Outcast, A Real Classic Has Been Revamped, And Linux Is Planned

Outcast [External Link] is one of those famous "voxel" games, like Blade Runner [External Link]. Contrary to modern games, it doesn't use vertices and faces as its basic geometry, but voxels [External Link], basically 3d pixels.
Think legos. Each 1x1 block (or 1x1 part of a bigger block) would be 1 voxel. They're each a single color. And a lot of them create a figure, like those big figure in Legoland [External Link].
As such, the renderer in Outcast was completely software-based. It did not use OpenGL or DirectX or any other API for hardware-based rendering (because those all depend on vertices and faces).

On-topic: The Outcast HD Reboot Kickstarter campaign [External Link] failed earlier this year. Good to see they've still did it, sort of. But I wonder whether it's such a smart move: the failed campaign showed pretty clearly Outcast isn't such a huge nostalgia title after all...

Actually, I kinda partially agree with Teal.
While it does add some extra crap to handle, for most people it really shouldn't make a difference. If you're using an existing store-front, this is already handled for you. You won't have to do a thing. (And Patreon will also need to address this)
If you're selling goods yourself via a PayPal button on your own site, then yes, it will add extra bureaucracy, unfortunately. But depending on where you live, you probably already would have handled VAT for your own country, now you're just keep doing that using the MOSS. So it's not that much of a difference, hopefully.
One thing I heard, though, but haven't confirmed: some countries, the UK for example, had a VAT threshold (i.e. if you're not making X amount, you're completely VAT exempt) and now that threshold is gone?

Keep in mind that the private copying levy, which exists in many countries and yes, is quite high in France, is not an EU law. It's not centralized at all. It was introduced separately in every country, with the record and movie industries pushing governments to introduce them.
Also, legally, it's not a tax, it's a levy. The money is not given to the governments. The money is given to copyright agencies, private companies.
And yes, the USA have such a levy as well, but not for "computer peripherals", only blank media and "audio devices" that can record.
As you can see, this levy is not valid ammunition for anti-European / anti-EU sentiments.

Hmm, well, Patreon does the billing and administrative things. You probably don't even know where the people giving you money live, right?

In Germany, for example, this thing is called the "Kleine einzige Anmeldestelle" (KEA) and it's part of the Bundeszentralamt für Steuern.
EDIT: (*) Well, you don't have to, either. You could just do all the VAT crap for every EU member state yourself.

This basically means that any small developer who is too small to get onto a store that properly implements these rules will have to be VAT registered in the UKNot quite. You have to be registered (*) at one "Mini One Stop Shop" (MOSS), not necessarily the UK. Every EU member should have one, so if you're already living in the EU, you should probably register at your local MOSS.
