding gaming that occasionally kicks in.
I say occasionally, as there are many, many exceptions. But Crosscode wasn't one of them.
Still, this looks excellent.

Is it coming to Steam at a later date? All these dependency issues (even on Steam Deck!?) put me off. As does the connection to Epic Games, but that's another story, I suppose.

I've mostly enjoyed my time in this game (40 hrs or so), but I don't think I can play it any more until they give the player an option to turn off auto-aim when using melee and wands. It's even on for bows and staves, but at least with those you can over-ride the auto-aim by right clicking to zoom in. But no such option with wands and melee.
It kind of makes sense with melee - it feels a lot like the Batman games, where you kind of teleport across the map so that your melee attack lands on an enemy. But with wands it's absolutely infuriating. Maps are LITTERED with explosive barrels and other environmentals that you simply can't use because the damn wand will always hit the torso of an enemy instead. Even worse when it auto-aims at an enemy that you didn't intend to target.
So much promise too. Hopefully they sort it out.

Love the look of this. I played a couple of hours of Wargroove and it's good, but something didn't quite click there. I'll be giving this one a shot. Advance Wars seemed simple but there was an insane level of detail hiding under the covers that made it compelling - the mechanics, the story, the maps, the characters, the abilities, the usual "weapon triangle" you see in both Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. It's a high, high bar for clones.
Speaking of Fire Emblem, I bought Symphony of War TWO YEARS AGO, and I've yet to try it. Both of these games will be awesome on the Steam Deck. I need to sort my life out!

Absolutely love the look of this, but was a bit gutted that there's no Grim Dawn style multiplayer. Looks like it's going for roguelite rather than GD's RPG progression, but still. Ravenswatch pulls this off brilliantly, but they've gone all-in on single-player here and while I'm still interested, it's very much less so.

If Valve have tidied it up, then fair play. Amazes me that it still garners 100K gamers though.

Quoting: PhiladelphusAs to how, well, it's a great game with staying power (so you've got the people who've been playing for a decade or more) and it's been around long enough to have new gamers get older and discover it for the first time. That must be it. And it's free. But while I have hundreds of hours in Mann vs Machine, the bots were insane even back when I played, over a decade ago. I had voice turned off after all the anthems and music and memes that "people" spammed into voice, but even the text chat was brutal - some of it was just juvenile, but quite a fair bit would get you either assaulted or arrested if you said in the "real world". It was the opposite of a safe space. Really unpleasant.

How are 100K people still playing this? Or are the numbers actually a true-er reflection of just bad the bot problem has actually become?
