The Dark Descent of Frictional Games: Part Two
3 Nov 2014 at 1:15 am UTC

Quoting: Segata SanshiroCan't really say much for SOMA from what's out there at the moment. What I can say is that it really annoys me when people misuse names from books - in this case Soma, but I can't see any relation between the game and Brave New World other than the setting being the exact opposite.
When I heard the title I thought of Huxley as well, but I think it actually has more to do with the biological and Latin understanding of the word:

Quoting: Segata SanshiroNot sure about multi-monitor because (so I've heard) it's very hard to run well under Linux and not many games support it.
It is indeed variable - I use Zaphod Mode for my two screens specifically because of the fact it keeps games from interfering with them, but there are an increasing amount of people actually playing games on Linux with more than one head, although still probably not enough to truly justify adding it to the survey as of yet.

Nice work with the charts and everything Segata. :)

I am glad to see as many people using the FOSS drivers as there are, even if it only came to 18%.

Humble Indie Bundle 13 - Hits A Milestone As 100 Linux Ports Reached

Quoting: muntdefemsI've tried all the games in the bundle except for Amnesia: AMFP and almost all of them seemed to work fine
Well, I can of course say that technically AMFP runs well thanks to the great work of Frictional Games and Edward Rudd. No problems there.

Quoting: 5-Bits GamesAs promised, the people that chose to support us during the development / alpha stage, will receive both Desura and Steam keys ... That is something we have dealt with our publisher Bandai Namco from the beginning and we will give our supporters their Steam key. BUT please note that we WON'T provide Steam keys anymore now that the game has been released on both Stores: people will have to choose which of the DRM-free or Steam version they want to buy.

Not that it affects me of course, but don't you just love publishers? :S:

Makes me wish I did not bother getting AMFP separately last spring, especially since I did not really enjoy it.

But again, I should really save that bit of whining for my next article...

Civilization: Beyond Earth Mac And Linux Dev Update

Quoting: Segata SanshiroWhy not just develop directly with OpenGL? What are the benefits of DirectX today? In the long run, it just causes more work for the devs (or third parties like Aspyr). Hopefully we'll be rid of it soon so we can have true multi-platform development, but until then Microsoft's "standards" will just be a hurdle towards progress, like IE was for web developers for many years.
Well, posting about that here is very much preaching to the converted I am afraid, when it is Firaxis and the like that really needs to get the message there.

3D Realms Aiming to Release Anthology Collection for Linux
27 Oct 2014 at 2:31 am UTC

Quoting: CybolicWell, it's nitpicking really, but there was also an official boxed release of Quake for Linux.
Just to ensure I am not outdone in terms of nitpickery, I did technically say "at that time" in my previous statement in order to properly delineate this fact. The only official id Software products ever released for Linux were the boxed versions of Quake: The Offering and Quake II: Colossus put out by Macmillan Digital Publishing and the Quake III Arena collectors edition tin put out by Loki Software, as well as Quake Live until Zenimax finally canned the Linux and Mac versions of that.

Three Argentine Kickstarter Projects Worth Checking Out, Plus Developer Comments on Linux

Quoting: Segata SanshiroFrom a development point of view, it makes sense to start things before you've finished others so that there aren't idle hands. I can't really comment on Asylum in particular though because I never followed the project until recently.
I am aware of that possibility, but considering how many deadlines they have slipped and how many other ventures they have been playing with during all of this, it does come across as showing a lack of focus, at least from the outside. I also can not help but feel it to be bad form to ask the public for even more money when you have yet to deliver on what you had already promised before.
