Steam Has Greenlit More Games With Linux Support!
14 Aug 2013 at 10:58 am UTC

Moar, moar, moar. I am getting ADHD from all these games too many to follow.

One game's failure to get any attention really puzzles me: Montague's Mount. why are they not kickstarted, they were there nearly from the start.

The voice acting seems really good, the Irish setting is really distinctive, and despite the common theme with Dear Esther, there is definitely a departure in the the fact that is it survival horror.

Starbound Has Had A Lot Of Updates Recently
12 Aug 2013 at 11:34 am UTC

Thanks for promoting this, this is great news, but I am worried by the fact that I love Linux, and I love Terraria and have been waiting for starbound since it was announced, however, I had not heard that Starbound would be released on the Linux platform. Hopefully, I am but an isolated case, but if this is the case, then we need to spread the word.

GOL Cast Episode 1 - Dungeon Colony

Nice cast, I would not worry about the voice, it is perfectly fine, and is quite agreable, I would be quite ok to listen to that even without a foam shield. Content wise, at the end of the cast, one has a clear picture of what the game has to offer; you explain what the point of the game is, give an interactive walk-through of the GUI, and peppered the description with some personal insights into the game mechanics, so it is mission accomplished.

Two points of constructive criticism, I know one doesn't always like that, but here goes: You have the famous linguistic parasite of the "you know" & "ummm" which buffers your comments at the beginning (They disappear once you are busy playing after a minute or so). I come across that a lot as I work in recruitment, and candidates often resort to that. Some self help coming along: http://douglaswhaley.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/how-to-stop-saying-you-know.html [External Link] & http://www.artofmanliness.com/2012/06/14/becoming-well-spoken-how-to-minimize-your-uhs-and-ums [External Link].

The other point is the quality of the screencast video, as mentioned by Bart, there may be ways of uploading better quality pictures, as it is still a bit blurry, even on 720.

I am not a screencast expert, in fact, I have never uploaded a video, especially after my failed attempt of playing in an amateur film production. That day, I realised I would not be the next De Niro.

I am certainly looking forward to future screencasts.

@Bart - what software for post processing would you suggest?

Estranged HL2 Single Player Adventure Mod On Its Way To Linux!
6 Aug 2013 at 2:07 pm UTC

Prepare to be red with envy: I have actually not played Half Life 2, or Episode 1 & 2! Goodness ahead for me.

I am currently upgrading my PC, and wonder if I will sense the same amazement as when I played the original game when it came out.

I thought this was a prime candidate for the Linux port. Happy to see this come along.

Shadowrun Returns Linux Port Just Started
5 Aug 2013 at 7:49 am UTC

This game has mixed reviews, but should be worthwhile as the developers are gradually adding features to address some of the players concerns. I will certainly buy it as soon as it is ported.

@Ba7a7chy: I have so many games to play that I can afford to wait until games are patched and fully playable. I waited until now to play Skyrim, so that shows how much one can wait. I am not sure yet whether to try it on wine or on my windows partition. I do try to avoid going on my windows hard drive as much as I can. Irony is yesterday I got the Steam survey on one of the rare occasions I was lurking on my windows partition.

Creator of Police Quest launches a new Kickstarter, we chat to them

All these kickstarters with Linux promises make me a bit wary.

Eador, Interstellar Marines, and I could name a few who managed to get our money because they said that Linux was going to be supported, and we are still waiting to see this happen.

Mark my word, I still find it admirable that developers are even thinking aboutreleasing on what is, we have to face it, a niche platform. And apparently, none of them have yet "abandonned" the idea officially, we will have to settle for later releases. I just hope projects don't get abandoned.

I have my fingers crossed for wastelands 2, one of the first projects I supported, for a simultaneous release on all platforms.

It would be nice to have a comprehensive list of 64 bit compatible games.

Oculus Rift First Impressions and Official Linux Support

Linus support from the go is great.

Iwonder if my wife would approve of having something looking like a blind termite sprawled in front of his computer all night. But yes, playing immersive games like Amnesia would be a no go for me.

I hope that they update Google maps streetview with this.
