Doom (2016) could have been on Linux, id Software made a Linux version sound easy to do

I still have my retail DOOM3 CD's which are windows only, and I happily purchased it because the Linux binaries were downloadable online.
Plenty of games have released for Linux with the mutual understanding between the developers and the community that it isn't going to really be supported and anyone who buys it for Linux is basically "on their own". It's not a new concept.

Quoting: berarmaPreviously, they would just release the binaries without any marketing/business fuss and it worked great that way. This is why I don't understand all the people trying to defend them for marketing reasons. They've done it before, and it absolutely would increase sales.

I already have no respect for id since they removed support from Quake Live. So I'm not surprised in the slightest that they wouldn't put in even the tiniest bit of effort toward a release on GNU/Linux.
They're definitely one company that I'll always have a sour taste in my mouth toward, almost no matter what they do at this point.

Am I the only one who doesn't like "heroes" in card games? I wonder if it has to do with the fact that in other card games I grew up playing it was just left up to my imagination to decide what type of person I was playing as.

I'm REALLY glad they aren't sticking to realism and it looks like they've thrown in some unique imaginative sci-fi elements too.
Can't wait to play this.

Nice to see we'll have an mmo on the cute side of graphics.
I'll definitely have to check it out as PvP also appeals to me (not so much killing others, but the threat of others killing me makes things feel more dynamic).

I finally started replaying BFE with Vulkan enabled today and the performance gains for me are spectacular on my old hardware. I guess that's the true power of Vulkan when it's given proper attention rather than treated as a secondary API.

I personally still blame Epic for poor performance and graphics bugs in any UE4 game.
They advertised themselves as having good GNU/Linux support, and yet the only game they've made with Linux support has the Linux download hidden because they know how crappy it is. For a while they even had it in a private forum and told people not to give out links and the main download page looks as if the game is win/mac only.
They've also had the exact same graphics bugs release after release with seemingly 0 interest in ever fixing them.
I don't like pointing fingers at Epic, and I am grateful that they're supporting us at all (and I do think it'll get a lot better in the future), but honestly it's not fair to blame games using their engine right now for the engine's problems. All that's going to do is make those game companies start to question their Linux support because we're basically getting on their case for not fixing bugs that really shouldn't be their responsibility in the first place.
It's strange that there's very little Linux talk on the UE4 forums too. It seems like everyone is busy complaining about performance to their clients rather than to Epic themselves. Maybe that has something to do with why Epic seems to have low interest in fixing our bugs.

Awesome to hear that this is coming to GNU/Linux. Seems really interesting. I'm a bit concerned about the "free to play" aspect though, as always it can be a game killer if not done well.

Actually I'm probably overreacting. I just really love multiplayer games and feel like nothing good has come out in a very long time, maybe I'm just grasping at straws to pin blame on something, I don't know.
