Hollow Knight: Silksong to get a free expansion, Hollow Knight getting a refresh upgrade

Too bad they already lost me with Silk Song. I think the game is too tedious, too difficult, far too... much of the few things I didn't like about Hollow Knight (and which is still a game I adore). But Silk Song, it leaves the impression of being designed to torture the player with far too many unnecessarily difficult or even unfair parts.

I do wonder how many people gave up on it (as I did) simply due to frustrating difficulty. Are we a minority or a majority? Not sure.
I did give up after a while, somewhere around the point with the "sea" of monsters and the other area with these beasts in cages (the sound kinda like dogs, maybe). These areas were just sooo annoying!

Also there were the pretty frustrating jumping sections where you need to use moving enemies *and* small balloons to get higher up.

I so much wanted to love the game, but there were just too many frustrations in it... I felt Team Cherry expanded the difficulty of the White Palace onto the whole game, and overall it wasn't a pleasant experience and it crossed the line into "unfair" territory for me.

Tbh, all in all, due to the high difficulty, I think Silk Song is my personal disappointment of this years' gaming.

Tbh, I don't really care anymore... Given the difficulty of Silk Song, I gave up near the end of act 1. The game may be as beautiful as it can be, but game-mechanics- and difficulty-wise I regard it as the disappointment of the year. The only way I would reconsider giving it a try would be one of those (numerous!) patches that make life considerably easier for players. But even then, there's still the often times tedious platforming. The game just doesn't feel like fun to me, contrary to Hollow Knight where I even enjoyed the White Palace.

I've looked at Collective Shout and I wonder who they f they think they are. So much for freedom of speech.

Are we at a point again where hysterical lunatics decide what people are allowed to play or watch or listen to? Maybe somebody should start a campaign against *them*...

For some reason, "Ambrosia Sky" reminds me of "Prey", going by the trailer. Which could be a good thing, as we'll never get a sequel to that game, unfortunately.

Lol, right. I believe it when I see it. The number of times of them promising a release, only to not deliver anything, must be some kind of record in itself.

Ubuntu 25.04 upgrades halted due to Kubuntu users getting a broken desktop

@Antonio Storcke

To say it politely, KDE is not ready for prime time. It is feature-bloated and full of half-baked features. Ubuntu is learning their lesson now. Fedora will learn their lesson later. Cosmic has done in mere months what KDE has tried and failed for 30 years to do.
To say it not so politely: Stop spreading bullshit. There are numerous people who like the feature-rich Plasma-desktop (including me), and most of its features are decidedly *not* half-baked. The transition to Plasma 6 was exceptionally smooth, in my experience. The general OS-Upgrades every half year have been rock-solid for me for many years now. Bugs like these are unfortunate, but Plasma isn't the first nor the last to experience something like that on occasion.

And please stop comparing companies with a clear vision (and no need to wait for decisions by numerous people, plus the ability to *pay* their employees to do work) with a community of mostly volunteers that usually don't get paid for their hard work. Doing so is either disingenuous or it shows that you have no clue what you're talking about.

Having said that, I did experience the bug, and for those who struggle with it: Just switch to a TTY and reinstall the plasma-desktop, but using apt, that problem was solved in a few minutes. After that, one can reboot, enter their password and go on installing the rest of the default apps via the GUI.

It's far from a catastrophe, as the system is still booting, just with Plasma removed.

From a visual standpoint I really don't like these Lego games and thus have never tried out any of them. Am I missing out on something or are they done for a younger audience?

Steam will now scale better with KDE and GNOME

Quoting: MrokiiI don't see any scaling, and I am on the latest beta. The font is just as small as it ever was, it's an abomination in 2023. Valves' "efforts" to make it usable on 4k-screens are just laughable.

I'm on Kubuntu 23.04, btw, with an AMD graphics card and its drivers.
Just force it yourself! I did, and and now I can finally see everything clearly on my 14" full HD laptop display!
How? I was able to in the past, but nowadays it seems theming isn't even possible anymore, and manually editing Steams' own html (or css?)-files doesn't work either as it seems, Steam is always re-downloading the original version, replacing the edited one.
Quit Steam completely, and run it from terminal:
steam -forcedesktopscaling 1.25
(You can replace 1.25 with your preferred value)
Thanks, interesting. I just found out that it's possible to set a gdk-scale factor in the .desktop-file. I'll see if I can use your suggested method there, too.
