Interview with Keith Poole from Desura part 2!

Well, I understand his reasons for not doing the mod support, but I still hope that at some point they can get that working on Linux. That said, I am still interested in Desura and they responded to my question well. So well done Keith and Scott and of course well done Liam for the interview. ;)

Interesting, though I can not help but feel the music undersells it a bit. Just a suggestion, but in my experience an active music track helps any side-scroller. :)

Well, they seem to be serious, they now have a list of the games they will be selling at launch and a timer indicating when their service will open it's doors for good. I like that they seem to be big on making sure that they cater to as much as the major distributions as possible, even though I tend to prefer to keep my proprietary games separate from my package manager. Still, compared to the closed nature of the USC it is kind of refreshing.

Well, I remember reading an archived LinuxGames post from about five or six years ago where many people were complaining that there was basically nowhere but TuxGames to buy native gaming titles. That has thankfully been changed somewhat.

Looks to be a bit more fancy than Tux Games or Wupra, judging by this page:

Interview with Keith Poole from Desura Part 1

Yeah, but if it is like the Windows version, even if you purchased your version from a different source, I believe you can still use Desura with many titles to manage the install and use it to install and manage mods for it. So if they offer support for say Doom 3 or UT2004, even if they do not sell them, that would be quite a few interesting mods.

This is just the impression I got, but I know for a fact that you can do this with Doom 3 on Windows, so I assume it will be the same with the Linux version (or I at least hope). :D

Revenge of the Titans + other puppygames hits coming to USC

Fair enough, I actually quite like the new XFCE myself actually, except for the fact I have a deep hatred of Thunar, so whenever I use XFCE I always continue to use Nautilus as my file manager. Since I always have Gnome installed anyway it is no big deal.

I just posted my thoughts on the Gnome Shell on the FedoraForum if anyone is interested:

Or computer to computer presumably. Can the USC offer that?

Besides, I would hate to have to have an Ubuntu VM or something just because a game I want to play on my Fedora box is only available through the USC. What would be the point of me doing native gaming in the end if I have to mess with other systems anyway?

Here is a relevant quote from Alexander Zubov of Steel Storm fame on the matter:
The Linux market is very fragmented. USC is a good solution for Ubuntu market. However, while Ubuntu is one of the most popular Linux distributions, it doesn’t represent the whole market. Hopefully with Desura releasing their Linux client things will change and game developers will be able to cover most of the Linux market.

And it just seems more and more promising every time I think of it. :D

Sorry, it was my @#@!#$ modem again. Problem is you are not sure when it actually is able to post, so you have to keep telling it to post when it does. But it turns out it did post some of your previous tries, but just did not update. @&#%^!
