I am eager to get back to my X-Plane-ing. Unfortunately my GPU is a bit broken. All 3 fans have stopped working and I have to keep it cool with a large floor fan. :D

Borderlands 3, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint out this week on Google Stadia

Supposedly the Stadia version of Borderlands 3 will only have all the updates applied up till October. They're only patching the rest next year. So you won't be able to play with non-Stadia users.

Some thoughts on Linux gaming in 2019, an end of year review

Quoting: TheRiddickJust keep in mind, if you think MSGS/EGS/GOG-Galaxy not working for Linux is a non-issue, then you ARE NOT A GAMER.
This is a terrible take. If a person only ever plays 3 games from Kongregate, they are still a gamer.

Also, it is a user's personal choice if they see the lack of support for these as an issue. There's no universal truth that says you have to have all these or you can't be happy as a gamer.

I know people who only buy on Itch.io... are they also not "gamers"?

Don't lose sight of the end goal here.

Microsoft is moving towards a "devices and cloud services" model. The ultimate idea being that one can use all of these services on any operating system. If they can get companies to buy into this, then they can compete with Google's Chromebook. Microsoft doesn't care about Windows so much any more, what they care about is being able to push their cloud services, and to be able to tax others who want to run software via their cloud.

The missing element with those, though, has always been AAA gaming, but between Stadia and Microsoft's xCloud they are catering to people who want AAA gaming on their low powered devices.

What this will result it eventually if they get what they want, is that high powered home PCs will be pretty much just used by a few people with specific use cases. This hardware will also likely be way more expensive, since wholesale components for these will be targeted at server farms, not consumers.

To recap the master goals:
- nobody installs software any more, it's all cloud
- most consumers will not use PCs, but closed appliances
- PC gaming in its current form dies

Will any of this happen as planned? Maybe, maybe not. But even Valve is preparing for this possibility.

Quoting: GuestThe problem with this "game" is there is no goal. So nothing to do really.
What? Shoo, shoo. Away, fiend!

Some early first impressions of Google Stadia played on Linux

Quoting: michaldybczakHow did they make Destiny 2 run if protondb shows it as borked? Everyone says that Stadia is on Linux but it looks like there are only Linux servers. The game is somehow streamed from Windows or am I missing something?
The game is running as a native Linux build on the Stadia server, not via Proton.

A feature I would love to see, especially when they inevitably add colour-balancing features in, is the ability to reload the shaders on the fly. For people who want to fiddle with the settings in a running game until they are just right.

This would also open up the possibility to have a UI to tweak stuff.

They could just switch to a "Proton, but supported by us" type model, like with No Man's Sky. As in not a native port, but the devs still care to make sure it works.
