Quoting: EKRboisadly my programming skills are outdated (VB4/5/6) and I never did learn to do "3d graphic stuffs" mostly just simple gui's.
Well, there's a lot of other things left to do [External Link], not just graphics. Figuring out file formats, finding out how the original game did things, stuff like that. But yeah, you will need to have some working programming (and C++) knowledge for that.

Quoting: commodore256So, Sven, you basically make algorithms that's compatible with the ones that Bioware used for asset containment and scripting.
I wouldn't put it that way, but essentially yes. I write code that can load the original data files and reproduce what the original EXE did.

It seems like only yesterday 32-bit was the defacto standard, with 64-bit being something you chose if you wanted to squeeze out a bit of extra performance at the cost of stability and support with certain applications
Yesterday? I upgraded to a full 64-bit system in 2007. And I never thought about not doing that, never thought about installing a 32-bit OS on my shiny new 64-bit hardware...

Quoting: EikeWith 975 games, I guess you're not out of stuff to play? ;o)
Truth. :)

Still, there are of course games I'd additionally like to have. Nothing absolutely vital though. Eh, there's always another time.:)

Quoting: SeredBaldur's Gate or Icewind Dale?
That really depends on what you value more: an interesting story and companions with personality, or a dungeon crawl with a personality-less party you created yourself?

Well, I'm broke, so I got a whole bag of nothing. :)

Natural Selection 2 Community Developers Need OpenGL Help

Well, it's probably a bug invoking Undefined Behaviour [External Link], like accessing invalid memory. Which might crash. Or it might not crash, if, for example, by chance the broken pointer points to memory the program controls. While unlikely, it might even do something weird, like give you full health, delete a file or eat your grandmother.

Monkey Island Creator Ron Gilbert Is Making A New Point-And-Click Adventure Game

Quoting: Segata SanshiroAnyone know why he left DF? Quite curious and wasn't aware that he had.
According to Wikipedia: [External Link]
Quoting: Ron Gilbert"I was telling him [Tim Schafer] about The Cave and he really liked it, so he said 'come to Double Fine and make it. It was really all about making that game."
Quoting: Segata SanshiroI'm kind of dubious as to why they need $375,000
Yeah, dunno. I'd like to see that "Design + Art + Coding" bit on the finance pie chart separated more, explained a bit more. Still, they're projecting to develop the game until June 2016, and living wages for over 1.5 years is not nothing.

And with the current backing rate, I have no doubt they'll hit the $370k.

Quoting: Segata SanshiroI'm seeing other adventure games with modern graphics and nice animation being made for less than half that
Right, and the devs are probably living quite poorly.
I have read the Unrest Kickstarter Postmortem [External Link] and read other similar stories of devs working day jobs while developing the kickstarted game in their free time, living with their parents, working from internet caffees, etc.

Daedalic Releases Goodbye Deponia On Linux
19 Nov 2014 at 12:21 am UTC

Oh, neat. I have the first one on Steam and saw it popping up as Linux-supported months ago. But there was no depot behind it. I.e. it installed 0 bytes. But that's fixed, I see. It now installs.

Not that I'm all too interested in playing it. I heard a lot of bad things about the story.

I am, however, quite interested in the DSA / Dark Eye games, mainly because I've been roleplaying in that system and setting for...8? 9? years now.

I'd also like to see A New Beginning working on GNU/Linux.

The Funding Crowd 39

A few more:

That Dragon, Cancer [External Link], an adventure game about a toddler's battle with cancer. Linux is only mentioned in one of the places that also mention Windows and Mac OS X, so I asked them on Twitter about the confusion. Apparently, GNU/Linux support is planned [External Link], but it seems the devs hadn't had much contact with GNU/Linux yet.

Late To The Party [External Link] a cold war espionage RPG set in a country of the former Soviet Union. From the makers of Unrest [External Link]. With $50k, the funding goal is a bit more ambitious than Unrest, because they want to pay themselves an actual living(-ish) wage this time.

Lovely Little Thieves [External Link], a horror/romance visual novel made in Ren'Py. Spearheaded by Hope Chapman, aka JesuOtaku [External Link], a video reviewer from the That Guy With the Glasses network.

[Clannad](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sekaiproject/clannad-official-english-release), or rather the English localization of that existing visual novel [External Link] by the Japanese company Key [External Link]. The translation is done by Sekai Project who already developed and/or published several games on Steam, among them Sunrider: First Arrival / Mask of Arcadius [External Link] and Rising Angels: Reborn [External Link]. NOTE: GNU/Linux support isn't yet promised. They've been (over-)funded pretty quickly, and are still running for 50 days, so they're currently asking what people want for stretch goals. GNU/Linux and Mac OS X support has been asked for quite a bit, and I find it likely to happen. Still, probably wise to not back it before anything has been announced.
