Quoting: slaapliedjeOoh, I have most of the Loki ports, but did not know they did some PPC ones.
You can download the PPC installers for them here:

Quoting: slaapliedjeHa, for me the topic of building a Retro Linux computer would be to put together an old PPC mac and install Debian :P
Well, my graphics card at least is about right for an old Mac.

Quoting: slaapliedjeFun fact, Heretic II also got a commercial port on the Amiga.
Yep, for Hyperion Entertainment making Linux and Mac ports was always a side hustle, with the Amiga being their one true love.

Last time I tried to install Heretic II on my modern Arch Linux system it worked fine in Software but would crash with OpenGL enabled. Not sure if Lutris includes a fix for that or not.

For these articles though I am always going to try to use the original installers first to be as period accurate as possible. Hence why I tracked down all the Serious Sam betas off icculus.org rather than using the LIFLG installer.

You can download the working Heretic II installer from here:

A review of the game by Matt Matthews for Linux Games is archived here:

And my launch command for Heretic II is as follows:
heretic2 +set gl_dynamic 0 +set cl_lights 0

At present I am going to be sticking to games that I have on disc rather than abandonware. Partly because I can show them off better and partly to stay clear of any legal questions.

The Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns demo was playable but felt a bit heavy when I tried it, but I will definitely give it another look if I can get hold of the disc.

Just discovered that the MobyGames page for XEvil has a lot of nice Linux screenshots:

As does The Ace of Penguins thanks to the same contributor:

Nice to know that I am not alone in doing all this.

Quoting: HamishYeah, sadly the Hyperion Entertainment ports are next to impossible to find on disc these days
There was a physical release by a porting company?
Indeed... I think I got mine through Linux Game Publishing, before they folded.
Tux Games is probably what you are thinking of, although it was run by the same people as Linux Game Publishing.

I really regret not being able to buy a few boxes from them before they closed shop.

Quoting: CalinouJudging by the article name, I thought it was going to be about the first-person shooter SiN. :P
Yeah, sadly the Hyperion Entertainment ports are next to impossible to find on disc these days. I did mention that I played the SiN demo on Red Hat Linux 9 earlier if you would recall.

Quoting: IvancilloOne of the first Linux games I played (on Slackware 3.0) circa 1997. My favorite version was 1.4. I didn't like too much the 2.X (nor the sound).
Ha! The tradition lives on.
